Barack Obama's campaign goes prime time
Barack Obama's campaign has purchased a half-hour of prime airtime on CBS, Obama spokesman Jen Psaki confirms. The campaign plans to air a special on CBS at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29 -- less than one week before election day.
Psaki would not confirm whether the campaign plans to buy slots on other networks. According to an article in the Hollywood Reporter, the trade industry publication that broke the news, the campaign is in talks to also buy time on NBC and Fox.
The campaign's move is unusual, but not unprecedented. Right before the 1992 presidential election, Independent candidate Ross Perot's aired a series of 30-minute campaign ads on prime-time TV. More than 16.5 million people tuned in to watch the Republican billionaire's broadcast, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
UPDATE: The Obama campaign confirms that it has also bought a chunk of time on NBC and Fox (although the campaign ad won't air on Fox if there is a World Series game that night).

Obama truly intends to BUY or steal this election!
Nevermind, the OCTOBER SURPRISE has arrived... ACORN is being investigated by Federal authorities! When the connection between OBAMA and ACORN is revealed, it will show voter fraud being perpetrated by the Obama campaign not only in this election, but also in the primary! He DID STEAL the nomination away from Hillary!
Posted by: BJ | October 09, 2008 at 03:37 PM
This is a chance for the American people to get to truly know the candidate. Perhaps John McCain could put aside partisan politics and smear campaigns long enough to present his views in such a format too.
Posted by: Mary Bagwell | October 09, 2008 at 03:55 PM
BJ, are you serious? A few people who worked for ACORN have been under investigation for a while now. It's hardly a surprise - it's not even news. Furthermore, Obama never worked for ACORN anyway. And really, it there's an October surprise, it's the economy going down the crapper. Uh-oh! How do you reason Obama stole the nomination from Hillary? She won less delegates than he did. It's not like he snuck up to the ballot box, crossed out "H. Clinton", and replaced it with "B. Obama". Get real.

It seems I have the honor of being the first positive commenter. That being said I would like to wish Obama a safe and honest election season. I would also like to offer the Republics this small fact. After Obama wins the election and becomes our next president you need not worry, because you all will be fine. Please now, join us on what the world calls a jump to the politics of love and hope. Farewell

Hope they splash it all over the place that this is a paid political announcement and should in no way be interperted as factual or news based.
Posted by: cpk | October 09, 2008 at 03:59 PM
wow whoever was saying that Obama is committing/committed voter fraud is a complete idiot! Have you not seen the massive amount of support Obama has? Obama is the best chance we have to save our country.
Posted by: Jessica | October 09, 2008 at 04:00 PM
BJ
Stole the election from Hilary? Come on!! Obama worked with ACORN years ago. He would not condone voter fraud if that is in fact what is going on. He doesn't need those kind of tactics to win and has yet to display them
You seem quick to try to paint blame ...
Posted by: Rick | October 09, 2008 at 04:01 PM
I think a half hour of serious policy discussion would be very helpful from both candidates. Perhaps John McCain could put aside his negative campaigning and smear tactics long enough to follow suit. We need to know as much as possible about both candidates without the distractions from the issues.

More Reruns. Does Barak Obama think he is Bill Cosby?
Posted by: Peter Parmelee Jr | October 09, 2008 at 04:01 PM
BJ..."OBAMA" stole the election from Hillary? Even the most angry Hillary supporters say it was the DNC. How can anyone pay you any attention when you mix exaggerations and facts so carelessly. Obviously you're not interested in exploring the truth, rather than whatever promotes your interests. You're acting like a mindless beast.
Posted by: silus | October 09, 2008 at 04:01 PM
maybe they will use the time to clear the air of all the personal attacks that will keep coming the next few weeks as the mccain campaign shows its true character.

BJ wrote, "Obama truly intends to BUY or steal this election!"

You're a fool. He's buying this election? If that's the case, it's better than lying to win this election. As for your other alegation, it's not even worth the time to comment. I'll say this though, you support McCain, who chose a separatist as his running mate. Remember, guilty by association!
Posted by: Jack | October 09, 2008 at 04:02 PM
I know you can't be serious BJ. First of all, ACORN helps register voters, they do not place votes or even recommend candidates. Secondly, they are a nonprofit with many good people who I know, but have had a few bad eggs, just as with any other large group. Thirdly, you can't be a serious presidential candidate without having connections all over the place.
Lastly, everybody knows elections are bought by the highest bidder (in a legal fashion), so that's not news.

I, for one, am excited to see what will hopefully be an opportunity for Obama to actually talk to us and outline some of his ideas, without the irritation of McCain standing right there trying to distract us with his smirking and his criticizing/condescending attitude.
Posted by: Let him talk, man! | October 09, 2008 at 04:03 PM
All the GOP can do is attack, divide, and hate. Where is their plan for America? There is no plan, because they don't care about you or me. Desperate Republicans are a sad sight indeed.
Posted by: Al in SoCal | October 09, 2008 at 04:03 PM
BJ, please remember that SPECULATING ON THINGS is what got us into this financial crisis! Unless you have facts to back up your assertion that Obama "stole" the primary, I'd advise keeping your mouth shut. And get over it - Hilllary lost. I was one of millions who couldn't stand her since the 90s, when she set aside her spine and dignity by staying with Bill to pursue her (almost) unstoppable ambition to the Presidency, and I've been behind Obama since he announced his candidacy because he's always struck me as a smart, steady, dignified, perceptive leader.

BJ. Do some research on the Keating 5 and tell me who's had their hand in the cookie jar.

Acorn is nothing compared to the caging, absentee ballot shenanigans, and the purging of people who underwent home foreclosures -- all tactics being used by republicans (to name just a few).
This is brilliance by Obama. Talk straight to the American people!
Cut through the distractions and Ayers crap.
It's a great way to start his first term..
Posted by: WayneW | October 09, 2008 at 04:06 PM
Bj, quit your whining. It's about the difference in party values, not Hillary vs Obama. The politics being employed by McCain right now are nothing short of disgusting. Whatever integrity he had is gone...he sold his soul. Republicans truly are the biggest hypocrites.
Posted by: joe six pack | October 09, 2008 at 04:07 PM
With all the racism and lies they are throwing at Obama, he has no choice but to tell his truth and story to the American people directly. We are with you Barack.
Posted by: Armanjava | October 09, 2008 at 04:07 PM
oh my. Bet mccain and crowd are terrified. and they should be. they have finally come up against a man they cannot beat down---even with smears, klan-type rallies and total evil.
Mccain has shown incredible cowardice to this country. He is not fit to serve, even as a senator at this point.
he rants on about ayers even while his entire party is burning down. He just sits there, unable to talk about the issues that are killing our nation. for him, it is a game of power. For Obama, it is a better future.
So rave on, mcinsane and followers. While you live in the past and focus on your navel with ayres and whatever else, we're leaving you in the dust. You arrogant old man with nothing to offer but fear and hate.
Posted by: sal | October 09, 2008 at 04:08 PM
I wish all you panic stricken republicans would stop playing character assassination with every detail you can find or connect to Barack Obama.
The truth is this is smoke and mirrors to distract people from the real issues and furthermore as person who voted for the republicans before I have to tell you that I am disappointed this is all McCain/Palin has to offer this country.
Rather than unite us you would first divide us - bad strategy McCain. It shows a lack of leadership and that country is not first when you seek to label other law abiding respectable people, Barack Obama is a Senator of the United State and deserves respect, not to called un-American and terrorist when he is no such thing. This divide and conquer strategy is weak, McCain/Palin ticket is too weak and too un-American to be my leaders. In terms of leadership at a time when our country is facing its most challenging time, they have chosen the very low and old road. So much for change, so much for maverick. Sorry McCain/Palin, I do not want to buy or walk or drive on your bridge to nowhere. Thanks, but no thanks!
After months I have decide and you helped me - Obama/Biden will get my vote.

BJ,
You probably conveniently forgot that it is Bush who stole the election literally in 2000, and many irregularities all over 2004 as well from GOP.
Love gop, yah.
Posted by: John | October 09, 2008 at 04:09 PM
Yeah since democrats have been accused of that sort of stuff before, like in 2000. Which one are you, rich, religious or racist?
Posted by: ebomb | October 09, 2008 at 04:09 PM
Voter registration fraud goes back to almost every election. Trying to pin this on Obama for this election is a joke. Trying to increase voter turnout SHOULD be a top priority for everyone. This story will get just as much traction as the one posted in 2004 against the GOP (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/10/14/politics/main649380.shtml). Terrorist supporter, Voter Fraud Supporter, anything but talking about the economy! Right? Isn't that the GOP mantra now? Remember the "hanging chad"? Sucks when you dont feel you are getting a fair shake in the election doesn't it?

Posted by: Democrats 08 | October 09, 2008 at 04:11 PM
BJ, did you actually just type that?
If Obama stole the election from Hillary, why on earth would she be campaigning for him now? The logic just doesn't check out. We need someone with new ideas and a new way of doing business, and most of all, someone with a completely different perspective. That's Obama. You're free to believe the lies and the propaganda being fed to you, but you'll be much better off looking at all of the facts and knowing the truth.
Posted by: PJ | October 09, 2008 at 04:14 PM
Grasping at straws BJ - Obama is the better candidate, that's why we have to suffer through all these negative attacks.

OBAMA / BIDEN 08! GO TEAM GO! - THE ONLY ELECTION DOING ANY STEALING WAS IN 2004 BY MR. GEORGE BUSH HIMSELF. B.J. KNOCK IT OFF WITH YOUR STUPID - ADOLESCENT POSTINGS. SENATOR OBAMA'S CAMPAIGN HAS PURCHASED PRIME TIME ON TV.......WOW SO UNUSUAL EH....COME ON HE HAS RUN AN INCREDIBLE CAMPAIGN ADMIT IT.
OBAMA / BIDEN 08 !!!

It's nice to finally see the conservatives and far right clan in their deaththrows... what about AYERS... and and... ACORN, and... and. um, REV. WRIGHT!!
I'm sorry BJ - guilt by association is McCarthyism... and we saw how far that got us.
Why not focus on what voters want to hear about, instead of forcing some conspiracy theories down their throats. This isn't 00' or 04'

To BJ and "my fellow prisoners": Mr. Obama doesn't have to "steal" the election. The McCain campaign is giving it away.

BJ, get over it Clinton lost fair and square, and the investigation was ended because, "insufficient evidence"....so stop Reaching.. and the investigation was un related to Obama/clinton race
Posted by: RB | October 09, 2008 at 04:18 PM
The investigation against ACORN is a sham, part of some serious voter suppression the Repub's are trying to perpetuate. The investigation is into whether certain voter registration forms they collected and submitted were fraudulent. But they have done everything above board, and in fact flagged as suspicious any registrations they were not sure about when they submitted those registrations to the state. There is documentation to back it all up. ACORN has to pass on the voter registrations, but they very diligently flagged any and all that seemed suspicious and notified the authorities. In fact, it wasn't even until they followed up with the state that anyone even bothered to look into it. No scandal here, not unless you consider the repub effort to engage in voter suppression (again) to be a scandal...

What kind of education President would Obama be? I think that the radical education groups he gave grants to when he ran the CAC gives us a hint. In addition, what kind of groups would Obama's mandatory national service program for college students benefit? Finally, Obama sued Citibank under the CRA that forced bad loans. It's not Obama's associations that bother me; it is his participation
Posted by: June | October 09, 2008 at 04:19 PM
Some Obama supporters have states that almost all of Obama's campaign money is coming from the "commond folks". B---s---!!! What foreign countries and foreign organizations are funding his campaign and how are the Obama people able to hid this fact? I'll never believe he does not have backers from the start of his campaign for the Senate who should not contribution to our political candidates. Obama is a crook, a liar and a communist.
Posted by: Carl Matthews | October 09, 2008 at 04:19 PM
and you can cite proof of your allegations.. where exactly?
Posted by: mr roberts | October 09, 2008 at 04:19 PM
He will need more then an hour to dispel the republican lie machine. This has got to be a low point for a man that was a veteran. As a military man myself I am disgusted at his conduct. The lies race bating behavior is horrible.
I watched Bush do this to Kerry but he was adishonored soldier anyway, this is horrible. For the second time in my life I have come face to face with a man that I can't call my brother in arms. Kerry and you are in the same catagory with one differance, Kerry was a disgraceful young officer. You are a war hero reduced to mudslinging. I had my absentee ballot ready to put in the mail. I have chosen to request a new one, I will be switching my vote to Obama.
Posted by: Don | October 09, 2008 at 04:20 PM
Sorry BJ, the October Surprise is that the economy is in the tank and McCain due to his closer association to Bush is taking the blame. No one with a brain cares about Acorn or Ayers or Keating or Troopergate. Let Fox News fart around with these distractions. The only real question is who's policies are better for the country right now. Answer: Not McCains who from the two deabtes has told me that he not only follow up Bush's failed policies but plunge us into even worse trouble. Palin has not helped his campaign either for alot of voters, especially independents like myself, and has essentially been a cancer for the GOP. They should send her back to Alaska and soon. Wake up. Common sense and reason has to prevail here not bs smear tactics of a dying campaign. If McCain had anything constructive to add to the debate he would be doing so now, not calling Obama, Hussein or talking about Bill Ayers who I should add was on a board, Annenberg, with Obama put together by a Republican and supporter of Reagan.
Posted by: Mark | October 09, 2008 at 04:21 PM
Dear BJ,
The October surprise has arrived. McSame will lose the election by at least 5% ! The day Obama wins, you will have to look yourself in the mirror and realize that your way of thinking is now the minority.
Peace & Love

It's really fascinating, watching the Obama-haters going berserk. I realize they see their version of a perfect world slipping away because of this uppity Black man. But frankly the rest of us have had enough of their "conservative" I've-got-mine-so-screw-you mentality. They can go ahead and think up all the wacky, right wing-nut conspiracies they want. Either way, their time is up. There is no way we'd trust those clowns with another four years!
Right wing wackos; meet your new President! Barack Obama.
Posted by: Joseph | October 09, 2008 at 04:22 PM
Am so disappointed in the republican tactic of exaggerations and fear and hate mongering. It does work, however, and it can be expected to work again. Palin supporters and the evangelical radicals remind me of Islamic extremists in their fury and angry posturing. The tendency towards violence in their monolithic crowds also brings to mind the third reich.
Is it really so impossible to consider losing gracefully?
Posted by: rjbunny | October 09, 2008 at 04:23 PM
How interesting that BJ thinks Obama is buying the campaign. Is he not able to make a decision on which way to vote on his own? Will Obama's purchase force him to vote democratic?
Not only that, if you want to talk 'steal', let's chat about the Florida elections. All okay if it's your team, eh? That's pretty shallow, BJ.
I suggest making use of your first amendment rights and buying your own tv spot to rebut Obama. I won't watch it, but then... that's my right.
Good luck in running your own life.

Palin is a Texas Post Turtle -
Let me explain-
When you drive along a road in Texas you will occasionally see a turtle balanced on top of a fence post. It doesn't know hot it got there, it doesn't know what to do there, and it doesn't know how to get down ....thats Palin!
Posted by: Texasoilman | October 09, 2008 at 04:25 PM
BJ,
HA! The Republicans are the ones trying to steal this election. Haven't you read about the federal court case they just started against the State of Ohio? They are trying to get newly registered Democrats kicked off the roles. Lovely bunch of cut throats that Rove bunch. Let's just trample all over the democratic foundations of our country! Boy, that sure is country first!

Good, I hope they are informative and enlightening. Something provocative and intelligent would be a welcomed change. It is really getting hard to stand the negative attacks and character assasination attempts. OOPS, too bad we are so liberal we don't have a TV! Guess we can always hike to the neighbors house, 2 miles away.

STEAL an election? Nope, that's a GOP move (see 2000). Unfortunately, some Americans need to be beat over the head with the facts. If that means buying 30 mins of network time, great. The GOP has been screwing us for 8 years. It has to stop.
