Palin may have left Alaska, but she's not giving up her moose roots

September 5, 2008 |  2:24 pm

John McCain and Sarah Palin began their post-convention tour of battleground states today in the small Wisconsin town of Cedarburg. But although Palin's biggest task in the coming months will be trying win over the lower 48, she's not about to abandon her Alaska roots.

Moose

How can we tell?

Follow the tracks. Moosetracks, that is.

That's the ice cream flavor she chose when she, McCain, and Cindy McCain made a stop at a Cedarburg sweets shop before their campaign appearance. The new vice presidential candidate ordered a large scoop of moosetracks -- vanilla ice cream with peanut butter cups and fudge -- served in a waffle cone.

Palin's affinity for all things moose is well documented. Indeed, the Republicans seem to be touting her moose-hunting skills as one of her qualifications for vice president.

During his GOP convention speech, Fred Thompson called her, "the only nominee in the history of either party who knows how to properly field dress a moose ... with the possible exception of Teddy Roosevelt."

And Cindy McCain, in her speech, said, “John has picked a reform-minded, hockey-mommin', basketball-shooting, moose-hunting, salmon-fishing, pistol-packing mother of five for vice president."

Palin, it seems, likes moose best when they're on her plate.  She has said in the past that her favorite meal is moose stew. (We found a recipe here).

Her propensity for hunting has alarmed some environmental activists. "Her philosophy from our perspective is cut, kill, dig and drill," John Rosenberg, the director of the Alaska Wildlife Alliance, told the Associated Press.

Some Republicans would take that as a compliment.

BREAKING NEWS UPDATE: Palin wasn't the only politician cooling off with ice cream in Cedarburg today. Sen. McCain also had a scoop. His order? Watermelon sorbet. We're not quite sure what that reveals, but we welcome interpretations.

She enjoys killing moose. Enjoying killing looks like sadistic to me. Dictionary: Sadism - any enjoyment in being cruel.

Yep...Obama would have tried to "organize" or maybe come up with a way to tax this critter.

Oh well maybe next election. Dems will have to wait ANOTHER 4 years. Even with Bush ratings completely tanked, they still can't win.

WOW,

I feel the tolerance, acceptance and understanding! Hunting and fishing makes you bad, you might not like a large number of people in your own party then. http://www.democrats.org/page/community/group/HuntersFishermanandEnviornmentalistsUnit this is a link from the DNC web page enjoy.

Cooking for your family makes you bad? I know it is not a very liberated thing to do, but it does retain some family values.

The truth is democrats would be swooning over her if she was on her side of the fence. She is not, so they attack her with vile, rude, elementary school like jabs.

I am glad she is on my side and I will enjoy watching her debate Biden...

Palin may be toting her affinity for moose, but she can spare those of us who are aware that she supported and continues to support the ariel killing of wolves in Alaska-animals that are still borderline endangered. She is a Disneyland Alaskan who obviously doesn't really care for Alaska's wildlife. If she gets into the White House she'll be ordering apple pie, while screwing us all.

If Sarah Palin is so pro-life, why does she hunt innocent animals

Kate, A nice little positive puff piece... but tell me, what did McCain order? I find that more interesting... here is the bit you left off from the AP:

Cedarburg, WI. AP's Terence Hunt reports on the GOP nominee's ice cream of choice...

"Then McCain and his wife came up to order. The senator asked for a recommendation and then decided on watermelon sorbet."

I'd like to see Obama or Biden field dress a Moose. They probably think food grows in the refrigerator.

Palin=10, National Press = 0

You people quit picking on McCain's "Little Eskimo." (See thedailymccain.com).

It's amazing to see so many liberals more concerned about killing wolves than killing babies by abortion.

If the writer of this PR puffpiece thinks it's so cute that Palin loooves hunting moose, wait til she sees how much Palin likes shooting wolves from airplanes:

it's amazing to see so many posters horrified by the killing of wolves, moose and bears who think it's OK to kill babies by abortion.

Cut, Kill, Dig and Drill- Reminds me of what happened to planet Earth in this summer's blockbuster movie Wall•E.
It's also what happened to our economy, banking system, housing, and troops under republican leadership.

So you want to have moose for dinner? Well, get your gun and try getting a hunting lincense (as the laws have changed), shot and KILL your prize, clean it (if you know how), preserve it (you might need it) and maybe, just MAYBE you might get to eat tonight as it's getting harder to afford the food you put on your table. Maybe it's time to have somebody in power that actually understands what it takes to feed our families!!!!!

I also share your concerns, but mine is about heavy drug use at a young age. Particularly, when one partakes of a variety of drugs as Obama discussed.
Most heavy drug users rarely recall the amount and types of drug they take. There are volumes written about the long term effects and they readily available.
There are many videos of Barak Hussain Obama that illustrate the long term effect of heavy drug use by him. I won't bore anyone with the many Youtube videos but all one has to do is google Obama speaking without teleprompters and it's frightening that he will have his fingers on the button that will hurl nuclear missals all over the world. Lastly Tina, is crack use not a felony.

When we populate ourselves off this planet there wont be any babies or wolves for liberals to be concerned about or anything else for that matter Einstein.

We're at almost 7 billion now!

I think Palin should give up her moose roots when Obama gives up his mousse roots.

Is it Sarah Barracuda or Palin the Puppet?

The problem with this country is can only be fixed by severe cuts in federal spending, increases in taxation, and removing the military from places far and wide where they shouldn't be. This need to be done in the short term and not 20 years from now .To do this requires some honesty and removal of the lobbyist system.

Perhaps we should persuade her to pack in the house and bag some lobbyists and corrupt politicians. Up on the wall would be bucky the deer, elmer the elk and, larry the lobbyist.

sarah palin is a hussy and john mccain is so old they had to replace all of his organs with bionic organs because the organs he was born with by now would be dust. he would literally cough up a lung.

Quoth Hillary: ‘Over my dead body!’

I think Palin is down to earth,i hope they win this election,we finally need real people in the White House.
