Live from New York, it's "Sarah Palin"! (Oh, and "Hillary Clinton," too)

September 14, 2008 |  9:30 am

“Saturday Night Live” kicked off its 34th season last night with a “nonpartisan message” from Sen. Hillary Clinton (SNL regular Amy Poehler) and Gov. Sarah Palin (guest Tina Fey).

As the two stood behind a lectern, flanked by American flags, "Palin" said they were “crossing party lines” for this unexpected joint appearance “to address the now very ugly role that sexism is playing in the campaign ...”

“... an issue which I am frankly surprised to hear people suddenly care about," interjected "Clinton."

And it got better from there.

“PALIN”:  "You know, Hillary and I don't agree on everything ..."

“CLINTON” (OVERLAPPING): "Anything. I believe that diplomacy should be the cornerstone of any foreign policy."

“PALIN”: "And I can see Russia from my house."

“CLINTON”: "I believe global warming is caused by man."

“PALIN”: "And I believe it's just God hugging us closer."

“CLINTON”: "I don't agree with the Bush Doctrine."

“PALIN”: "I don't know what that is."

Poehler portrayed Clinton in a number of sketches last season, including one that satirized what was seen as the media’s love affair with her opponent for the Democratic nomination, Sen. Barack Obama. Fey’s strong resemblance to Palin was noted as soon as Sen. John McCain picked the virtually unknown Alaska governor as his running mate two weeks ago. Fey played that resemblance up last night, arranging her hair in a striking updo and perfectly mimicking Palin’s flat prairie accent.

[UPDATE: Palin was flying from Nevada to Colorado when the show was broadcast but was able to see it, thanks to the satellite TV system on her JetBlue charter. According to ABC News, there were guffaws from the sizable press pack aboard the plane -- but only silence from the front cabin, where Palin and her advisors were seated, even though flight attendants told reporters that it was on there too.]

Speaking of Obama, he had been scheduled to appear on "SNL" last night but canceled, citing the devastation in Texas resulting from Hurricane Ike.

Thank God some one in this country still
has a sense of humor.

Tina Fey has Governor Palin down cold. Kind of scary, actually. I'm a big Sarah fan and I thought sure SNL would trash her but surprisingly, they didn't. Her popularity is growing, thanks in no small part to the hammering she received by the mainstream media in the first few days. The media got burned big time so they've backed off. I noticed Obango bailed on SNL, ostensibly because of Hurricane Ike. Right. I bet he was wary of Tina Fey popping up and saying something, anything, that could backfire on him. Obingu has absolutely no sense of humor. Even Nixon made a cameo on Laugh In. "Sock it to me. Sock it to me?" I remember that and it was hilarious. Nixon unplugged. Hey, he won the election.

It's nice to see someone take on Palin's cluelessness. Lord knows the "liberal media" isn't doing so. Guess the right wingers who own the media might have a tiny effect....

BTW... did anyone watch that interview with Palin trying to bluff her way through the foreign policy questions? She got sandbagged by a total softball question!

It's a sad commentary on the far right, how they keep appointing braindead puppets... and their mouth-breathing constituents love them for it!

If anyone was in doubt about the bottomless stupidity of Americans, just read these posts. Of course, it's in the LA Times, cheerleader for far left open border hire-the-terrorist jerkoffs.

Fortunately, they are losing money daily and none of these reporters will see a pension.

Fey and Poehler for President and VP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is nothing wrong with a Women Vice President or President along as it not Sarah Palin. There were more worthy candidate in Republican arsenal. Carla Fiona, Meg Whitman, Condi Rice, Elaine Chao to name a few hundred thousand more.

The biggest danger to this country is to let the republican party remain a party. They are committed to the total destruction of the middle class and to have only two classes, master and serf. Along with the values and morals of the Christian right trying to move us back to the middle ages, this is the point in time that historians will point to as the the time America lost its way and followed the wrong path away from greatness.

Help America, vote Democratic in Nov. and put America back on the path to greatness.

HAhahahaha HAhahahaha Hahahahahahah
HAhahahhahah Hahahahhahaha
Sarah Palin.. JOKE! what a JOKE she IS!
She and McCain.. joke joke joke
Hahahahha Ahahahhahahah hahahahhahaha
this skit was absolutely FAB! The Truth really hurts the GOP! hahahahha ahahahhahaha ahahahhahahahah
hahahhahahahahah ahahhahahahh

Very funny sketch. And amazing the physical resemblance of Tina Fey to Palin. Though Fey is much prettier in real life.
The satire was right on. And if Palin came off as a dummy, well she is. But a conniving one. I guess that's an oxymoron. In a report from the NY Times today, it cited Palin's GW Bush style politics for hiring long-time buddies for top jobs. Case in point, she appointed her high school friend (a real estate agent who had no prior experience) to head the agriculture department–because she "liked cows. Remember "Atta boy, Brownie" from GW? She fires anyone who disagrees with her. She hid emails about the endangered Arctic Polar Bear (and it's near extinction) citing that there was no such thing as global warming and the bears were in fact just fine. When an internal memo proved that her administration did indeed acknowledge the problem. She attends a church that believes that the "attacks on Jews are well deserved because they don't believe in Jesus." So she supports Muslim terrorism. She is plainly anti-Semitic. Ironically, Muslims don't believe in Jesus.
She is for the destruction of the Jews. She believes it was God's will that we go to war in Iraq. She wants to force Christianity into public schools. She does NOT know what the Bush Doctrine is. Neither does she know what NATO exactly does. She then believes that we should go to war with Russia if they continue their attack on Georgia. So if England decided to take over the Falkland Islands again, we would go to war with England.
Palin believes in some sort of manifest destiny of God and America. And she also believes in the rapture. So I'm sure she anxiously awaits the return of Jesus and and Armageddon. And the destruction of the world. Oh goodie. Dr. Strangelove in a skirt.

SNL is in the ratings toilet so who cares about their knee-jerk Obama LoveFest. Over 90% of Mainstream Media is pro-Obama so practically ALL entertainers and comedians are doing what's politically correct in their industry....Serving Obama. And even with all their free help look what that got him...A tied race. .Now THAT'S FUNNY!

Saarah palin can see Russia from her house.... so i think she is defintely more qualified to lead the nation due to her exceptionaly close ties to a major world power.
Shes closer to russia than the lower 48 states also. which gives her credence and credability.
also... she has a gun and she is also very religious, which is something that I admire.
god bless america!!!!

Palin is awesome. You have tobe stupid not to vote for her. Vote Palin and save our future.

tvi was dead on about what makes comedy efective.
The best comedy comes from the social insight of a tragedy made over obvious to the point of obscenity and that makes it sureal and silly, geniuses like George Carlin undrstood that. I am afraid my fellow americans who reelected a terrible (argualbly the worst) president out of fear, and can be swayed again by flash "bulldog hockey lipstic" charisma, are incapable of reasoning it out- that its the issues and policies that need voting on. Of course I voted fo Nader (yes really ) so what do I know right?

The right-wingers can't stand it, LOL! Look at 'em on here whining and yacking up a storm. HAHAHA, I love it!

I cannot fathom that after 8 years of a leadership disaster in the White House, <50% of Americans still don't get it. Please tell me, how McCain -- Palin will change the tone how America responds to crises in the international arena, the "shoot first ask questions later" attitude, the willingness to engage and involve not just our allies, but the American public in the governance of our affairs. Mahrer once said "Most people are too stupid to be governed" and sadly, I have to agree with him.

Maybe because Palin doesn't have enough experience to be slammed with the tough stuff?

pssst... treating two candidates with grossly unequal qualifications in an identical way is not unbiased.

The slogan for liberals and the media is - I am liberal, therefore I lie. That is how most people in America see you. On November 5th, no matter how many times you say it or print it, Nobama will still not be president.

Sarah Palin is not running for President, however, she is qualified to be President because a President is a leader. No one person is smart enough to run the country alone, that is what advisers are for. What the the country needs is person with unwavering beliefs, strong oratory skills, and a vision. Sarah Palin has these qualities in spades. She is a natural leader, with one speech energized a country and terrified the democrats. She has the lived as a normal middle class person, working for a living. This makes her more qualified to lead the country than anyone in recent history. Obama is nothing but a DNC puppet. Obama will say and do anything to get elected. He has no spine, he is soft. He would apologize to the world for the existence of America. He would discount all of America greatness just to seek the worlds approval. Obama is weak and would make America weak. Both McCain and Palin make no apologies for America, we still are the most generous and giving country on the face of the earth. For example 2004 Tsunami relief: China gave 146 million, France with all their big talk, 302 million, America 2.8 billion in relief funds. That says it all. God Bless America should never be turn into a politically incorrect saying.

I don't know why does people from GOP complain. They have their own 24/7 cheer leading network in FOX

snl has lost its credibility and now about half of its audience. Poor decision making by management. Phelps- don't drink the cool aid man, it's not what they say

Hey 'Watcher'..if anyone can be governor of Alaska..what are you doing with your life?

For democrats to be the party of peace, love and acceptance of various points of view..its uneasy to see them bash Palin for standing by her views. Dems are hypocrites with identity issues. Which is why most Americans are uneasy with Obama and that guy he chose for VP..what's his name again..no one seems to be speaking about him anymore.

Besides that..the Patriots are an overrated team.

Good day.

Ho Hum! Brings back recent memories (over 2 weeks ago) of a very boring campaign. Obama comes across as a pencil neck dufus with no backbone. Look at his hairline around his ears...gray hair! Palin is giving Obama gray hair! Remember the Latin word for left is SINISTER. It seems the Romans had it right about the left 2000 years ago. Go girl, kick some ass and win. I'm voting for Sarah. Caio!

Nonpartisan Observation: Either party has its own position of issues: it's fine, but ONLY IF the party ACCOMPLISHES such position. By observing both parties' movements, it can be said that Dem. has much more FLIP-FLOP character. The very good example is: The party 's (Dem.) sudden FLIP-FLOP to pro-offshore oil drilling position from the previous strong anti-offshore oil drilling position. This recent fact evidently shows the party's FLIP-FLOP character: They are now afraid of losing the upcoming election if they keep their "anti-offshore" as the majority of Americans are "pro-offshore." This fact indicates the Party may change their position anytime calculating advantage/disadvantage, instead of keeping their policy and integity.
