Barack Obama's campaign goes prime time
Barack Obama's campaign has purchased a half-hour of prime airtime on CBS, Obama spokesman Jen Psaki confirms. The campaign plans to air a special on CBS at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29 -- less than one week before election day.
Psaki would not confirm whether the campaign plans to buy slots on other networks. According to an article in the Hollywood Reporter, the trade industry publication that broke the news, the campaign is in talks to also buy time on NBC and Fox.
The campaign's move is unusual, but not unprecedented. Right before the 1992 presidential election, Independent candidate Ross Perot's aired a series of 30-minute campaign ads on prime-time TV. More than 16.5 million people tuned in to watch the Republican billionaire's broadcast, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
UPDATE: The Obama campaign confirms that it has also bought a chunk of time on NBC and Fox (although the campaign ad won't air on Fox if there is a World Series game that night).

BJ, did you actually just type that?
If Obama stole the election from Hillary, why on earth would she be campaigning for him now? The logic just doesn't check out. We need someone with new ideas and a new way of doing business, and most of all, someone with a completely different perspective. That's Obama. You're free to believe the lies and the propaganda being fed to you, but you'll be much better off looking at all of the facts and knowing the truth.

Grasping at straws BJ - Obama is the better candidate, that's why we have to suffer through all these negative attacks.

It's nice to finally see the conservatives and far right clan in their deaththrows... what about AYERS... and and... ACORN, and... and. um, REV. WRIGHT!!
I'm sorry BJ - guilt by association is McCarthyism... and we saw how far that got us.
Why not focus on what voters want to hear about, instead of forcing some conspiracy theories down their throats. This isn't 00' or 04'
Posted by: JC | October 09, 2008 at 04:15 PM
And McCain and Palin intend to lie, cheat and steal their way into the White House!
Posted by: Jonathan | October 09, 2008 at 04:16 PM
ACORN is a non-issue. Here, I'll make it easy for anyone who wants to know "the truth." This is so stupid, just another desperate grasp by a flailing candidate and his henchmen: http://fightthesmears.com/articles/20/acornrumor?source=sem-pm-fts-ac-search-us&gclid=CNukv5Sjm5YCFRsRagodfBNP6A

To BJ and "my fellow prisoners": Mr. Obama doesn't have to "steal" the election. The McCain campaign is giving it away.

BJ, get over it Clinton lost fair and square, and the investigation was ended because, "insufficient evidence"....so stop Reaching.. and the investigation was un related to Obama/clinton race
Posted by: RB | October 09, 2008 at 04:18 PM
The investigation against ACORN is a sham, part of some serious voter suppression the Repub's are trying to perpetuate. The investigation is into whether certain voter registration forms they collected and submitted were fraudulent. But they have done everything above board, and in fact flagged as suspicious any registrations they were not sure about when they submitted those registrations to the state. There is documentation to back it all up. ACORN has to pass on the voter registrations, but they very diligently flagged any and all that seemed suspicious and notified the authorities. In fact, it wasn't even until they followed up with the state that anyone even bothered to look into it. No scandal here, not unless you consider the repub effort to engage in voter suppression (again) to be a scandal...

What kind of education President would Obama be? I think that the radical education groups he gave grants to when he ran the CAC gives us a hint. In addition, what kind of groups would Obama's mandatory national service program for college students benefit? Finally, Obama sued Citibank under the CRA that forced bad loans. It's not Obama's associations that bother me; it is his participation
Posted by: June | October 09, 2008 at 04:19 PM
Some Obama supporters have states that almost all of Obama's campaign money is coming from the "commond folks". B---s---!!! What foreign countries and foreign organizations are funding his campaign and how are the Obama people able to hid this fact? I'll never believe he does not have backers from the start of his campaign for the Senate who should not contribution to our political candidates. Obama is a crook, a liar and a communist.

and you can cite proof of your allegations.. where exactly?
Posted by: mr roberts | October 09, 2008 at 04:19 PM
He will need more then an hour to dispel the republican lie machine. This has got to be a low point for a man that was a veteran. As a military man myself I am disgusted at his conduct. The lies race bating behavior is horrible.
I watched Bush do this to Kerry but he was adishonored soldier anyway, this is horrible. For the second time in my life I have come face to face with a man that I can't call my brother in arms. Kerry and you are in the same catagory with one differance, Kerry was a disgraceful young officer. You are a war hero reduced to mudslinging. I had my absentee ballot ready to put in the mail. I have chosen to request a new one, I will be switching my vote to Obama.

Sorry BJ, the October Surprise is that the economy is in the tank and McCain due to his closer association to Bush is taking the blame. No one with a brain cares about Acorn or Ayers or Keating or Troopergate. Let Fox News fart around with these distractions. The only real question is who's policies are better for the country right now. Answer: Not McCains who from the two deabtes has told me that he not only follow up Bush's failed policies but plunge us into even worse trouble. Palin has not helped his campaign either for alot of voters, especially independents like myself, and has essentially been a cancer for the GOP. They should send her back to Alaska and soon. Wake up. Common sense and reason has to prevail here not bs smear tactics of a dying campaign. If McCain had anything constructive to add to the debate he would be doing so now, not calling Obama, Hussein or talking about Bill Ayers who I should add was on a board, Annenberg, with Obama put together by a Republican and supporter of Reagan.

Dear BJ,
The October surprise has arrived. McSame will lose the election by at least 5% ! The day Obama wins, you will have to look yourself in the mirror and realize that your way of thinking is now the minority.
Peace & Love

It's really fascinating, watching the Obama-haters going berserk. I realize they see their version of a perfect world slipping away because of this uppity Black man. But frankly the rest of us have had enough of their "conservative" I've-got-mine-so-screw-you mentality. They can go ahead and think up all the wacky, right wing-nut conspiracies they want. Either way, their time is up. There is no way we'd trust those clowns with another four years!
Right wing wackos; meet your new President! Barack Obama.

Am so disappointed in the republican tactic of exaggerations and fear and hate mongering. It does work, however, and it can be expected to work again. Palin supporters and the evangelical radicals remind me of Islamic extremists in their fury and angry posturing. The tendency towards violence in their monolithic crowds also brings to mind the third reich.
Is it really so impossible to consider losing gracefully?
Posted by: rjbunny | October 09, 2008 at 04:23 PM
How interesting that BJ thinks Obama is buying the campaign. Is he not able to make a decision on which way to vote on his own? Will Obama's purchase force him to vote democratic?
Not only that, if you want to talk 'steal', let's chat about the Florida elections. All okay if it's your team, eh? That's pretty shallow, BJ.
I suggest making use of your first amendment rights and buying your own tv spot to rebut Obama. I won't watch it, but then... that's my right.
Good luck in running your own life.

Palin is a Texas Post Turtle -
Let me explain-
When you drive along a road in Texas you will occasionally see a turtle balanced on top of a fence post. It doesn't know hot it got there, it doesn't know what to do there, and it doesn't know how to get down ....thats Palin!
Posted by: Texasoilman | October 09, 2008 at 04:25 PM
BJ,
HA! The Republicans are the ones trying to steal this election. Haven't you read about the federal court case they just started against the State of Ohio? They are trying to get newly registered Democrats kicked off the roles. Lovely bunch of cut throats that Rove bunch. Let's just trample all over the democratic foundations of our country! Boy, that sure is country first!

Good, I hope they are informative and enlightening. Something provocative and intelligent would be a welcomed change. It is really getting hard to stand the negative attacks and character assasination attempts. OOPS, too bad we are so liberal we don't have a TV! Guess we can always hike to the neighbors house, 2 miles away.

STEAL an election? Nope, that's a GOP move (see 2000). Unfortunately, some Americans need to be beat over the head with the facts. If that means buying 30 mins of network time, great. The GOP has been screwing us for 8 years. It has to stop.
