Sarah Palin lauds Tina Fey, perhaps because she didn't hear a word of 'SNL' skit

September 17, 2008 |  3:57 pm

Sarah Palin, in a Q&A with Fox News Channel's Sean Hannity that airs tonight, stands by her man -- John McCain -- in the recent dust-up over his comment about the “fundamentals” of the economy.

And, just as he has since (in the view of most) ill-advisedly uttering that remark, she doesn't mince words in discussing the turmoil that has rocked Wall Street this week. Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin answers questions from Fox News Channel's Sean Hanniity

But Hannity elicits perhaps the most intriguing answer from Palin when he wraps up the first of two interview segments by asking if she had seen Tina Fey unveil her satirical impersonation of the Republican vice presidential nominee on this past weekend's "Saturday Night Live."

Our own Dish Rag blog had reported Tuesday that Palin, who was on a campaign plane at the time, had watched and, through a spokeswoman, declared it "quite funny, particularly because she once dressed up as Tina Fey for Halloween."

Palin elaborates for Hannity: She watched, but she didn't listen. That's because she had "the volume all the way down." Later, she reiterates: "Again, didn't hear a word she said..."

Still, she offers a rave: "I thought it was hilarious. I thought she was spot on."

The resemblance between the two is, of course, remarkable -- and apparently enough to regale Palin. But one can't help but wonder if the Alaska governor would have offered the "hilarious" plaudit if she had heard the comedian's words.

There were barbs aplenty aimed at getting laughs, such as the Fey/Palin take on the cause of global warming: "I believe it's just God hugging us closer."

Time magazine's the Page blog has numerous excerpts from Palin's chat with Hannity (though not her review of the "SNL" routine).

Tina Fey's funny, and the majority of viewers take her schtick, as the "Sarah Palin" look-a-like, with the humorous grain of salt -- I think these kinds of skits are a great complement to the person that is being targeted -- I think Sarah Palin is a good sport and demonstrated it by passing it off as the joke it is... Everyone should know by know that SNL is sold out to Barry Obama and they can only do more good than harm by expressing their choice for him, and dig at the "other-gal." So, lighten up and enjoy it the way Sarah did, she obviously has the most experience as a Chief Executive and the more I hear from her, the more I like her.

Peace

Seems like her approach to everything--watching without the sound. That explains SO much.

Hm ...

Watches her impersonation, but with the sound off.

Sure.

And Clinton didn't inhale ...

The Palin interview and the McCain phone call by Lisa Nova.

Be prepared to LOL

DIDO what he said!

" So, lighten up and enjoy it the way Sarah did, she obviously has the most experience as a Chief Executive and the more I hear from her, the more I like her."

Hmmmm...

If you spend 3 years as a community organizer growing your organization from a staff of 1 to 13 and your budget from $70,000 to $400,000, then become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new African American voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, then spend nearly 8 more years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, becoming chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, then spend nearly 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of nearly 13 million people, sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, some say is woefully inexperienced.

If you spend 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, then spend 20 months as the governor of a state with 650,000 people, then you've got the most executive experience of anyone on either ticket, are the Commander in Chief of the Alaska military and are well qualified to lead the nation should you be called upon to do so because your state is the closest state to Russia.

When Katie Couric interviews Sarah Palin false fingernails will fly. If Couric can nail Palin (and thus sink McCain) she'll be the next Woodward & Berstein. She'll be able to dine out on how she got Palin for the next 20 years. The network will give her a $20 million raise. Couric won't look down her nose at Palin like Charles Gibson did. She won't have to. She'll just ask the same question about Plain's emails five times in a row.

Sarah Palin watched herself parodied on a nationally televised television show, and had the sound off? I don't believe her. Had she admitted to hearing the script, she would have opened herself up to questions about the content.

If her story is true, there is no wonder they don't want her talking. The woman is an idiot if she is indeed that incurious.

n a few weeks we will make a choice that will decide our future.
This time the stakes are much higher then most people could imagine
I would like to point out some things You may already know with a new perspective.

I follow a economist named bob proctor who has called the top and bottom of every market crash since the 70s correctly.
He perfectly predicted the current real estate market meltdown ,and the picture he paints about what will happen in the next couple years
Is terrifying. He thinks it could get worse then the great depression.
Banks in the US are going under one after the other. Country wide the largest morgage bank in the world
Bear Stearns and Lehman brothers , and Merrill Lynch which are 3 out of the top 5 wall street firms.
And now Fanny and Freddy which hold 50 percent of the home loans in the United States.

The goverment took them over because they are essentially bankrupt.
If they didn't the entire financially system would virtually shut down, the stock market would crash
And we would suffer beyond what any of us have seen before
The future of these companies will fall into the hands of our next president
And all of our economic future depends on them reorganizing these companies right.

Lehman, Merill Lynch, and Bear Sterns have survived for over 150 years and survived even the great depression
They are important because the are the biggest engines of growth in america and
they are connected to almost everything.
The last time the real estate market numbers looked this bad was during
The great depression and real estate often leads the way into major economic recessions.

One out of 10 Americans is somewhere in the foreclosure process.
During the last 8 years the average person saw there salary drop instead
Of increase. These are all facts no one will argue with.
The truth is we are only in the start of the worst economy we have seen in our generation
and a very real possibility of another depression.

Bush just like Mcain doesn't understand the economy.
That not just my opinion its his own words. Not only does he not understand how to fix it
He does not understand exactly what is broken. Its no surprise that he doesnt. The people that make up these
securities use complex math models very few people understand.
They are basically bundles of thousand of loans some good and some bad that are then given rules based on quantitiative
math. It will take the best and brightest minds in the world to get us out of this, and the same things bush and mcain have done for the last 8 years
Have not worked so far and wont work in the future.

If you do what you have always done then you will do get what you have always __________
90 percent of the time they have voted the same.

Please don't just take my word for it Start to read up on some of this yourself. MSN money, elliot wave and, bloomberg
Have tons of articles That prove we are in the heading into one of the worst economies any one has ever seen.

So why are the polls even close then ?

The chairman of mcains campaign recently said that people don't vote on issues
they vote on a personality composite which means. He is trying to sell personality instead
of results.

He believes people will vote against there own self interests.
Lets teach him we are smarter then that and elect the ticket that can
bring us back from the brink of a economic abyss.
If you think i am kidding do your own home work you will find
We are at the start of this mess not the end.

Mcain admits in the year 2008 he cannot use a computer even to send email
Its almost impossible then he will understand the complex securities such as cdos that are destroying wall street
and the home values on your street.

We are not bulletproof america it time to wake up and hold these people accountable.

How many people that you go out and have drinks with would you really want running the country?
Lets stand up and fight for our country now while it will still make a difference
Lets elect Obama Biden 08

When sarah Palin is through with katie couric. Katie will ask herself what hit her. Palin will show up katie and make katie look down

emails and photos of your children being hacked and circulated on the web....DIRTY tricks by the democrats...what if they went after obamas little angels...I am sure the Palin family can make it. Heck if her daughter had the courage to tell the folks she was pregnant this family can handle anything the jealous mans campaign can dish out. I hope change is coming via the lady from Alaska. She has common sense...she know what it is to work and she does it for the right reason as McCain has all his life. Obama has ads that he has never sent an email...the reason he is physically unable as a result of FIGHTING for our Country. A country where One should show respect by placing your hand over your heart during OUR National Anthem. Is Obama unable to show this type of respect because he served one to many freebies. I hope the winds dont blow where Obama calls out to his god and fellow muslims and we suffer and fall from the inside. Just a thought

God save America from Barrack Obama and Nancy Pelosi. It will be an America of no experience at the top, no oil, no God and yes, playing the race card!

Why won't you take her at her word? if she said she didn't hear anything, than perhaps you should just believe her. She's an idiot b/c she had the show on in the background, while she did something different? C'mon, it's not like this woman hasn't experience the limelight before! She's a Governor! If you or I had been on SNL, of course we'd have the volume up, but in her case it's not unbelievable that she didn't. Lighten up!

Sarah Palin is tougher than anything the bias liberal press or the Dems can throw at her! I hope that we don't find out that attended Rev. Wright's church for twenty yars, because the main stream press will crucify her for that!

How very strange! She was watching SNL with the volume down. Hhmmmmmmm. And, she thought it was hilarious! I really got to try that sometime when I am watching Leno or Letterman during their monologues. I just might find it funnier. But really and seriously, I doubt it. I think she was not being truthful on such a simple matter. She does not show a lot of character. What is she afraid of? Yes, it's satire toward her, but her strategies to deflect it or confront it is lacking. She is a rookie.

"Sarah Palin is tougher than anything the bias liberal press or the Dems can throw at her! I hope that we don't find out that attended Rev. Wright's church for twenty yars, because the main stream press will crucify her for that!"

There is a thing called the "recent past," in which Barack Obama was on the cover of Time, Newsweek, et al for quite awhile getting hammered over Wright and other things during the primaries. Palin wasn't known then. Now it's her turn. Barack attended a church with a minister with questionable views. But he never stood on stage as Palin did and made bizarre statements like how state infrastructure was God's will. If you saw a news clip of Taliban soldiers talking about how a road was God's will... Come on. Get real. Palin needs to be dissected on this. So far, her religious views may represent the honorable Reverend Hagee--they don't represent me or most of the people in this country.

Why do republicans feel it's only dems that totally disagree with John McBush and Palin? Republicans are pissed with McBush and his "country first" VP pick. Just watching McBush give speeches pains me deeply. Absorbing the absolutely comical rhetoric being spewed by the super deregulator turned superman of change is an utter side-splitter. McBush's only economic experience is constantly repeating, "the economic fundamentals are sound", "the economic fundamentals are sound", "the economic fundamentals are sound". Wow, just typing it that many times has made me a believer also - I think I'll go to a bank and apply for a mortgage now.

Sarah shows shes a good sport by saying Tina Fey
did a good job. She even said it was hilarious. Shes definitely smart to say the sound was turned down. If any of you would be in her shoes you would have said the same thing because if you did say you heard it,you know you would have to listen to hateful putdowns just as she would have to.
Its really something how most liberals hate her for what she stands for..fighting for country and the people in it, love of babies and people of all ages and respect for things that are basicaly good, not spewing hate...I guess that people who dont feel like that...well..I guess it just must grate on the nerves.

Sarah was a great sport! She can roll with the punches and knows there are more important things in life than a jab by Tina Fey. Of course it was funny. I don't see any reason she should have turned up the volume...why? Like SNL is some sort of super show everybody HAS to watch? LOL
Sarah is going to be a GREAT VP!!

McCain/Palin '08!!!!

We thought it was hilarious too, which is why we added it to our list of women who have taken a stance against Palin: http://www.canow.org/canoworg/2008/09/we-arent-the-on.html

SNL is worth ignoring...they have been irrelevant for so long. Palin is just staying above the fray. If she complained then you all would criticize that as well.

If professional investment banks, full of supposedly educated professionals can't even determine value with their derivative investments do you seriously think Obama "the chosen one" would have been insightful enough to avert disaster. This economic crisis has been 10 to 15 years in the making....covering multiple administrations. There will be debt liquidation, but the credit markets are plenty broad with plenty of solvent creditors. Seriously people get a grip...

Maybe the Obama can take some of the $845 billion he wants to peel off for the Global Poverty Act to feather the nest of 3rd world tyrants and keep it here to help deal with these bailouts.

The more this Democrat watches Palin the more she loves her.

I think it's hilarious how the Obama people want to attack her experience, when clearly PALIN has MORE EXPERIENCE than Obama.

Our nation has so many issues right now, the last thing we need is to hand it over to Obama the least experienced candidate in American History. That would be like asking for a third Bush term.

So my family will join the MILLIONS OF DEMOCRATS AGAINST OBAMA and vote NO OBAMA in November.

Just a couple of little comments.
First to DesignMission; Obama did not sponsor 131 bills. In fact he has contributed very little to anything in the Senate. Experience aside, the fundamental, and most important difference between the two, is that Palin believes in the democratic principles that have nurtured the growth of the United States since the beginning. Obama believes in the socialist/communist way of government that removes power from the people and places it into the hands of the government who decides what is best for you and then takes your money, and your freedom and your voice, to do with as they see fit.

And for John; McCain predicted the downfall of the housing/loan industry to the exact details 3 years ago. Also, McCain doesn't do email because his injuries keep him from typing, not because he is too stupid to figure it out.

The only people who would survive an Obama presidency with their finances intact would be those that he puts on the government hand-out for me to support. His chief financial advisors are the men who led Lehman and AGI. . .?? Yeah, those would be the people to take financial advice from.

My money is on the guy who said he will put an end to sending billions of dollars to other countries for no reason at all, not on the guy who plans to create enough programs to drown us in debt forever.

I believe that Palin didn't listen to the SNL parody, otherwise she wouldn't have found it to be funny. What is more frightening than her possibly lying about the sound, is she voluntarily chose not to hear it. How dumb is that? If someone was doing a skit on me, I would certainly want to know what was being said. I would want to be able to joke about it with others and defuse the comments. The more I learn about Palin, the more scared I am for our country. She appears to have a "head in the sand" mentality, just like those who want to vote for her, since they apparently ignore the blatant lies she keeps making.
