With Ohio called for Barack Obama, the race may be over

November 4, 2008 |  6:31 pm

Until minutes ago, all that had happened in the presidential race was that each side had held serve.

Now, with all of the networks calling Ohio for Barack Obama, the contest may have been decided.

As The Ticket noted previously, Obama's projected win earlier in Pennsylvania seemed to assure he would hold the 252 electoral votes that the Democratic presidential ticket won in 2004.

Thus, the 20 electoral votes from Ohio -- the state that assured President Bush's reelection in 2004 -- would put him past the 270 mark needed to claim the White House.

way to go OHIO!!!

Can it really be called when less than a third of the votes have been counted?

Al Gore & John Kerry are now avenged.

God bless America, I hope Obama can turn this mess around. Let's all now unity behind him

I guess we (Ohio) did something good for once!

1) No it can't be "called" with only 33% of the vote counted, if that. However, the data available is sufficient to make sure that no major trends were missed and the projections are very likely accurate. Don't expect a McCain concession speech until late tonight or tomorrow morning.

2) Clearly, the right-wingers are not going to rally behind Obama. The best we can hope for is that the Republicans will eventually swing center in an effort to retake their losses, that the right-wingers crawl into their holes and grumble away, and that the secret service does its job flawlessly.

California, washington, oregon, and hawaii will all go obama.. that will put him over 270 and the win (even if he loses every other battleground state that has not been called yet!!)

Watching the election results, I can't help but notice how everything is about Obama's skin color and nothing more. I now wish I had voted for McCain and I sincerely apologize for my ignorance. I thought he'd bring unity - not division. I was wrong. The division is already happening. God help us.
