John and Cindy McCain: Cars aplenty

Several weeks ago, the Ticket reported on what the candidates drive. Barack Obama, as you may recall, rolls around in a 2008 Ford Escape hybrid when he's not being ferried by the Secret Service. And John McCain likes to cruise in a 2004 Cadillac CTS, although he too is now driven everywhere by the Secret Service.

But, as Newsweek points out in its latest issue, that's not McCain's only ride.

In fact, the magazine reports that the Arizona senator and his wife, Cindy, a car enthusiast and racer, have 12 vehicles together. The Ford Escape is the only car registered to Obama and his wife, Michelle.

To be fair, only the Cadillac is registered in John McCain's name. His wife's name is on 11 vehicles. Among them: a 2008 Jeep Wrangler; a 2007 half-ton Ford pickup truck; a vintage 1960 Willys Jeep; a 2000 Lincoln; and a 2001 GMC SUV.

Don't tell Detroit, but the couple also have some foreign-brand cars, including a 2005 Volkswagen convertible and a 2001 Honda sedan. Interestingly, McCain told Detroit television station WXYZ-TV, "I've bought American literally all my life and I'm proud."

If his wife buys the cars, that could literally be true. And, of course, Honda, Toyota and others make thousands of cars in the United States.

But then again, maybe McCain just forgot. After all, if you can't recall how many houses you have, how are you supposed to remember what's in their garages?

UPDATE: This morning the Obama campaign released this commercial attacking McCain for his foreign-made cars:

Are you kidding Me? You guys are so desperate for dirt on McCain you are now lowered below low to counting how many cars the McCain's have? ROTFLMAO

This is just too funny that any newspaper would stoop that low. Who the heck cares if he has 1 car or 50? And since when do we elect a POTUS, according to how many cars he may have?? When did we STOP electing a POTUS according to his experience and records and his honesty (which McCain has proved he is very honorable) and most of all for their GOOD judgment ? Something Obama has never proved to have yet is good judgment! His terrorist friends, and his racist friends, prove that one clearly and his extreme lack of experience, not to mention his voting records that also prove he is in no way bipartisan at all. Not to mention he has BROKEN many of his campaign promises from the get go, he was against FISA before he voted for it, and his breaking his promise to take public funding, which proves he is not the least bit honest! When voters look at these candidates the first thing they should be asking themselves is what do the candidates records show, are they honest which Obama has not been at all. Who really has gone against their own party to point out the indiscretions of bad officials and who has not? Well Obama sure has not! If Obama claims to be the ONE to go after crooked officials than he lies, if he is, then why hasn’t he asked Rangel to step down? The only real and truly honest candidate is McCain and he has a record of keeping his word. Obama has no record at all and he has already proved he is nothing more than “Just Words”!

Articles like this don’t really hurt McCain, but it does hurt America, and the news source spreading this non story, just to help elect a totally dishonest, bad judgment, totally inexperienced, tax and spend liberal named Obama. People better wake up, for Obama is being elected more for his speeches that are already tainted with his broken promises than his being elected on his qualifications, voting record, his experience (which he has none) and most of all what exactly did Obama do for the people in his district as a state Senator? Facts are he did nothing. And you guys want have the nerve to bring up how many cars McCain owns?? You guys are a joke and obviously do not take electing the right man for this job too seriously. McCain and Palin both have great records where Obama has nothing. And this story is what you find news worthy? Get Real! You guys are a joke!

Ha! This new Obama talking point is so funny!!!

Old meme: Cindy McCain is rich, and has many HOUSES!

Current meme: Cindy McCain is rich, and has many CARS!

Next week's meme: Cindy McCain is rich and has many EARRINGS!

They, the media and other socialists leaning individuals, are continuously harping about McCain's houses. I have yet to hear any of them comment on how much property or other investments other politicians have. McCain had very little when he married his present wife, and if the truth was told, we would probably find that all, or most, of their wealth is in Cindy's name. Therefore, McCain would probably not have aany knowledge of her possessions. If one is doing his job as United States Senator, he has little time to keep track of what his independent wife is investing in.

The problem is that you destroy your own journalistic integrity with little jabs at the end of your article.

You made a reasonably good point but then had to go and kill it by then decrying a political affiliation.

Now, I'm all for Obama, support the campaign and will be voting that way in November but by being just more of the noise you help noone.

If you remove the last sentence from your article, it's actually a much better read. Where was your editor on this one?

Who cares how many cars the McCain's have, if you had a billion dollars you'd have 12 cars too.

I think the point is the fact that the McCain's own many houses (so many he doesn't know/remember how many), many cars and, just today, he's listed at #13 on the richest in the Congress and yet, Obama is called, by McCain and his camp, elite. Really!?!

This is just another instance of McCain saying whatever he has to say to pander to the voters. Here, he told the people of Detroit that he almost always buys American cars, when a quarter of his fleet is foreign made.

Leave John McCain alone. He is old and confused.

It's not about how many cars he has, it's about the hypocrisy he espouses.

John McCain is a bush wanna be and will continue to run this country into the ground.

God help us.

Is everyone fogetting that McCain has 7 kids...I think all are of driving age. His wife is rich and his kids are driving a honda? Aren't half the middle class kids and their parents driving cars in similar price points?
Lay off. This isn't news!

I think that people that think this is a bogus news story are missing the point. Its not about how many cars john or cindy have..its about the fact that they are calling Obama an elitist and out of touch with the working class, when they have so many houses and so many cars! Its about hos McCain stated that he buys American nearly all the time, and yet, here he is with many foreign cars etc. It about the lies that he says and the fact that he isnt honest at all. I would venture to say that he is the biggest liar in the government (oh wait, that excludes the current president and his "signing statements"). Remember, this is the man that is soo honest that he cheated on his wife for a year before divorcing her and remarrying a month later to Cindy. This is the man that hadnt ever lived in Arizona and yet, ran for Senator after he married his rich wife and she gave him the money to run a campaign. This is the man who has showed up to the senate less than every other senator! Yeah, maybe Obama only voted "present" most of the time, but he was there, listening and getting experience as a senator, while McCain didnt even bother to show up 75% of the time.....so much for honesty or integrity...he is worthless..and most of Arizona believes it too...those that arent brainwashed by his commercials know this.

You people are typical liberal cowards who won't print a direct opposing view of your precious biased reporter...Kate.

What can one expect from LA (Liberal America)...oh well!

Larry

I am considered middle class, and I have ten vehicles (including my teen daughter's 3 cars) registered and insured in my name. So what?
If you could, I bet you would.
