Obama-backer Oprah says no Sarah Palin on her TV show

Oprah Winfrey, the billionaire TV talk-show diva who is supporting the Democratic presidential nominee, says she will Oprah Winfrey supports Barack Obama for the presidency and campaigned for him but now prohibits the Republican female vice president Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska from being on her widely-watched TV shownot allow the Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin on her daily show, which is widely viewed by women.

The 44-year-old Palin is the first female nominee on a Republican presidential ticket in the party's 164-year history, though she is little-known outside Alaska, where she was elected a reform governor in 2006.

Palin, a former high school basketball star and beauty pageant contestant, is the mother of five, an outdoorswoman and part owner in her husband Todd's commercial fishing business.

This past year Oprah endorsed Barack Obama for president. It was the first time she bAlaska Governor Sarah Palin the first female on a national Republican Party ticket in historyecame publicly involved in politics.

Oprah emceed numerous rallies for the freshman Democrat senator in key caucus and primary states, drawing large crowds, donations, media coverage and many new volunteers. She also hosted a lucrative fundraiser at one of her homes, near Santa Barbara. But she has so many we can't count 'em.

Oprah's political involvement, as noted previously by...

...The Ticket, hurt her in TV ratings, though she remains clearly the most-watched such show.

Many commentors on Ticket items expressed resentment that Winfrey, who made her fortune off appealing to women, would desert the first serious female candidate to vie for her party's nomination, Hillary Clinton, another Democrat, in favor of a male candidate, Obama. She also did not have Clinton on her program during the campaign.

TMZ, the widely-read celebrity website, asked Winfrey about having Palin on her program to describe her life and views to other American women.

In a post earlier today, TMZ said Winfrey replied, "There has been absolutely no discussion about having Sarah Palin on my show."

According to TMZ, Winfrey also said: "At the beginning of this presidential campaign when I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates."

Winfrey also said she would "love" to have the Republican candidate on her show, but only after the Nov. 4 election, which pits the Illinois Democrat Obama against Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain.

Winfrey has had Obama on her program two previous times, in January 2005 and again in the fall of 2006 shortly before he announced his presidential candidacy.

What do Ticket readers think? Is this fair? Would you watch an Oprah show with Palin and/or Obama? Do you still watch Oprah's program in the first place?

I think it is very disapointing, discusting and misleading that Oprah promotes woman rights and indepence .Its obvious now that Oprah is PROBLACK before she is PROWOMAN. She used us to get succes and power. Now that we have a woman Gov. Palin, who may break this glass cealing she refuses to have her on her show. It just shows how she has her agenda and is willing to step on a woman's succes if it goes against her agenda........ As a stay at home mom I will no longer watch her show and encourage others to do the same.

Racist Oprah can go to hell; I don't care about her anymore. White women made her the powerful, billionaire she is today...and now she's all out to support "a black brother" there you go, don't we feel used now?

A hero of women? Hardly. If Palin were black, Oprah would trip over herself to try and book her on the show.

Reverse racism at its finest.

SHAME ON YOU OPRAH!!
NOT HAVING HILLARY CLINTON ON YOUR SHOW IS A DISGRACE. THE ONLY REASON YOU SUPPORT OBAMA IS CLEAR TO ALL -- HE IS BLACK.

HOW COULD HAVING JOHN MCCAIN, HILLARY CLINTON OR SARAH PALIN ON YOUR SHOW ROB OBAMA OF HIS CHANCE TO BE IN THE WHITE HOUSE.

WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF?

Whether or not Gov. Palin would appear on Oprah is irrelevant. Oprah used her show as a platform to promote Sen. Obama when she had him on her show before he officially declared his candidacy. She's not a journalist, she's a talk show host. Her endorsement of Obama would be meaningless without her show. She brought her followers to Obama and now by declaring her desire to not use her show for politics, she's showing her true colors. She's choosing race over sex. She's choosing black liberation theology over evangelical Christianity. She's choosing Chicago politics over reform.
Perhaps most importantly, she's choosing the elite over the middle class. Ironically, it's the middle class that made her one of the elite.
Principled Americans, wether Democrat, Republican or Independent should turn off her show, cancel her magazine, and send her the message that women everywhere sent to Us Magazine.

Complaints because nobody knows enough about her and complaints about her going on TV. Typical. Also, she never asked to go on Oprah but that isn't stopping people on her for demonizing her for it.

she should stick to the show and stay out of politics
same with all of hollywood give me a break like your opinion is more important !!! oh wait sean penn & susan sarandon know more than we do ELITIST spare me the horror.

The internet was aflame at the weekend after the liberal internet columnist Charley James accused the polarising Governor of Alaska of making a racist, sexist remark to friends while dining at a restaurant in Alaska just after Barack Obama locked up the Democratic Party presidential nomination.

"So Sambo beat the bitch," she said, according to James, whose source was the waitress who served Mrs Palin. No one else has interviewed the waitress - known only as Lucille - to confirm it and none of the other diners have come forward.

Oh yeah Palin isn't racist...that's far fetched...she could not possibly have made the comment above. Oh no not her. I am no Oprah fan, but before everyone jumps on the Oprah is a racist band wagon...maybe you should all look internally at your own beliefs! Go Green Party!!

Palin does not support women's reproductive rights, I am glad Oprah will not give her a platform to speak. Oprah is smart and she will not support a candidate that goes against her morals and values as a women first.

I believe you all should stop hating. Oprah cannot please everyone black or white. You who said she is a racist need to take it back because she has more whites on her payroll and her show. Oprah had Obama on her show well before he announced his candidacy - McCain could have put her name out there along time ago if she were anybody. Why start on Oprah why can't she start on Meet the Press, CNN with Solidad O'Brien or The Today show. I bet you won't talk about putting her on "The View" ALL WOMEN!!! Stop crying!

I have watched Oprah since her debut on AM Chicago. I respected her for not getting involved in politics. When she decided to get into politics and make her canidate choice, I respected her. I feel disrespected when she gives her choice candidate air time but not his running mate and not his opponent and running mate. Regardless of politics and party affiliation, this is history. There should be equal time. Isn't this our founding fathers premis that "all men (women) are created equal"? Why does Oprah think that the republicans and women in poitics are not worthy of her show? This is disrespectful to her very viewership.

I am sorry but this would only be monumental if she deserved or had worked for the nomination of VP but she has not. Palin should not be revered and she should certainly not be celebrated. If you want to celebrate strong woman then look to those who have worked for it. example Govenor Kathleen Sebelius, the 1st woman in the senate Rebecca Felton, or Madeline Albright just to name a few... Palin doesnt deserve it!

It's not about "womens' reproductive rights" (what an oxymoron)...it's about the unborn babies' rights. You just don't get it.....*shaking head*

As far as Oprah is concerned....her face was permanently banned from my television when I realized what a racist she was

I think its unfair. It clear to me that Opera is in support of Obama. As far as Im concerned she lost me as a viewer, but I have a feeling she probably doesnt care. Its obvious that mcCain and Palin are a threat.

So What if Obama is African American Oprah is African American. I feel alot of people are blinded by what Obama is really saying because of his color. It just seems like certian people (even certian celebs) want him to win because they are the same race. Iam diffintly NOt a racicst or anything like that. I just think I hear and see things clearly and out of both parties I'd rather have McCain / Palin iin office because they just seems to speak to me and everything makes sence. Sorry if this offends anyone.Again,... I in no way am RACIST even though Im sure I'll be attacked for it. I just think I see things straight.

The criteria for being on Oprah has NEVER been that you have to be a woman. You also have to show up with something of Value to say so of course Sarah Palin should not be on Oprah; Sarah is neither strong nor intelligent. She forfeited her mind to a cult and she wants to be America’s next cult leader. I saw a video of her leading a prayer in her church. She thinks pipelines are God’s work. She’s Bush all over again and just like Bush her Foreign Policies won’t have anything to do with long or short term strategy or a basic understanding of repercussions. She will have Bush’s old line to God and will continue to bankrupt the country. The only question I need her to answer is how far into bed with big oil will she go? The only reason she was chosen for VP was because of her reproduction policies not her mind. She’s nobody to me. I see not reason to put her on Oprah.

Dear Oprah
I write this as a middle class white American woman, ONE OF MANY who made your show climb to the top over the years. I also held you with the utmost respect UNTIL this election, not for your choice but for the way YOU have tried to influence your viewers choice. You have showed US your true colors.
YOU are no better then any other politician who speaks from both sides of their month. I'm sure you believe that all you money gives you the right to do what ever you please, But PLEASE NEVER FORGET how you got to where you are today.. MONEY DOES NOT MEASURE A PERSONS CHARACTER.
You claim you will not use your show as a platform for this election but yet you had Obama and his wife on your show, who you kidding,, SARAH PALIN does not need your show for woman all over AMERICA TO SEE A REAL CHARACTER OF A LADY.

Sarah does not believe in having Creationism taught in public schools. She said that if the topic came up in class in should be discussed. It is true that she is against abortion in cases of rape or incest, but given the advent of the morning after pill, administered to rape victims, in hospitals all across the country, this should not be an issue anymore. We should educate our young to seek medical assistance in any case of forced sex, not teach them to use condoms or other forms of unreliable birth control--the only fix for failed birth control is to have the child or seek abortion--why how convienent for the abortion industry!

Oprah is super liberal, like many very wealthy people in America. She wears it like badge of honor, and if she has created her show to promote her causes and ideals, who are we to say she can't. It is a fact of life in America that rich African-Americans have a master-slave mentality. Being freed and making it big they turn upon their own breathern and use them for their own purposes.

PLAIN AND SIMPLE, THIS IS A CONFLICT OF INTEREST. OPRAH IS SHOWING HER COMMITMENT TO SOMEONE SHE ENDORSED, PLUS IT IS HER SHOW. IT IS TIME TO TURN OVER THE COUNTRY AND OPRAH IS HELPING THAT OBJECTIVE.

I never watch Oprah's show because I feel that she is way-of-course. She has become so popular with worldy people, that she now feels that she is so important to everyone, in fact she acts like she doesn't need God in her life. I don't believe or appreciate anything she stands for. She is too low class for me. I don't further the career of anyone who lives like she does; years ago, when a woman lived with a man out of wedlock they were considered a whore. What bothers me most is the innocent people that she will lead down the wrong path of life. She will answer to the God she doesn't believe in one of these days soon. I WILL PRAY THAT SHE WAKES UP BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!

IF YOU THINK OPRAH IS A RACIST, YOU MUST LOOK AT ALL THE OTHER SUPREMACY THAT PEOPLE OF AMERICA HAVE ENDURED, BUT YET YOU SIT SILENT AND TURN YOUR HEAD. HOWEVER WHEN YOU ARE FACE WITH IT, IT BECOMES UNFAIR AND UNJUST. SOME MUCH DOUBLE STANDARDS. IT IS OUR TIME, TO RECEIVE CREDIT, SOMETHING THAT WE HAVE NOT RECEIVED, ESPECIALLY, WHEN WE INFLUENCE MUCH OF TODAYS AMERICAN LIFE. OPRAH SHOW IS HER SHOW, IS JUST THAT, HER SHOW. BEFORE YOU CAN CALL SOMEONE A RACIST, YOU MUST IDENTIFY IT ACROSS THE BOARD AND RECOGNIZE IT IN THAT WAY. IT IS OUR TIME. NO LONGER WILL WE SIT BACK AND WATCH GREED, LIES, AND MANIPULATION DESTROY OUR NATION AND PEOPLE. DO NOT CALL SOMEONE A RACIST, THAT GIVES THEIR SUPPORT TO SOMEONE AND STICKS BY IT. THAT IS CALLED LOYALTY, WHICH MOST OF THE EARLY LEADERS DID NOT HAVE OUTSIDE OF THEIR GROUPS. GO BACK AND STUDY ALL THE INDIAN TREATIES THAT WERE BROKE BY THE GOVERNMENT AND READ ABOUT THE BLACK CODES. THEN VISIT AND LOOK AT OUR PRISONS. THEN WE CAN TALK ABOUT RACISM.

OPRAH IS NOT HAVING ANY CANDIDATES ON -- BEFORE OR AFTER

Obama has not been on since being a candidate, neither has McCain. Neither was Hillary Clinton, or Joe Biden. But the author of the blog sees Drudge say that Oprah refuses to put Palin on the show, and without doing the most basic journalism, posts it hear.

BE A REPORTER not a stenographer. The LA Times is a disgraceful shadow of what it was.

I always respected Oprah as a fair individual until now. Her refusal to have Palin on her show because Oprah is an Obama supporter just shows her bias and inability to give everyone a fair chance if it's not in her best interest. Dare I ask if this might even be racially motivated? As for me... NO more zerO's..... Obama, Oprah, or her O magazine. Boycot them all for the fakes they are.

I have never bought into that fat pig oprah. Now I never would support her or give her one penny.

I would like to say to everyone who is stating that Oprah is a racist, you are lacking common intelligence. Obama was on her show prior to announcing he would run for president. Everyone wants to scream thats "racism" , but what about the fact she hasn't had any presidential candidate on her show (even Obama after announcing he would run). You scream "she is a racist" but her show primarily has a white audience and a high number of white viewers. But you say she is a racist. An intelligent individual would identify that Palin should spend more of her time appealing to the American people and not just telling her life story to women. The first woman that may become the leader of our country, should be recognized for her executive skills not her motherhood abilities or the fact that she is a woman. Many people voted for Bush for a second term because he was so "likeable". But they failed to recognize the errors during his first term which should have out-weighed his "likeable" charm. When are we as Americans going to take the right to vote as a duty to our fellow Americans and the future generations of Americans in our country. Last but not least, Palin was not the first nominated canidate for the GOP, she was picked by the "Maverick" and was not chosen by a committee. I applaud Palin for her accomplishments and her commitment to her family. But as a woman, I do not want her to win because other women sympathize with her, I would rather she win as a strong candidate that shows that a woman can lead our country as well as a man.

Obama is just a pawn in Oprah's bid to take over the world.

Thanks,

Sad Sad I vow never to watch the Oprah again, "she is a racist" I thought her show was all about Woman and thier accomplishment. What ever!!
I applaud Palin for her accomplishments and her commitment to her family and her Country. By her not choosing, she is making this political !
This is a BIG MISTAKE ON HER PART!!
I always thought Oprah was open minded about alot of thing I guess not!! If I where Palin I would never want to be on her show. I am sure there are alot of shows that appreciates all that Sarah Palin has done. I guess I will be watching the other shows!!!

Well said Annie S.
Did any of you read the above article? No presidential candidate appeared on her show after they announced they were in the race. She was also quoted as saying, she would like to have Palin on the show AFTER the election.

You people are making me sad to be an adult.
It's not about race or gender. It's about standing behind the candidate you support. Don't whine if people don't agree with you - make a well reasoned argument (e.g. don't appeal to sexism or racism) and be done with it.

hey Big O...money is not important to you but doing GOOD is and you think that Obomba is GOOD for America..which shows what you think good is...you are way out of touch with reality...you think you know right from wrong...look in the mirror.....you do the things you hate but should hate the things you do....you have proven whats inside....its more than racism....its FEAR..you FEAR Gov. Palin...the question is why?

Why does this even matter?! All that the Palin supporters are doing is making a mockery of the US Election.

Why doesn't Palin do real interviews - Tom Brokaw, Ted Koppel, Brian Williams, to name a few? Why is she dodging journalists?

I think Oprah cares about the issues and the country. Obama represents the same values. Truth and compassion, not the self-rightous, hate and war focus of McCaine and Palin. I am a woman, and I'm more concerned about my children then a woman who can shoot a moose.

Why in the world do people believe this junk? Oprah would tear Palin apart anyway. The GOP would never have asked, since they are protecting Palin from any controversy. They chose ABC (Disney) and Charles Gibson because she will be treated so gently it will be cozier than a Barbara Walters interview.

Oprah is not a journalist. She made it clear that she liked Obama a long time ago. So what? She can't have an opinion? This is pure racism on the part of the media and the GOP loves spreading lies. No discussion about such a show ever took place. It's in the National Enquirer and everyone's blogging about it. Shame on you!!

I don't care WHO Oprah votes for. What bothers me is that she is appearing to be very very biased. Yes, it's her show, but we the people made her what she is today. Without us, she'd still be a little unknown co-host. She used to be genuine but money has made her fake, fake, fake. I haven't watched her show in over a year and never will again. I got tired of her talking over all of her guests and being a know-it-all. Couldn't understand why she would invite experts on her show and then talk over them as if she knew more than they did. Oprah is her best cheerleader!

Seems like Oprah is trying very hard this year to do everything she can to kill her ratings! Bad decision not to have Sarah Palin as a guest on her show. Oprah has campaigned for Barry Obama and he appeared twice on Oprah’s show! What does that tell you? She wouldn't be racist would she? Booooooooo for Oprah!!!!!!!

Go Oprah!!! Even though she clearly supports Senator Obama, she hasn't had him on her show since he announced his bid for the presidency either. If she had, had him on the show afterward, maybe someone would have an argument.
I for one am happy that Oprah has the principles she has.

I stopped watching her for while but I think I will have to go back.

Oprah cares too much for america to let Sara Stalin on her show.

You know if you read the article, you would realize that she hasn't had ANY of the candidates on her show post them becoming candidates. Its funny how people miss what is so plainly written in there face.

That the most fair thing she could do. She has an opinion but is trying not to bias her show with it. Thats respect for her viewers and thats an admirable action.

And to those judging her on so called picking her "race" over her "sex" did you consider the fact that maybe some people make decisions based on more than race and sex. Maybe she actually thought about some of the deeper issues and decided that way. DON'T BE SO SIMPLE MINDED PEOPLE. THIS ELECTION IS ABOUT MORE THAN RACE AND SEX. ITS ABOUT CHANGE!

What makes Oprah think Sarah wants to come on her show anyway? I am pretty much done with Oprah. I am not renewing my subscription to O magazine. I seldom watch her. Her endosement of Obama, her whacko spiritual ideas, have simply turned me off and offended me as well as many of my friends and assocciates. It is true she can do what she wants it is her show and we can do what we want and make sure Obama does not get elected. Let's show celebrities etc that we are smarter. Let's stand up and think for ourselves. Let's look at all the facts. and you the mind that God gave us. Kathy

Sarah can run circles around Oprah and she certainly doesn't need The Oprah Show to prove it. Perhaps Oprah is a little intimidated by the one woman who might just take her place as the most love woman in America.

I have watched Oprah for years through her life journey and to be frank....I can no longer stand her...I liked her better when she was a student of life instead of the self-appointed teacher she has deemed herself...think about it... Oprah's "favorite things"...because if Oprah likes it, it must be good...please!

It is so funny to hear people call Oprah a racist. For hundreds of years, many whites have only been for whites, and that was the way of the world. Likewise we're in 2008, and many people will vote for McCain for the simple fact that he's white and no other reason just to prevent a black from becoming president. They will look past that he voted against equal pay for women and vote for him because he is a white male. For the first time in history, Oprah and the rest of us will actually have a chance to vote for a black man for president. Many people say he's not ready or not experienced. I think he could sit back with his arms folded for the next 4 years and not do any worse than our past few presidents. Everyone says they're ready for a change EXCEPT if it comes in the skin of a black man.
Oprah has worked her butt off to get where she is...hence the American dream. So now she has the power and money to say who she can have on her show, and many don't like it. That's just too bad. But I know that any one of us would be happier than a kid at Christmas if she invited us on her show whether we like her or not.

Ahhh, remember the "Good ol' Days" for the liberal left? Things were SO much easier back then.

When the Democrats only had to say "Look, we've got a women on the ticket, we 'get it'!"

or, when Oprah didn't have to show her "true colors" by having to choose between a women or race.

or, when the National Organization of Women (NOW) didn't actually have to PROVE that they represented women (which they don't).

...the list goes on and on.

McCain has done more than just show great judgment by picking an excellent running mate.

McCain has begun to expose the rabid hypocrisy that permeates the liberal-left and Mainstream Media (MSM).

As the days, weeks and months go by, watch for yourself how the left tries to weasel-word their way out of the holes that they're digging for themselves.

Don't buy any of it!

To say that Oprah is racist because she endorses Obama is ridiculous. I'm a white female and I did not support Hillary as the Dem nominee. I was not a fan of Hillary's when Bill was in office and my opinion of her has not changed.
A woman is no less a "feminist" because she doesn't support another woman. Feminism is about women being considered EQUAL. True feminists make their decisions based on issues, not on gender. We are not moving forward as women if we blindly support a female simply based on her gender.
Sarah Palin is doing nothing to advance the cause of feminism. It is painfully obvious that she was chosen as the Rep. VP nominee because she is a young, attractive, far right-winged woman. She was not chosen because of her extensive experience or accomplshments. She is nothing more than a "trophy" running mate. Let us not confuse that as a true step forward for women. Indeed, it is more of the same.

In reading the comments on this board, I think it is ludicrous that some of you would attempt to use race as a basis for Oprah not letting Palin on the show. She came out long ago and stated that if Obama ever decided to run for president she would endorse him. This was before Hilary Clinton or Obama himself annouced the fact that they both were running. It is also a shame that you would use race or gender to vote. Lives, country, and other issues are far more at stake, and I think some of you better get a clue. The simple fact is its her show, she has endorded Obama. And as one of the other posting indicated, Hilary was not asked to be on the show and there was no flak about that, so why all the attention when it comes to Palin? And why are Reppublican females asking for special treatment of her, you didn't give Hilary specila treatment, and she was qualifed to be president and run the country.

The rantings about Opra's denial of an interview to Palin is most rediculous! Free press whether positive or negative only serves to boost the popularity of the person in question. So all of you protesters just made Oprah richer! She already has enough money to support her lifestyle until she dies with no worries. You're wasting you time boycotting her show. Look deeper and ask yourself why she might take such a position.

Palin is a pawn on the Republican chess board. They laid in wait to see the outcome of the Democratic nomination, saw the momentum Hilary gained and said ..."Hmmm, if we nominate a woman, we can pluck all those feminist bitties away from Obama's camp and WHALAH! WE WIN!" Don't think for a moment that a woman was their desired choice. It was an effort to draw votes.

If the republicans win, Palin will be a thorn in the President's side. She is overbaring and the nomination has already gone to her head. A VP is there to support, not UPSTAGE the president. The republicans will regret choosing Palin. I was leaning toward McCain until Palin showed up. I could never see her as commander in chief should McCain die or become ill. He is quite old, you know.

Nobody said Oprah needs to offer Palin a "political platform" anyhow. She could talk about other things. From all of the other interviews I've heard that she is a very down to earth person & nobody even calls her "Mayor" or "Governor. " She isn't out to promote herself. She is someone who truly wants to help the people. This is what Oprah should see. But Oprah ONLY sees "WHITE." There are LOTS of good journalists who have been interviewing Sarah and there will be a new book coming out about her life. (Sarah didn't write it. Thankfully she isn't the self-serving type that is only about self promotion.)

Oprah is a real LIAR when she says ""There has been absolutely no discussion about having Sarah Palin on my show." Ask her again and see if she still sticks to that story. She might just be the only one telling her producers "I don't want to talk about that!"

But she sure will offer public support for Osama. He would be a real Cinderella story in that he came from a broken home and all. However, he changes his mind constantly. He can easily be swayed to align with other opinions. (He would be "Washington's Dream." ) He has been copycatting other speeches and doesn't seem to offer much if any input of his own. He is constantly being spoon fed. We don't need that! Lots of people have gone to Harvard, but that doesn't necessarily make them presidential material. And I don't think that his prince charming VP would really help our country either.

Oprah thinks that her viewers are mindless lemmings who will follow her regardless of how obviously oblivious she is to politics. Maybe some still will. But, Osama represents the Dem.'s and Sarah represents the Repubilcans. So Oprah is ignorant to think that all of her viewers are Dems. Nobody said Sarah even needs Oprah or her show to gain votes. It would just be nice to know that Oprah wasn't such an obvious racist.

I haven't watched Oprah in years. Don't care.

ITS A SHAME THAT WE CAN ONLY BE RACIAL IF WE ARE WHITE

After hearing that Oprah will not invite Gov. Palin on her show I was completely turned off by Ms. Winfrey. She has lost her "fairness factor" in favor of promoting Sen. Obama. I will no longer watch her show nor will I read her magazine. She is a big dissapointment and I hope she feels it in the wallet as it was WOMEN who played a huge part in her success.
