Gallup overnight poll shows race stabilizing; Obama ahead of McCain

October 6, 2008 | 12:45 pm

So far, not so good in the latest offensive by the John McCain campaign against Barack Obama.

The latest Gallup overnight tracking poll shows little change in the race, with the Democratic presidential nominee leading his Republican counterpart by 8 percentage points. The next major opportunity for change would be Tuesday night's presidential debate in Nashville. This one is townhall-style.

Democratic presidential candidate Illinois senator Barack Obama

Here's what Frank Newport of Gallup writes:

"Barack Obama leads John McCain among registered voters across the country by a 50% to 42% margin in Gallup Poll Daily tracking from Oct. 3-5, the tenth straight day in which Obama has held a statistically significant lead.

"This 10-day stretch of a significant Obama lead is the longest since he became the presumptive nominee back in early June, and the longest for either candidate at any point in the campaign.

"Today's result includes interviewing conducted Friday through Sunday, after the Oct. 2 vice presidential debate between Gov. Sarah Palin and Sen. Joe Biden, and after Friday's passage of a revised economic rescue plan to help alleviate the Wall Street financial crisis."

The results, which show neither candidate moving much, suggest that neither of these events had a significant effect on voter preferences and the race may have stabilized.

both mccain & obama will be a disaster for the economy because they both believe in the federal reserve system & the fiat dollar, which together allow politicians to spend like drunken sailors -- by intervening, the government's only making things worse

Every once and awhile, Americans do something completely mystifying - they behave in an intelligent manner, in contrast to their usual logic defying stupidity, though it only seems to occur when they're faced with a crisis. When things are going good, that's when you have to look out, because they become intellectually lazy and are more than capable of putting an imbecile like George Bush in the White House.

With Obama, America has a chance to recover the respect she lost during the Bush years. She has a chance to open a new page and not look like a bunch of cattle being led around by the nose by a bunch fat, never satiated parasites.

Let's hope the day of the spoiled frat boy presidents are over - and McCain is definitely one of those; another rich kid who never had an ounce of empathy for those who were unlucky enough not to have a well connected father who could get them out of the sort of jams that would have sunk a "lesser," born man.

And let's hope America doesn't install into power any more shills for the oil, tobacco, and insurance industriesm, or who ever's shameless enough to invoke God as being a partisan for their candidacy.

Because if you people vote for that utterly despicable John McCain (he's more than proved what he is with this campaign), you'll deserve what you get, which will be a Sarah Palin Presidency. And if that happens, you'll see who God's for and isn't for - and quick too.

So teh public didn't fall for the nonsense about Ayers, a non-convicted founder of a group that turned violent later on, that was 40 years ago when Obama was 8, taht he met in a community group having zilch to do with radical politics.

Are the voters growing up or is it just that Palin-McCain having nothing new?

Palin is dangerous and if she runs next time might win. These Republicans should finally fade away like the Whig PArty or the Know-Nothings they most emulate.

If the polls are accurate (abutI don't believe polls taken by the liberal media) and don't change in the next month, for the first time in our wonderful Nation's history we will have a socialist, leanding toward communism, president and commander in chief. Our forefathers will be turning over in their graves asking "why did we work so hard to make our country free, a democracy and work so hard on having a constitution when over 200 years from now, the idiots will rip this free country apart. We might as well have done nothing". Our country is definitely not "united" and if Obama wins, it might as well be called Socialist States of America.

Did anyone see that video of the fraternity ofblack middle school students in Kansas City standing with arms crossed chanting Obama slogans? The ir teacher was suspended. We have now come to this: A Hitler type youth movement.

"Obviously," having been victimized by the villainous black man for so long, it's time to MCain/Palin to stop "playing nice.” We can expect Sarah Palin (who can’t identify a single newspaper or magazine that she reads) to unearth the “truth” about Obama’s “central role” the financial meltdown, the Black Panther movement, the Tate-Bianca murders, the JFK assassination, the sinking of the Lusitanian, slavery and, of course, the crucifixion of Jesus. Of course, she will also “prove” that Barack “isn’t being honest” about his religious affiliation (clearly he’s a Muslim), his religious affiliation (clearly he is a disciple of the wild-eyed reverend guy), his religious affiliation (clearly he is an atheist), his religious affiliation (maybe he’s really a Jew since he’s responsible for the crucifixion) and his religious affiliation (clearly he belongs to some tribal African cult). I never imagined that I would ever make a contribution directly to a political candidate, and certainly not to a Democrat. But my revulsion and disgust for these slime-buckets is so deep that today was a first for me.

Figure there was a train heading fast towards your children, which candidate would lay down his life to save them? Which candidate is motivated by the desire to serve, and which by the desire for power? How do you know? How has he served? How has he sacrificed?

Who cares more about doing right than being thought right? Which one wants to spread YOUR money around? How can you give a tax cut to 95% of the people when only 60% of the people pay federal income taxes?

If we make employers poorer what happens to jobs, what happens to opportunity and innovation? If a business is taxed, who pays the taxes, the business or its customers through higher prices, less valuable products and service?

Shouldn't a business person make an income on both their labor AND the assets that they invest and put at risk? What happens if investments can't earn and retain a competitive profit AFTER regulation and taxation? Do the businesses and their jobs either close or relocate? Why should they stay?

Does prosperity in the form of investment and jobs seek out a place to prosper like a plant leans towards the light?

What happens to this country when that light ceases to shine for business here? Where do our jobs go?

If businesses and those who invest in them are to be consumed, like a goose led to the slaughter, why shouldn't they fly away to safety to lay their golden eggs elsewhere?

And if we make our communities, our states, our nation, a place where these special geese can prosper in safety, might our precious golden geese call out and bring others of their kind to lay their golden eggs among us for the profit of us all.

Is the drop in the stock market perhaps a flight of investment money (golden geese) away from a nation where the leading Presidential candidate has committed to double taxes and lay costly mandates, thus making the sunshine of other homes call our golden geese away
AWAY taking with them our jobs, our homes, and our hopes with them?
