Obama vows to 'throw my weight around' for college football playoffs

November 24, 2008 |  9:28 am

Not that the president-elect's college sports teams are any great shakes -- Columbia and Harvard.  But the nation's college football fans appear to have a sympathetic friend in Barack Obama.

(Another difference with the baseball administration of George W. Bush.)

Nevermind the nation's economic troubles.  Or the transitory automobile industry.  We're talking important stuff here.

Obama's one of those fans who believes in a three-round playoff system to determine each year's collegiate football champion. Trim back the regular season a little, if necessary.  (Good luck cutting out some of those traditional rivalries.)

And his seems to be more than a casual commitment. (See video below.)

"I'm gonna throw my weight around on this," Obama promises. "I think it's the right thing to do."

Our blogger colleague Adam Rose has the full BCS story over on All Things Trojan right now.

Why doesn't he throw his weight around to get
college payers who perform in televised games paid?
Why should they perform for no money when everyone else makes some. See my article in Counterpunch. Steve Conn
