Sarah Palin will be missing from action Sunday a.m.

As is The Ticket's custom, a post listing the entire roster of appearances on this Sunday's interview programs will pop up Saturday at noon PDT (3 p.m. EDT).

But here's an advance heads up, in part because of who WON'T be found on any of the chat shows.

Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin campaigning with the top of the Republican ticket, John McCain Three of the four now-official candidates on the major-party presidential tickets are scheduled to sit down for questions: Democrat Barack Obama on ABC's "This Week," his running mate, Joe Biden, on NBC's "Meet the Press" and Republican John McCain on CBS' "Face the Nation."

Absent from this list, of course, is the GOP's star of the moment, the not-so-long-ago obscure governor of Alaska who is McCain's running mate, Sarah Palin.

Since she was thrust onto the national stage a week ago, her appearances on it have been tightly regulated by the McCain campaign: a few side-by-side campaign stops with him and, of course, her big speech to the GOP's convention Wednesday night.

Today, top McCain aide Rick Davis indicated the campaign isn't in any hurry to slot Palin for a Sunday show appearance -- and will do so only if he and other strategists determine it serves the ticket's purposes, not because some may view it as a required initiation for a major political player.

Appearing on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" show, Davis said, "I'd never commit to anything in the future. ... Our strategy is in our hands, not the media's. We're going to do what's in our best interests to try to win the election. If we think going on TV news shows are [sic] in our best interests, we'll do it. If we don't, we won't."

Palin still will be busy this weekend. She'll campaign Saturday with McCain in two key states -- Colorado and New Mexico -- and she'll deliver his campaign's weekly radio address. That's one of those trappings of the presidency McCain has borrowed (notwithstanding the barbs his forces like to sling at Obama along these lines).

For a woman with so much more experience than her competition, I am surprised her handlers are going to such great lengths to keep her muzzled. But why be surprised? If it's not about the world being created in six days, anti gay rights, anti green policies or anti abortion even for rape cases, perhaps she needs to keep silent. Pit bulls bite more than thy bark, don't they?

Palin replied: "As for that VP talk all the time, I'll tell you, I still can't answer that question until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the VP does every day?

Tough talking Sarah Palin is a coward.

McCain-Palin is the biggest scam the reps. have pulled! The lies they told in the convention was amazing. They are an insult to the American people --particularly women. The woman can read a script well -- and lie just as well.

What are they trying to do to this country? McCain is an egomanaic -- he talked only about himself.

I am so sick of hearing POW and any reference to it! How does that make him intelligent enough for the presidency?

Sarah apparently was chose for her looks --what an insult to all the other republican women who are qualified!

The advisors to McSame appear to have gone to a brainwashing camp for deception, craftiness and lies.

How can evangelicals support these crafty liars and put the country in danger? Do they really believe in God?

I agree w/ hmpierson....I have been dreaming about what the great Tim Russert would have to say about Ms. Palin and her so called experience. If only he could question her in the hot seat on Meet the Press the debate would be over, she is not qualified. I bet he is shaking his head in disbelief as he looks down from Heaven at what the GOP is attempting to do. Another 4 years of Republican rule and this country will be beyond repair. Obama - Biden 08!!!!

Palin is the death card for McCain. Make no mistake, this election is over. The voting is just a formality. We've had eight years of Neocons changing and re-writing the rules and the Constitution to suit their needs. America is not only sick of it, we're done with it. We are a nation of laws, and we have had ENOUGH!

I'm going to make a little prediction of my own. This decision to refuse to allow her to speak to the press is the last straw. Gloat all you want Palin-lovers, but real Americans love America before any one person or anyone's agenda. We are SOOOO not going to let this happen.

I predict that this little ploy will backfire massively at the polling booths on November 4th, and that Obama will become our next president. It won't be because of Democrats, but because of the millions of Republicans and Independents who love America too much to allow this nightmare to go on a minute longer.

And when we're done, we the people are going to hunt down Karl Rove, and he WILL answer the subpoena he's going to get from us, by gunpoint if necessary. Why do you think he's fighting so hard to get McCain elected by any means necessary? No McCain, no more executive privilege exemptions from prosecution. He's the reason we've got this Palin circus to distract us from the fact that McCain hasn't got an issue to stand on.

We're going to get Bush, Cheney and the others who are responsible for the torture, suspension of due process, the murder of our soldiers in an illegal war started by lies, the failure to try to capture or even prosecute en absentia Osama Bin Laden for the murder of over 3,000 Americans on 9/11, and the overall attempted destruction of the greatest country on Earth. Then we're going to let the world put them on trial for war crimes to set an example for the next 1000 presidents as to what happens to people who try to turn America into a banana republic.

Justice will FINALLY be served...at long, long last.

McCain claims she's ready to step into his shoes as President if need be but she's not yet ready for T.V.?

He can't have it both ways. (And sound intelligent But then....)

Listen Sarah,
If you want us to vote for you, YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO TELL US ABOUT WHERE YOU STAND ON THE ISSUES!
Have you seen the unemployment rate, even?

People are suffering miserably. I have lost, 50% of my business in the last 6 months.
Sarah, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO FOR ME???
Oh, I know:

START WAR WITH IRAN
START WAR WITH RUSSIA

Well, then for sure, you're going to have to start the DRAFT, won't you? Yes, you will!

IF YOU'RE SO READY WITH ALL YOUR EXPERIENCE, THEN WHY ARE YOU HAVING TO BE COACHED ON YOU'RE, POTENTIALLY, NEW JOB?

You told Larry Kudlow, "Heck, I don't even know what a VP does"!! That was 2 months ago little Sarah.

Oh, after the draft and wars, which your pastor says, are the will of God, and YOU AGREE, then you'll start banning BOOKS AND CERTAINLY ABORTIONS!

IF SARAH WERE A MUSLIM, YOU WOULD CALL HER AN EXTREMIST!

SHE IS A GIMMICK, AND IT LOOKS LIKE IT MAY BE WORKING. ONCE AGAIN, THEY ARE SCARING AMERICA INTO VOTING FOR THEM, NOT TALKING ABOUT THE ISSUES.

SHE IS A TERRIFYING EMPTY SUIT, BUT WE WON'T KNOW THE EXTENT UNTIL THEY'RE WILLING TO LET HER SPEAK, ABOUT THE ISSUES!!!

Apparently Republicans have really enjoyed the last Eight Years or are so petrified that there might actually be a Black Man in the White House that they are begging for an initial four more years of the same or worse. How sad for those of us who have lost our homes, our jobs, our children.

It comes down to once elected will the person voted in actually make good on their promises and that goes both ways.

This is pitiful. A candidate that mostly does prescripted speeches and hides from interviews. If the republicans are elected this is definetly a prescription for 4 to 8 more years of the same old crap.

Where's Sarah? ......... this should be asked by Dem surrogates over and over . This should be a new campaign motto

This my fellow country men and women is REALITY TV! Most of the GOP's will understand this. How ridiculous does McSame think the American people are??? That voice of her's.......................schrill can't even begin to describe it. If she's SO smart and ready to shake things up in DC, why can't she tell us in her own words? She uses her Down Baby as a prop. That to me is child abuse!

The next president will have near Imperial power. I'd rather have a professor of Constitutional law rolling back Bush's policy than having a past his prime hawk and a bible thumping ideologue deciding when to move troops into my neighborhood to "protect" me.

Obama will work for world peace.

McCain eats whirled peas.

Basically, Davis is saying that letting Sarah Appaling speak to the media is not in the campaign's best interests. Hmmmm, interesting.

She can't allow herself to be interviewed until she finishes reading "U. S. Presidency for Dummies" (yes, it's a real book). And maybe she'll borrow "that Greenspan book" from McCain after he finishes reading it. This way they will both be on the same page (literally) on the economy.

What are they hiding NOW?

are you in the media going to let the american public get their info from the talking points of the repubs? AGAIN!!!!?? like for the last eight years....

"Today, top McCain aide Rick Davis indicated the campaign isn't in any hurry to slot Palin for a Sunday show appearance -- and will do so only if he and other strategists determine it serves the ticket's purposes, not because some may view it as a required initiation for a major political player."

... hey, Rick! You're so right. We, the people, shall be happy with what the campaign feeds us with. That feels to me like a reality show where all actors act scripted.

If she's not there it is clear that she is NOT a major political player....That's what it seems McCain
has concluded.

WHO ARE WE TO ARGUE?

Failure on her part to engage the American people via the media will simply foster an environment of suspicion. Moreover, it will give ditch-dwelling partisan pundits an opening to cast all sorts of unfounded aspersions on her character. Better she were to give them real substance to assess. More importantly, it would ensure voters did not remain ignorant of not just her social policy positions, and her grasp on international affairs - it would leave them with a basis upon which to make an informed choice.

I call upon the GOP's Mesmer's and backroom Geppetto's to cut her strings in order to give her a chance to prove she is a fully articulated politician like Hillary. Jiminy McCricket may not wish to see this happen - but it is time. What's the worse that could happen? Surely, her nose will not grow?

I've tuned out the Sunday morning talk shows. I don't care what the pundits say.
Let them interview one of their own: Joe Biden - every Sunday, it doesn't matter...
No one watches anyway except for the incestuous liberal media and their Barrack Obama friends.
Meantime, McCain and Palin are talking to Americans in battleground states.
I'll tune in again on Election night and see what the voters say.

I like the idea of Palin->people and McCain->media for the next few weeks. Since MSM is undeniably in Obama's camp (check out the stats on recent NY Times articles for the latest), which should she be immediately interrogated by dems?

As for coming up to speed... Obama needed time to come up to speed; after all, he has zero foreign policy experience as well.

Maybe we should send Sarah on a nice week-long international trip as well. When she gets back, she'll be just as qualified as Barry :)

Sara Palin VP? Well Dan Quayle did it. Remember he thought Latin Americans spoke Latin? Like Quayle, I suspect there is less than meets the eye with Palin.
NEVER, EVER overestimate the American voter!!!

Since when did the VP pick become a manager in training gig?

Sarah Palin? So far, she looks like a Bridge to Nowhere.

Could it be that she has some other, more important things to do on Sunday? You fools who are saying that the reason she isn't going to be on TV on Sunday is a clear indication that she isn't prepared are only hoping for that - she is more than prepared, and you should be thankful that she isn't going to be on TV, exposing Obama and Biden for what they are - empty shirts promoting empty promises - promises they can't hope to deliver.

Come on ... y'all said that she's 'HOT" ..... yeah, she's a hot topic ... and, hot-headed with hot-flashes and probably night sweats .... it's called MENopause. Stop hiding, don't be scared Sarahcudda ... time to swim with the sharks. We're waiting.

A little like Schwarzenegger refusing to debate in the California recall election. Unfortunately avoiding unscripted questions paid off for him.

So, you think placing the fate of the world in the hands of "a complete wildcard" is somehow a good idea?

Well,, well, well. So the campaign won't let Palin appear unless it benefits them?

In that case, the media should simply ignore her. And if the campaign offers or even requests that Palin appear, said media should reply: "Thanks, but no thanks."

Who needs her?

Its getting more and more difficult to look and listen to Palin. She's reading. She says nothing, she just reads. They are afriad to put her out to the media because she's in way over her head, and they all know it. Do you think Joe Lieberman loves Palin???? i dont' think so. He's training her at their midnight sessions on foreign policy. It's gross and i really hope they let her loose soon. That should take care of this problem easily.

"country First" - I think "Campaign First" is a more
appropriate slogan for John McSurge and "Pit Bull" Palin.

Does anyone remember that Joe Biden didn't appear on any national talk shows for over a week after he was selected, either? It takes a little time to bring the new candidate up to speed on the campaign strategy and official positions of the person on top of the ticket.

Seriously Sally. Do you actually believe what you just wrote.

I am appalled at the lack of critical thinking going on in this country - especially amongst the Republicans.

Sarah Palin is nothing more than a dog and pony show, a trinket delivered to the religious right. If the Republicans are so concerned about the country, why are they are circling the wagons around someone they know NOTHING about... and how could they? John McCain only really met the woman 2 weeks ago.

The little we do know: (attempted) book-banner, creationist, Taliban-gelical (her words) who supports Alaska's secession. Sounds downright un-American.

The whole thing is terrifying.

What a pathetic woman this Palin is. I cannot look or listen to the drivel that she READS. She has no ideas, she just reads words from the evil Bush speech writers. What a joke. I'm sickened by the Republican party.

If she doesn't appear she has something to hide...oh please. The MSM is getting exactly what they deserve after that spectacle of last week. Reporters can spend their time now searching for drops of amniotic fluid and afterbirth samples to find out whose child trig is!

Most people in flyover land know the MSM for what it is...a cesspool of east coast and west coast elititists who think the whole world revolves around them. They stopped being journalists a long time ago.

It's funny reading the GOPers posts.
How anyone could support Gov Palin, without her EVER answering a question... it just shows what criteria these people use... member of *the Party* - check.
Anti-abortion - check.
*What a great candidate - whooohooo.*

At this point, you can't conclude anything else, but that the present-day GOP is a cult.
These people are devoid of curiosity, and thought.
They just repeat what they're told, and then follow.

Stepford Sarah - being programmed to think.

At 44, Sarah Palin is going to be around for a long time. You are looking at the future first woman president, my friends. Laugh or make fun of her now, all you left wing liberal loon bloggers. You all are in for a rude awakening when it comes to this rising political tour de force. Get used to it now.

To the poster Josey Wales,

May I just say that calling a candidate for president a 'chump' and your favored candidate 'awesome' is not persuasive to those of us whose political views differ from your own.
Threatening that if Americans do not support the policies of an inept president, who has involved us in a war with a country that did not attack us, destroyed our economy and our standing in the world, then we will be 'struck down' is beneath the religious overtones of your post. Dare I say that it is unChristian to make such threats.
If you were to be unbiased and honest, certainly you would admit that the Republican convention was filled with nasty and false allegations against the Democratic candidate while the Democratic conventions focused on the differences in points of view on issues.
It would serve all Republicans and Democrats alike to take the debate to a higher level where talk of being struck down or being chumps is not tolerated.
Sally

Not surprising. This is further evidence and quite frankly, an admission by the McCain campaign that Palin is not ready. She is hiding from the media to give her time to get a crash course in how to handle Tom Brokaw and Bob Scheiffer.

We have a candidate for VP who is willing to be one heart beat (and an old one at that) from the presidency, but is afraid to go on the Sunday morning shows? Help!!!!

Gee, kinda like how defense attornies don't like to put their clients on the stand, ya know? Opens 'em up to too many questions...

If you in the MSM let the Republicans off the hook for sheltering Palin from hard questions, you're a bunch of punks.

fellow citizens.....

WE CAN NOT TAKE THIS LYING DOWN.....

IS IT EVEN LEGAL THAT A CAMPAIGN DECIDE IF SHE ANSWERS TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE????

SHE COULD BE OUR PRESIDENT BY THANKSGIVING....

10 DAY AGO 300 MILLION PEOPLE NEVER HEARD OF HER.......

SHE HAS TO STEP UP TO THE MICROPHONE AND TALK TO US AND NOT IN A SPEECH!!!

WE MUST INSIST ON THIS......

SEND EMAIL TO MEDIA OUTLETS DEMANDING THIS....THEY WILL HAVE TO MAKE IT A STORY

I realize Palin's positions and ignorance on a host of substantive matters (Iraq, global warming, ANWR, economics, etc.) and her involvement in several political scandals (troopergate, support of Alaska Independence Party, firing of city librarian for refusing to censor books, etc.) are far more important than her personal issues. Still, should Palin ever submit to an interview or press conference, I would like to hear her answers to the following questions: (1) how did she know her baby had Down's syndrome before he was born; (2) if she had an amniocentesis procedure, did she have that procedure because (a) she was contemplating the possibility of an abortion, (b) she wanted a prenatal paternity test, and/or (c) some other reason?

What's the problem? Isn't she the one with more experience than anyone on both tickets? I think McCain has one huge mess. Palin is in for the ride of her life. Palin's no real politician because she would have refused the VP offer. She is a good bluff.

McCain's arrogance and true colors are showing. We will bring her our when it suits our needs.
