With $605 million already, Obama asks only $10 more from each of us

October 23, 2008 |  6:02 am

Having hauled in a record $208,333 every hour of every day last month -- $150 million in all -- plus a few more unreported millions so far this month, Barack Obama is worried that he might come up short in the political money war with the John McCain-Sarah Palin ticket.

Just to relieve himself of that $150 million before the polls open, Obama will have to spend $12.5 million a day.

An Official Obama-Biden car magnet

But he needs some more.

And, according to an e-mail plea to supporters, tonight's the absolute deadline to donate $10 more and receive your special edition Official Obama-Biden car magnet.

Having now collected more than $605 million altogether, the freshman senator shows no concern over the appearance of buying the presidency. Imagine for a moment the national political conversation that could be going on now if rich Republicans had raked in that much loot for one campaign.

Obama's team is so well-funded and well-organized it has spread its political web into one-time red states, forcing McCain to defend them with his measly $84.1 million in federal funds.

Obama aides privately profess profound concern that additional financial resources from the Republican National Committee could make the GOP ticket competitive in the closing days. And the Cincinnati Bengals are a real Super Bowl threat this year.

"The race is deadlocked in a number of crucial battleground states," the urgent e-mail proclaims, "including Ohio, Missouri and Indiana. And we're neck-and-neck in Florida, North Carolina and Nevada.

"We have to make our final, tough decisions about where to fight and how strong we can make our team. And those choices will depend on the financial resources we have."

And, hey, if there's a few hundred million dollars left over in the campaign coffers on Nov. 5, win or lose, maybe Obama would like to put it toward the immense federal budget deficits that our colleague Stephen Braun warns this morning will confront the hopes and current plans of either an Obama or McCain White House come Jan. 21.

Well, given that Obama and his wife have ONE car - a Ford hybrid, and that Obama hasn't spent 150K on his personal wardrobe, I am willing to trust him with my money. He clearly puts others and the welfare of the nation before himself. What a wonderful role model. I have never been so excited about a president in my life.

Prompted by this article, this two time voter for George W and registered Republican is sending one last 50 dollar bill to the Obama campaign, right now..

The fundraising machine and organizational powerhouse of Obama stands in such contrast to the organizational disaster that McCain has wrought. Nothing assures me more about Obama's presidency than his ability to attract and manage the best and brightest, as he has.

How do you know where Obama's money comes from? At $99 per donation my name would not be reported. How many of his contributors actually live where they say? How much was laundered into his coffers by the likes of Soros laundering money to him. We'll never know because the Times and others will not dig into the sotry fo "The One." Main stream media joined the Obama campaign last year.

Is it your money? You can't tell people what to do with their money

I can always tell a legit journalist from a hack blogger by the way they spell "Cincinatti" get a clue and please quit dumbing down America's newspapers.

To MikeTroopa:

Try looking at Obama's donor list. There are plenty of very large donors who bankrolled his campaign. The majority of his funds ARE NOT from small donations. Although the author could have included that information, please do a little research for yourself.

I'm sure lots of investment bankers will donate to McCain in the last few weeks of the campaign. Oh, wait....

Thank you for someone finally calling the obvious.

A Few Rich Republicans? Does everyone forget that Warren Buffet (the richest man in the world) is an Obama Backer? Why is it Warren Buffet is a genius but others who have money but support McCain are greedy idiots?

Why does he keep asking for money anyway? He is going to get enough of it when he gets elected. Maybe he is sending the money to people who pay no taxes.

If this is what he does as a candidate, just think how he will be as a president. He will ask for more, and more, and more until there's nothing left for us.

Now that Obama has broken records in Fund raising . . . LET the crying begin. I can not remember the last time the Democratic Nominee had more money than his Republican Counterpart. Would have been nice if you pointed out how the RNC always has more money then the DNC and how both groups help out their nominee. If Obama would have taken the 84.1 mil in public financing . .he would have been at a disadvantage money wise because of the cash the RNC had on hand. So CRY all you want, it is people like I who only give a little at a time that helped defeat Hillary and I hope McCain will be next! BTW . .I did donate $10 for that magnet.

Mike Troopa I like how you explain away needing $605 million by paying volunteers. I never realized volunteers got paid.

what is the reason that you do not discuss one way or the other (frivolous or has merit) the lawsuit filed by Philip J. Berg, Esquire - a democrat- former Deputy Attorney General of Pennsylvania ) that claims that Obama is not a natural born US citizen and thus cannot legally run for President. The deadline has just passed this week for Obama to respond to the claims in the lawsuit and by choosing not to respond has at the moment... legally "admitted" to the lawsuit's accusations, including the charge that the Democratic candidate was born in Mombosa , Kenya .

either this lawsuit's claims are a fraud

- or-

if it is true that this man Barrack Hussein Obama is not a natural born US citizen that he should be stopped from being President as that is our law

Obama is a lawyer and certainly knows the law that if he does respond to the claims in time and does not ask for a continuance then he is admitting the accusations. Rush certainly knows the law as well. Obama --supposedly--has not responded to ANY of accusations in the lawsuit. The deadline for Obama filing a response stating why any/all of these claims are not true or frivolous supposedly has just passed this week - Supposedly Obama did not file a continuance either...Obama IS a lawyer and knows exactly what this means to not respond or ask for a continuance before the court imposed deadline - can you help the voters get to the bottom of this? - exposing this lawsuit as a fraud or that it should be taken seriously and may have merit based on the non-response to refute the claims

Is Phillip Berg - former deputy General of Pennsylvania (and a democrat) a nut case or???

wow if hes spending like that now imagine what hes gonna do when he wins... LOL

Sounds like a plan for taxes... More, More, More

I'm sending another $100 today. This is the first presidential candidate in 36 years I've had enough enthusiasm for to contribute my *very* hard earned money.

True . . .it's hard to imagine how he could possibly spend that much, but it will be worth it if it gets the neocons out of the White House.

Hey, Republicans... Tell me... How sour are those grapes? How bitter do they taste?

Because I'm sure if the roles were reversed, if Obama were down in the polls and McCain were raking in cash, this "writer" would have the exact same criticisms of the candidates, hmmm?

And I'm sure McCain would be wracked with "concern about the appearance of buying the presidency." LMAO.

Bullsh*t. I can't believe they pay people to write things like this.

Andrew, you misspelled Cincinnati... nice.

The Idiots in Hollywood and Oprah can pay to get this guy elected!! No amount of spending, commercials or cover ups for all his crooked ties will ever give him my vote!

It's not exactly hard to spend $12 million a day on a presidential campaign, considering the costs of advertising and the cost that must have been incurred on the half hour major network buys Obama did. At least Obama isn't spending this money on clothes and make-up.

Also, I'm not sure why so few people understand this... but the amount asked for depends on how much you've given already, it's not the same number for everyone. My email asked for $100. And I'd gladly give it if it could ensure an Obama win.

Catfish wrote: "Remember, the politicians get to keep all the left over campaign funds, so you fools just keeping sending him more money."

Actually, according to factcheck.org that has not been the case since 1989. They can donate it to their parties or (within limits) to other candidates' campaigns, but they can't keep the money for themselves.

"What candidates can’t do with leftover money is use it for personal expenses. Retiring federal lawmakers used to be able to pocket extra cash and use it for cars, vacations, clothes, pet grooming, whatever -- but that changed in 1989 with the passage of the Ethics Reform Act." - http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/what_happens_to_a_candidates_leftover_campaign.html

Yes, millions of people donated to Obama. Proud Americans like:
Good Will
Dick Tracy
Mickey Mouse
Qwerty Asdfg

With support like that, it's hard to see why we don't scrap Election Day all together and just appoint Obama President by fiat.

NO please send him the money. He is going to spread the wealth. I look forward to getting my share.

He is going be a man of his work right and share some of it. I know deep down in my heart he will spread the wealth.

I would like to see what Mike Stuoopid would have wrote IF the GOP would have rasied this kind of money. Sorry for the spelling error; I was looking for false statements before spelling. Idiot. Go Obama!!!!!!!

I do not like Obama. I think he is trash, however. He does notget to keep any money left. It must be spent on bills related to his White House run. He can donate it to the DNC if he wants.
