Amazon.com listing had Barack Obama Halloween mask under 'terrorist'
You know that argument the John McCain-Sarah Palin campaign has been relentlessly making that Barack Obama "pals" around with terrorists such as '60s ex-radical William Ayers?
And they say this reflects on his poor judgment becaus
e of other associates such as Rev. Jeremiah Wright and newly-convicted Tony Rezko?
And worried Obama PR folks jump right on the e-mail whenever Obama and Ayers and the word "friend" appear together anywhere, even though Chicago Mayor Richard Daley and Obama chief strategist David Axelrod have called them friends or friendly.
Anyway, a listing on Amazon.com, one of the largest and most successful online merchandisers in the world, seemed to come down even beyond the Republicans' side -- for a while anyway. With Halloween just days away, they're making a bundle off a $49.95 Barack Obama mask.
Which was displayed on the "terrorist costume" page.
You read that right!
(UPDATE: Amazon's listing seems to have caught itself and deleted the Obama mask from the terrorist page. However, before that happened, The Ticket captured a photo. See below.)
Click on the Read more line below and see the online display....
...picture for yourself. There's the Democrats' presidential candidate smiling right under the headline "Terrorist Costume."
For comparison purposes, a Hillary Clinton mask is going for only $6.95 (down from $12.99). Even with her 18 million votes. The Sarah Palin mask, however, is going for $25 (Deluxe versions cost 98 cents more, but it's eligible for free shipping).
The Joe Biden T-shirts and life-size cutouts (sorry, no mask) have been marked down. The John McCain page offers paper masks for 99 cents and a rubber one for $12.90 (marked down from $16.99).
While the "Sexy McCain Trophy Perfect Wife Halloween Costume" goes for only $14.94 (no doubt because there's really not that much to it).
The Obama terrorist page listed related searches as "arab costume, terrorist."

Here's the Deluxe version of the Barack Obama mask available on Amazon.com ($19.99). Pretty scary, allright:

Amazon, you just lost another customer. But if you're going to accuse candidates of being terrorists in this not-so-subtle way, will you be putting Palin's mask on the "terrorist" page, or maybe create a "traitors" page for her? You know, she HAS given multiple supportive speeches to the traitorous Alaska Indepence Party AND her husband was a member for many years until just a few years ago (around the time she started achieving state-wide offices; hmmmm). McCain and Palin palling around with - and MARRIED TO - traitors. Nice.

If its that easy to unnerve the leftists, imagine how a leftist in power will react in a real emergency! LOL Now THAT'S scary!!!

Thank You Amazon, I've never shopped with you before but I will from now on!!
Reading some of these comments has me laughing so hard my sides hurt.

Thank you to those who have pointed out how Amazon's tagging system works. That is very informative and the writer of the LA Times article should have mentioned that VERY important fact.

This is awful but don't blame Amazon. These masks were sold via the Amazon Marketplace, where individuals can sell items through the web site. I've done it myself. I've sold used books using the Amazon web site.
It is the Marketplace sellers who add those tags to the items they are selling, not Amazon. These masks were not offered for sale by Amazon.com.
Lusoman is right (see above).

Last time I buy anything from Amazon, until they issue a formal apology.
Posted by: lm | October 27, 2008 at 10:45 AM
OUTSTANDING!! GOOD JOB TO THE VENDOR AND AMAZON..I THINK I WILL BUY EVEN MORE FROM AMAZON NOW!!! AT LEAST SOME AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE PAYING ATTENTION!!
Posted by: recon11 | October 27, 2008 at 10:53 AM
I will not buy anything at the Amazon.Com in my life again since they could care less about the feelings of the liberal democrats. This is a disgusting display of typical Republicans Smear Campaign, even if they retract this BS they have definately lost me as a customer.

This is just uncalled for. No matter whom you are voting for, this is a childish low blow, and it is a slim to none chance that it was an accident. There is a process as with everything else. Editing and what not before hitting the website. This is a sad day for Americans. We have to stoop this low now? Just another way we Americans show our lack of stability to other countries. Ignorance is not always bliss, and unfortunately people like AMAZON give us a bad rep. Thanks.

People like the poster, Louise Mandeal are every bit as dangerous as any "terrorist". Their ignorance and hatred is what spawns the same from the other side. Then we, draped in a flag and using God as our excuse, wreak death from the skies on civilians all over the world. Jesus cannot return soon enough...

Excellent! At least somebody got it right. I'll shop more at Amazon now that I know they've apparently got their collective heads on straight.
Posted by: Rob | October 27, 2008 at 11:09 AM
I will continue to shop Amazon as will a bunch of family and friends. Thanks Amazon!!! You may have lost a few but you've gained many for your honesty.

I know the people who aren't bright enough to realizing the way Amazon tagging works aren't going to have read any of the previous comments explaining why this isn't Amazon's fault- and thus, they won't read this, either- but PEOPLE GET YOUR HEADS OUT OF YOUR A***S. Any random teenage in Omaha could have tagged it that way, and your ridiculous screams about how you'll 'never shop Amazon again' highlight only your ignorance about the site itself and the way modern, corporate commerce works. There is no proprietor who makes all of the decisions, and that you can hurt with your 'boycott.'

That is a very bad marketing decision. Amazon lost another customer (me).

Do you, Amazon.com., think your business is going to grow by making political insults. I am very much offended by the way you offended Obama. You don't have to worry about me ordering anything else from Amazon.com.

Haven't anyone thought.. this might not be a real amazon web site? I am not an amazon.com fan, but look at the screenshot of the site. looks like it was made to look like a joke.. too bad it wasn't good at all, is it?
Posted by: Anonymous User | October 27, 2008 at 11:22 AM
hope things are going so well for Amazon that they can aford to lose a customer (like me) with this polarizing and distructive meat-head attitude. I'd like an apology from Amazon and the techie retard fired.
Posted by: gabemejia | October 27, 2008 at 02:11 AM
i like the person that said THEY want an apology and the techy fired. this would be the first person jumping up and down complaining about someone judging THEM. i think it would be exceeding funny if said "techy" was black...er sorry...african american. wonder if they would still stand by them getting fired. and while we're at it, it take offense to the techy being called a retard. that sounds like discrimination against people who are mentally challenged. i think you should "apologize" to yourself.

Get over it, it's not Amazons fault, just the way there system works... Where is your sense of humor??
And Amazon is a great site, why so quick to bash it for a mistake, gave me a good laugh!
Posted by: katherine A | October 27, 2008 at 11:31 AM
Whether or not Amazon's customers put these masks under "terrorists" it is ultimately Amazon's place to fix it and apologize , as it is their web site....I will not be shopping on this site again as well unless amazon takes some action.
Posted by: Debra | October 27, 2008 at 11:35 AM
I need a personal and public apology from Amazon before I order anything else.
Posted by: DrElgin | October 27, 2008 at 11:35 AM
NO MORE AMAZON FOR ME !
Posted by: SANDEE | October 27, 2008 at 11:45 AM
this is absolutely ridiculous...Someone's needs to sue Amazon for this non-sense. how could someone talk an individual to linking his halloween mask to terriost..Always remember that GOD don't like ugly..i never shopped there so it wouldn't affect me; however, the thought of them doing that just gets me so angry.I am about to call those @ssholes and give them my two cents on this Shhiittt! ON WAY, NO HOW, NO JOHN MCCAIN! (We are looking forward to a Obama win in November 4th)

Goodbye Amazon.com!

I am simply appauled at some of you ignorant white folk. When we choose a church it is for the spiritual aspect of it. Every pastor has said something that some in the congregation may not agree with. Many white and black pastors say things that are not biblical about the world in which we live. If you look at the history in america we are defined by what you think and who sells or gives our information away to these people most of you white folk. I have had enough of this mess. you people need to grow up and know that this is not the old days where most blacks sat by and let this kind of stupidty go on from white america. this is a new day. so wake up and know that yes Barock H. Obama will be the next president of the united states of america.

Amazon.com might not have been the one responsible for putting the tag there but they should correct the problem ,beings it is there site they are ultimately responsible for what happens on it. I believe they should hold those who have tagged this Item as terroist responsible and there should be a reprecussion for there actions. Amazon.com is also responsible beacuse, for exampe if someone who comes to my house, or rides in my car brings drugs even without my knowlegde and they get found, as the home owner or vehicle owner ,I would be held responsible for what was found on /in my property. Thus Amazon.com does have a responsibility in this matter even if it was tagged by someone else, because it is there store front & they are ultimately responsible for what goes on in it. I do think that they as a company should apologise, it is only a good business practice, and also make sure that it is taken care of , so as not to happen again.
