It’s official. The first Easter Egg of the Obama administration is green. Also orange, blue and rose.

But mostly green. As the White House announced today, the 2009 egg uses 31% less paperboard than the 2008 designs, eliminates the need for the paper shred/filler, features an egg-shaped dye cut instead of a cellophane window and uses renewable, vegetable oil-based inks.

In case that’s too subtle for the thousands of kids expected to descend on the White House lawn Monday, the White House also announced that this year’s Easter egg roll, which dates to 1878, builds on the theme of ‘Let’s Go Play’ to ‘educate children on the importance of living a healthy and active lifestyle.’ There’ll be sports, cooking classes, live musical performances, storytelling and, of course, the traditional Easter egg roll.

Tickets are no longer available -- they were scarfed up online weeks ago, and the Obamas made sure that gay families were included in the mix -- but anyone who wants to buy a White House Easter Egg can still grab one from the National Parks Foundation.
