Obama-backer Oprah says no Sarah Palin on her TV show

Oprah Winfrey, the billionaire TV talk-show diva who is supporting the Democratic presidential nominee, says she will Oprah Winfrey supports Barack Obama for the presidency and campaigned for him but now prohibits the Republican female vice president Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska from being on her widely-watched TV shownot allow the Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin on her daily show, which is widely viewed by women.

The 44-year-old Palin is the first female nominee on a Republican presidential ticket in the party's 164-year history, though she is little-known outside Alaska, where she was elected a reform governor in 2006.

Palin, a former high school basketball star and beauty pageant contestant, is the mother of five, an outdoorswoman and part owner in her husband Todd's commercial fishing business.

This past year Oprah endorsed Barack Obama for president. It was the first time she bAlaska Governor Sarah Palin the first female on a national Republican Party ticket in historyecame publicly involved in politics.

Oprah emceed numerous rallies for the freshman Democrat senator in key caucus and primary states, drawing large crowds, donations, media coverage and many new volunteers. She also hosted a lucrative fundraiser at one of her homes, near Santa Barbara. But she has so many we can't count 'em.

Oprah's political involvement, as noted previously by...

...The Ticket, hurt her in TV ratings, though she remains clearly the most-watched such show.

Many commentors on Ticket items expressed resentment that Winfrey, who made her fortune off appealing to women, would desert the first serious female candidate to vie for her party's nomination, Hillary Clinton, another Democrat, in favor of a male candidate, Obama. She also did not have Clinton on her program during the campaign.

TMZ, the widely-read celebrity website, asked Winfrey about having Palin on her program to describe her life and views to other American women.

In a post earlier today, TMZ said Winfrey replied, "There has been absolutely no discussion about having Sarah Palin on my show."

According to TMZ, Winfrey also said: "At the beginning of this presidential campaign when I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates."

Winfrey also said she would "love" to have the Republican candidate on her show, but only after the Nov. 4 election, which pits the Illinois Democrat Obama against Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain.

Winfrey has had Obama on her program two previous times, in January 2005 and again in the fall of 2006 shortly before he announced his presidential candidacy.

What do Ticket readers think? Is this fair? Would you watch an Oprah show with Palin and/or Obama? Do you still watch Oprah's program in the first place?

If you guys watch politics 24/7, 365, you would know EASILY that access to Obama before he announced his candidacy, when he announced his candidacy, and for about the first 8 weeks after he announced his candidacy, he gave very limited interviews, and as a reporter, you would feel special to get one. Current president Bush has done the same. Hillary Clinton has done the same for a short time.

Obama has been preparing for a campaign run since 2002, and on the campaign for over a year. Even so, he too needed time to learn areas that he was weak on, so his access to the media was limited. Palin is doing the same, getting synchronized with McCain's policies.

On a different topic: why is it that so many of the liberal comments on this website include vicious attacks on the intelligence of conservatives and/or suggest they are less than sophisticated due to the positions they have on issues??? Why not just argue the issues? Maybe because those who don't are NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE ISSUES IN D E P T H ??? !!! Bingo. So all we have on this site is talking points of the two parties.

Your right ""she can have who ever she wants on her show. It doesn't matter to me because I''ll never watch it again! What a hypocritical Bigot.

BOYCOTT OPRAH! Yeah it's her show -- but Bill O'Rielly's show is his show. He has proven to be FAIR and Balanced. I supposed that is the difference between a real journalist and simply a talk show host....

BTW just wondering...if she is not putting her on for political reasons -- why has NObama been on twice??

OPRAH loves America? I think she has proven to love her America--she is a racist because her of past actions...this just proves the point more.

If Oprah hasn't had any candidates on her show since they declared to run, why should she now invite Palin? Doesn't make any sense.

Do all of you Oprah-apologists actually believe that she and Obama didn't work it out for him to appear on her show just BEFORE he announced his candidacy? They planned it so that they could use the very excuse that they are using today:

"Obama appeared on my show BEFORE he announced his presidential candidacy."

Yes, Oprah, we know. You plan well, but you're not fooling anyone!

I wish Oprah would have Sarah on. Watching Sarah try to evade legitimate questions would be great. But she really can't help it. As a woman, I know how she got where she is. She's cute. Really mean, but cute. Cute, but not beautiful. Beauty would come from within and she does not have that.

That's ok. She will have to answer in the end for all the nastiness she has done. Women, we have all known people like her - relying on her cuteness to win arguments and get her way. She won an election as Mayor of a very small town in Alaska. That propelled her to Governor, and then VP? Yikes, this makes no sense.

I would rather see someone who has some academic credentials and knows what the heck is going on with the constitution and foreign policy matters. This is not Sarah! She is a self-proclaimed hockey mom and really fits that role. I'm not being sexist. I'd say the same thing about a guy who proclaimed to be an average hockey dad and then wanted to be VP.

You state that Oprah hasn't had any of the Presidential candidates on her show during the election cycle. Why should she invite Palin then? Because she's a woman. Give me a break.

Tell Palin to go on Faux News. It is the equivalent of Oprah's show--an entertainment show.

I would not watch Palin if she were to go on Oprah. She is diametrically opposed to what I believe in.

I am not an Oprah fan, but I don't detest her either. A racist she is not. THis is coming from an African American who feels that Oprah's show pretty much caters to a white America. She has picked her candidate. IF Obama were white, then no one would call her racist, they would just think she is slacking on the "women empowerment" movement. She should not be the Guru on this issue. Read the candidate's campaign websites, research their backgrounds and accomplishments, listen to the upcoming debates and then make an informed decision.

Ok yes she is allowed to be a woman and support a man. Come on this is the first year a woman has made the ticket. But for someone in the direct media to not be open to let Susan share her side, is rude, and shows no character at all! Yes this is her show but for the election of our nations rulers, there should be more of an open ground. I truely believe she should lose her tv show. Susan Palin is the Vice Presidential nominee, and that shows true disrespect. I hope Mc Cain and Palin get in to the WHITE House, then they can silently laugh while making changes to our country that celebrity Obama could never give. I used to like Oprah, NOT ANYMORE.

Oprah doesn't want Palin on her show - Palin might go after Oprah for using her manipulative power over women to tell them to vote for Barack.

Who cares? It's not like the McCain camp will ever allow Sarah Palin to actually be interviewed by anyone!!! They are keeping her in hiding and sticking to canned speeches. Hmm.....

Oprah can have anyone on her show that she chooses. And we have choices, too.
Join me in boycotting her show and her advertisers!

Most shows are designed to please their viewers. But not hers, obviously!

Such astonishing racism and ignorance from white readers and viewers. The issue is not Oprah, it's about the cynical selection of a patently under qualified Vice Presidential candidate. Ms. Palin may be a fine mother and small town governor, but she was selected to stir up precisely the kind of culture war that you seem to be having on this site. Please, step back and focus on the real issues. Our country is in serious trouble. We need a PRESIDENT who will take our Foreign and Domestic policies seriously and not run a campaign that resembles the Jerry Springer Show. Do you really want someone so completely unqualified in the 2nd most powerful job in the country? This is the real world. These are our bodies that are uninsured. These are our husbands and wives that are unemployed. These are our children dying in Iraq--our constitution, our promise not to torture. This is NOT television.

She can appear on OW's show after the election, what is wrong with that?

This is ridiculous. Oprah can support who she wants. This is a country that grants us free speech. Oprah has had white candidates on her show before and she has has black candidates. Is every white woman that supported Obama over Clinton a racist? No. Any time a strong black woman uses her voice America calls her a racist or a sexist. Is it not possible being from Illinois herself that she actually believes in Obama?

I agree with Oprah. I frankly think Palin is a disgrace to serious women in this country, and I am insulted that the GOP thinks they can get women's vote simply by putting up a woman, an unqualified woman, and an embarrassment.

Oprah is a jerk, I would never watch her show anyways. when Palin becomes Vice President she should just laugh in Oprah's face and never except an invitation to her show.

B.E. Note:
Gov. Palin is out to prove that she not only viscous dog (a pit bull). But, a woman who can crack that glass ceiling that Oprah built of women to surround Senator Obama.
It seems that Gov. Palin feels that no matter what the great and powerful Oprah Winfrey is no match for her. The rumor reports from various media source are Gov Palin are super angry with Oprah for not giving her equal time on her show. It seems that a Governor who have no qualifications for anything but lip service is out to take on two of the most powerfulness females in the United States. Oh! By the way Governor Palin need to also understand before she takes a bite out of those ladies? Oprah may just be one of the most powerfulness women in the world and the last thing she may remember is the R&B song “Who Let The Dogs Out.”. It is time to stop with the stupid personal attacks and time to read a good book on how to help the people of the United States with our economic woes. Mainly, reassure our mothers, fathers and siblings that their family members will be coming home soon to a less problem free America. The people troubling issues should be the agenda, not who have a skirt or pants on, cracking glass ceilings, pit bulls or TV shows. I hope this election will get back on track for everyone sake. God bless America and May God bless all our citizens who Is not for racism, hate or willful destruction of life and property against our citizens.

No Palin....now or ever.

Palin should go on Meet the Press. They won't say tell her no. If Palin is trying to avoid the media that will become a huge issue. She is obligated to make the Sunday Morning talk shows and tell the American people why they should vote for her. Obama, Biden, Clinton and all the other political figures give long interviews . She must also debate a seasoned politician like Biden. McCain has the same problem. He wants to wiggle out of debating. You got to do it. How many debates did the democrats have? Almost 100. This woman is bad news. Why do the republicans select these losers to run?

For decades I listened to Oprah's words of encouragement to all women, followed up by a hefty dose of her own action to improve her life as well as other women. Now she has dropped the ball....She sold out to a man.... How typical and how sad for our young female generation. For the first time in our country's history we had two women running for the White House, and Oprah chose to ignore both of them.

Oprah can have who the hell she wants on her show. She didn't have Obama on her show after he announce he was running for President. So why would she have Palin on her show. Yall kill me with this PALIN POWER crap. She's the biggest hypocrit. McCain is talking so much about Change now after he mocked Obama. Next thing you know Palin will be wearing pant suits. She's such the evanglistic candidate. But yet her TEEN daughter got pregnant..Especially after she preaches abstinence and is against premarital sex. Her Bristol ever heard of condoms? Hypocrits.

Oprah is racist???? This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard...LOL ...In a course of a month I can count on 1 hand how many black guests she has on the show. Palin is a DISGRACE to AMERICANS!!!! This issue is not BLACK or WHITE...IT IS ABOUT MORALS AND VALUES!!!!! OPRAH does not agree with what she stands for, so it is OPRAH's show so she calls the shots. See, Oprah has choices, but women like Palin want to take choices away from being a woman!!!!! Do your research... Oprah was raped and had an abortion...FOOLS like PALIN want to take that RIGHT to CHOOSE AWAY....... Women who think thhat PALIN is for us are stupid. Palin wants us to raise our families disgustingly like her. If my 17 year old daughter was pregnant, I would let HER and the CHILD's father CHOOSE what they want to do. If it is considered murder, then GOD ALMIGHTY will deal with HER ...NOT some pampered beauty queen soccer mom. For all these women out her that are stupid enough to support Palin you just don't get it!!!!! Women like her will always keep us barefoot, pregnant, and in the kitchen... Instead of worrying about having babies....we should want our daughters to be wise enought to make good decisions.... We should support HIGHER EDUCATION for our daughters and want them to be successful. The AVERAGE AMERICAN teenage mom does not finsh college. Non college graduates will make approximately $1 MILLION less in their life time than college graduates. Her daughter is not of an average American family... she is not in an average income home. PALIN and those like her should not have the right to CHOOSE our daughter's and son's futures . Middle America is truely going to SUFFER once MCCAIN gets in office.... HOW CAN U SUPPORT MCCAIN WHEN HIS WIFE WEARS $300,000.00 in one night....MOST OF THE PEOPLE READNG THIS WILL NOT MAKE THAT AMOUNT IN 5 YEARS!!!!! TO MCCAIN MIDDLE AMERICA ARE PEASANTS !!!! HE IS NOT TRYING TO PROTECT US< HE IS TRYING TO PROTECT HIS SPECIAL IINTEREST GROUPS..... MCCAIN PAILIN ADMIN WILL KEEP THIS COUNTRY IN DEBT AND BROKE!!!! I was in the US ARMY and I LOVE BEING an AMERICAN!!!!! THE ONLY TERRORISTS that we should be aware of is our government!!!!!! WE are KILLING ourselves and our sons and daughters by continuing in this war.

PLUS HOW IS MCCAIN/PALIN going to fix the economy?????? That is a mystery ..LOL That's because he doesn't care because it doesn't affect him or his family...he doesn't even know how much gas costs!!!!!! AMERICA is so funny.......I say take a chance with the black man......this goes out to my white brothers and sisters.....ALL BLACK PEOPLE are NOT ANGRY...WE DO NOT WANT REPARATIONS...WE are NOT all Al Sharpton or Jesse JAckson....We are not all on welfare or looking for handouts!!!!!!!!Actually if either one of the two I just mentioned ran for president, I would just move to CANADA!!!!!! Many of us are college educated AMERICANS that LOVE THIS COUNTRY!!!!! we want AMERICA to PROSPER.....WE WANT THE AMERICAN DREAM....I have had the pleasure of serving my country and graduating from a FOUR YEAR college..... I am not on welfare and I SUPPORT AMERICA!!!!!!!!

Totally fair. Oprah can do whatever she wants its HER TV show. Besides as she said she has not had any candidate thus far on her show has she? Case closed.

Oprah has made a big mistake by not interviewing Sarah Falin. It either shows that she is anti-white or anti-strong women in the sense that it conflicts with her own self-serving ideas.

Let's get to the point that we all do what is best for the country.

I don't understand why you people have so much HATE.
When I watched the democratic convention people of all colors were holding hands. At the Republican convention the more Obama was destroyed (not on his policy position but on character) the more happy this non diverse crowd was. I an American/Israeli did not understand that. Specially that I understand what ethnic group against ethnic group can do to a people a country and the world.
And I certainly do not understand the HATE on this blog. Is Oprah a journalist? Isn't it Her show? has she the right to believe in her own principles and abide by them?
And I don't understand the LIES on this blog. If you are not sure just do not say n e thing.
Oprah will be fine regardless of all this hate, will be rich black and fine. Sarah Palin will also be fine. So please people stop making this about race.

Gorgi is a shill, Stands right out.

As far as O'Reilly being fair, give me a break. What self-respecting candidate would appear on his show? Obama promised him at some point he would appear, and he kept his promise - that takes courage. O'Reilly had one of his largest viewer audience with his appearance too, so don't talk about fairness.

The Repos are keeping the Palin dame out of sight because when push comes to shove, she cannot talk about issues without attacking anyone or playing 'hockey' mom. Why should Oprah lower the standards of her show - except for a few rapid Palin fans, I don't think her ratings will be affected.

I think its a crock! I have never watched her show for just this reason. The same reason I will not vote for Obama..."They are too good for everyone else". Sure she has given stuff away and helped whoever get whatever but that is not what makes a person. I am totally disgusted and do hope that Obama losses. I can NOT imagine his wife being our first lady. Ick! They have both put down this country and do not deserve to run it.
Oprah, you need to pay your mother's clothing bill before you start denying respectful people a spot on your show. Have you seen Obama on the O'Riley show? He is on there again this week...poor sap can not even answer a yes or no question.

Why don't you just tell it like it is Oprah. Your racist for one and you know that your " out classed" with Sarah Palin. You didn't mind having that communist Obama on your show. Why don't you be fair and give Sarah Palin the same opportunity you gave Barack Obama?

Give me a break! Even if Oprah wanted her on her show, do you honestly believe the republican machine would let her appear. They are not going to allow her to be interviewed by anyone. That fact speaks volumes. What are they so afraid of!?!

This discussion is moot - Vanna White Palin isn't doing interviews. Oprah would probably be much tougher than any of the regular media - I doubt Palin could even handle it.

Who cares what Oprah has to say? And isn't it sad that people are actaully influenced by what Oprah has to say. Whether Palin wins or loses, I hope she does not give Oprah the time of day after the election.

It is Oprah's right to once again excercise racial loyalty. After all it has never been about democracy.

What a silly, limited, juvenile blog. Oprah's just one billionaire. And all the rest of them - Murdoch and his ilk - are Republicans backing McCain, funneling money through the likes of Jack Abramoff. Instead of calling each other names and wishing the world were a simple duality, step back and ask which kind of biillionaire is more likely to keep up the war on the middle class that has driven this country into a ditch.

I am Latina I was admire to Oprah but with this refused to Sarah-- clear racism for her no more ....so, I think Oprah is scare to listen in Palin’s answers that, she wants women need recover their morals and values because black women are lost this qualities all over the country always they are in their mouth talk about sex in !! a bad ways!!- !! never educationa !!

Sarah Palin is not qualified for the position she has been appointed. If you are truly a woman advocate, you would know that she is being used by the Republican Party. She attended 5 colleges in 6 years. She is promoting creationism in schools which trashes anyone, especially a women's future in the sciences, which we as Americans are trailing other countries pathetically. She has no experience in international affairs, let alone volunteerism in the US or abroad, which OPRAH has it all over on her and 99% of Republicans. Anyone who believes that we are safer and it's all about the terrorists have been drinking more than their share of cool aid. Mc Cain was disliked by the Republican party and now his inability to make a sound decision has led him to exploit an uneducated and clueless woman. Shame on you all. Oprah is right!!!!!!!

Don't tell me that Oprah isn't a racist. Years ago, I saw one of her shows, and she had some psychologist or whatever on, and Oprah and he were talking about how much smarter brown eyed people were than blue eyed people. They had people calling in from all over the United States talking about their really smart brown eyed kids and their really dumb blue eyed kids. I thought that it was some sort of farst from the beginning, and then at the end, they revealed to the audience that it was indeed a trick so that blue eyed people could see how 'people of color' felt when the public called them dumb. I haven't cared for her since then. She has proven herself to be a phony over and over again, but these silly white women kept coming back time after time with google eyes and thunderous applause everytime Oprah came on stage. Oprah has always tooted her own horn and she always made sure everyone knew about it whenever she did something nice for anyone else. She is a true phony if ever there was one.

I have watched Oprah faithfully for 22 years. She has now lost my viewership forever. Obama has been on her show twice, along with Al Gore, Bill Clinton, and John Edwards. I have watched with an open mind thinking that she will eventually even the score with political guests of opposing views, but clearly her personal bias rules, which I suppose is fair - it is her show. I, AT LAST, have the possibility of a woman I can relate to as a working mother, and one who shares my values and beliefs representing me in the White House along with John McCain, a true Patriot who I believe will keep my family safe. Yet, Oprah, another woman who has been a part of my life for over half of my lifetime, doesn't get it. Her loss. It was nice knowing you, Oprah.

palin is the punch-line to the joke that is the republican party. her nomination is a insult to women everywhere.

Ms Lou... silly lady. McCain invited Obama to numerous debates... all denied until recently... which are the 3 required debates.

And don't you worry... after the election trail that has been planned.. Gov Palin will be on other news.

No need to go on Oprah... she is after all, has turned the page on women years ago.

The show is about empowering woman but some judgment on these woman should be made. Palin is a farce and a shame for woman and woman's rights.
The Republican Convention resembles a football field,
Anyone that thinks can understand that Palin is a scary person that should not have any short of power.
As for our Maker, all of you believers should know that he is not a hater as you portray him that will revenge on everyone that does not agree with you and kill Polar bears for oil.
No person with any influence should support this farce of a woman, and thank god Oprah is taking such an open stand on this.

Very disappointing and blatantly obvious Oprah. You have let your own personal politics ride above the interests of your viewers. Disappointing indeed.

First of all Oprah is a great journalist. How do you think she built such a big empire and so much fame? Over twenty years and she's still going strong.

Its Oprahs show so it should be her choice to put whomever she wants on her show. We all know Oprah is an advocate for women and womens issues but its understandable. If you're already endorsing Obama why have other candidates on the show and advertise for them. THAT'S STUPID!!!

Palin gets endorsed just fine online. If anything she needs to stay home and take care of her pregnant daughter and her family. Kids their age and under these circumstances can become very stressed. I hope after she losses the election she'll make more time for to focus on her family. Although this election is monumental the RNC had all week to prove its case to me as an independent voter and they didn't . Wish them the best but Barack and Biden 2008

Oprah has worked for many years for her position and she should be able to use it as she wishes. She is a successful BLACK woman who made it against the odds.

I'm sure the basis for her support of Obama is because he's black. Why not? I'm sure there are many people not voting for him because he is black.

Palin is a farce anyway. She's not a real candidate. She's a tool of the Republican party to pull votes from Obama.

VOTE BLACK.

I applaud Oprah for her "endorsement" of Obama. First and foremost she has always put her love of her black race out for the world to see, even when those who watch her the most (White America) choose to not believe that. Oprah believes for the progression of ALL people, especially those that are down trodden, and oppressed, and yes that includes her beloved black people. Believe what you want, but America is still a most racist society...ALTHOUGH we have truly come a long way. But I know that you are to believe what you will believe, and what your parents and environment have taught you to believe. Regardless of whether you want to realize it or not.

For those of non-color you will NEVER truly understand the power of this moment in AMERICAN HIStory, regardless of whether you believe in Obama, and/or he wins or not. Offline she has pronounced her endorsement of Barack, but since the actual campaign she has not mixed her political beliefs with her show--her bread and butter, because as she has blatantly stated, she will not mix politics of this magnitude with her show. She is smart...she does not want to piss off her beloved viewers.

As stated in earlier comments, Oprah is about empowerment. Perhaps had Obama not been running maybe she would have had Hilary on the show. However, you can forget about Palin being on. I mean seriously, she is a joke, and Oprah has never been about blatant hipocrisy when it comes to things of this intellectual nature. Besides, Palin would not get on anyway unless it was pre-scripted--as she is a fake. You'll see for yourselves at the Vice Presidential debates. If you truly believe in your heart of hearts that the Republicans decided to endorse a female candidate in 2008, with no regards to the fact that Obama did not choose Hilary as a running mate, then please continue to wear your blinders and keep America a racist and bigoted society.

The truth hurt doesn't it...

Oh no! Oprah is going to deny the Bon Bon snarfing house wives of America the opportunity to see a beautiful fit, intelligent, strong and self made woman in contrast to Oprah herself (the queen of the Bon Bon set)?

Say it ain't so!
