Obama praises environmental work of GOP governors, including Schwarzenegger

Wow, has Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger bounced back quickly from the devastation of his good friend John McCain losing the presidential election to this Democrat Barack Obama fellow. (See video below.)

Today at a climate-change summit he's sponsoring at the Beverly Hilton, where the climate never changes, California's GOP chief executive, who's tangled with the nation's GOP chief executive over environmental issues, sounded downright giddy over the impending coronation of Obama into the White House.

"I'm excited to report," Schwarzenegger told the session, "that in January all of this will change, because now there is a new administration coming in."

Schwarzenegger played a videotaped greeting from the president-elect and said the two men were "in sync." The Ticket has the video greeting below, showing Obama praising several governors' environmental work, including the Republicans heading up California and Florida.

Our colleague Michael Rothfield has a full story over on L.A. Now.

I believe that Barach should select Bill to tackle the global warming intiative. He would be the ideal person to lead the hot air expedition.

If Obama is serious about worming and wants to reduce CO2 emissions he should add a carbon tax to every thing that uses fossil fuel (gasoline, diesel, coal and anything that emitts CO2 when used) equalant to $.50 a gallon and increase it every six monthes. That would stop the increase use in these forms of energy and incurage alternate forms. But fuel, oil, from plants that is burned and produces CO2 would also have to have the same tax on it. A quota on all improted crude oil, refined paroducts, LNG or any other form of CO2 producing imports should be imposed and lowered each year untill it if totaly phased out. If the does these things then we will know that he is serious.

We seriously need to get on with the business of becoming energy independent. While we are doing the happy dance around the pumps with the lower prices OPEC is planning yet more production cuts and will not quit until they achieve their desired price per barrel. The record high prices this past year have done serious damage to our economy and society. WE must move forward with energy independence. We have the knowledge, we have the technology, what America lacks is a plan. Jeff Wilson has a new book out that is beyond awesome. The Manhattan Project of 2009 Energy Independence NOW. He walks you through every aspect of oil, what it is used for besides gas, our depletion of it. The worlds increased need ie 3rd world countries becoming more modernized and consuming more. He explains EVERY alternative energy source and what role they can play to replace oil. His research is backed up with hard data and even includes a time frame and proposed legislative agendas to wean America off oil.

Andrew MalcolmAndrew Malcolm's immigrant parents repeatedly stressed the importance of active participation in a democracy. Early lessons included learning the alphabetical list of states by watching televised roll calls of national political conventions. That childhood exposure led to a lifelong fascination with politics, including 40-plus years of covering them and a brief stint practicing them as press secretary to Laura Bush in 1999-2000. A veteran foreign and national correspondent, Malcolm served on the Times Editorial Board and was a Pulitzer finalist in 2004. He is the author of 10 nonfiction books and father of four.
