Barack Obama, 44th president of the United States

November 4, 2008 |  8:00 pm

(UPDATE: Complete text of Pres.-elect Barack Obama's acceptance speech is available here.)

As expected, the moment the polls closed in California, Oregon and Washington state, network projections declared that Barack Obama would win all three.

And with those three, based on such calls, the senator from Illinois passed the 270-electoral-vote mark needed to win the presidency.

Not only will he be the nation's first biracial president, he also will be the first native of Hawaii to move into the White House.

He is the first sitting senator to claim the ultimate political prize since John Kennedy in 1960 (as would have been John McCain).

There is one trend that continues -- Obama will be the fourth straight president with an Ivy League educational pedigree.

Bout time!

OH MY GOD. Tell me something that isn't so surprising.

At least we're rid of Bush.

History was made today, what a interesting time for everyone. I am really excited to be a part of this.

I never thought I would live to see the day when the first African American president would be elected. Now I only have to say:
WAY TO GO OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and that's great

Thank you for a change long awaited and needed.

I can't remember the last time I was this happy!

God bless Barack Hussein Obama II and God bless the United States of America!

The audacity of hope is out there for all peoples, though it had been tough to really believe, now we all know it is true. Lets get together as a nation and regain our stature both domestically and internationally.

I am glad to hear that there have not been as many issues on election day as in other recent elections, but I am saddened by the results. To know that our great country has elected someone to be president who has no history of bipartisanship or anything to show that he has been challenged indicates that Barack Obama simply did what he was told to do. Not a great quality in our new president.

I suppose I will just be quiet for a while, and hope he does something great!

Well, I think now is a great time to start looking for that minimum wage job. I will no long be able to afford being middle class!

The only hope is that this do nothing senator will be a do nothing president. :-)

Thank the Goddess, the Gods and any other Powers that Be!!! Life will begin anew...

And not to mention Council of Foreign Relations member, just like McCain.

its the beginning of the end for the united states.

U.S. citizens now have fresh opportunities to
rebuild their lives, families, friendships, communities
and country. Sue

Well, the fanatical obamamedia, and the obama party have successfully purchased the presidential prize, with there terrorist friends and mindless masses of Obama kool-Aid drinkers close in tow. For the next four years the American princibles on which this country stands will be torn down and the building blocks for socialism will be laid. I certainly hope all of you mindless lemmings who voted for obama are ready to face the nightmare which the country is about to face.

We're happy too. Booyah (what does that mean?)

Be careful what you ask for! You might get it!

History will be the judge and jury.

Un bonjour de France (Hello from France ;-) )

It's a speciel day... I hope Obama respect more the rest of the world that the republicans and their "New Amercican Century". A century ?... eight years in fact...

We are in big trouble as a country. It's a sad day in US history when a man like Obama can get elected.

FINALLY!!

First I salute Obama for his victory. I appreciate his determination and finally I hope for Global Peace and Economic stability from Obama's Presidency.

The day has finally come. If Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King JR. was alive today, he would say his dream has finally come true. That we all can become one nation

This is indeed a sad day for the United States of America. The American people have been sold a bill of goods that is wrapped in fallacy and what's worse, is that the majority of Americans bought it, lock, stock and barrel. There's only one thing left for me to do… make sure I've got enough ammo to protect myself when they come to take away all my Constitutional rights. This will no longer be the land of the free because now the government is going to decide what's best for me and you.

I did not vote for Obama, but congratulations to all of you who did. May God be with him.

The blog did it first. You are on the top of the Google News and the first to announce Obama's victory.

The blog is winning over conventional news sources for good or bad. Yes, it is based on network projections and with a spelling error in the lead.
