Michelle Obama woos the women

Michelle Obama stopped for a little visit with the Women’s Caucus this morning at the Colorado Convention Center. And she visited with the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender group on Monday. Girlfriends, they loved her!

Hours before her husband was to accept his party’s nomination, she reiterated the message she’s honed: Her most important role is mom, and women voters will make the difference in November. “We are going to need you every step of the way,” she told the Women’s Caucus. “I am going to need you.” (At a fundraiser held by the Emily’s List women's group the other day, she said, “I need you to watch my back,” a not-so-veiled reference to right-wing attacks.)

Each of the Democratic National Committee's 13 caucuses met twice this week. As you might expect from the Democrats, there is something for everyone: There are caucuses that address rural issues, disabilities, race and ethnicity (blacks, Hispanics, First Americans), youth, seniors, the faithful, veterans and military families and the full range of sexual orientations. Though the caucuses aren’t covered very much by the media hordes, they are important communication tools for the party, and a place where Democrats can bond over shared interests. And there’s always the chance someone cool will show up.

Monday, actresses Rosario Dawson and Eva Longoria spoke briefly to the Women’s Caucus. To great cheers, Longoria announced: “I’m here representing all the desperate housewives in the room!”

Axelrod? Is that you?

Let's see. My candidate is defeated -- guess I'll have to think about campaigning for yours.

I'm perfectly willing to watch Michelle's back just as much as she watched Hillary's back on the issue of sexism and the phony charges of racism from Obama's campaign.

Barack and Michelle should be ashamed to accept Hillary and Bill's support without even offering them an apology for attacking their characters. Obama is such a phony.

OBama messages is full of " hollow promises and socialist change" and I won't buy for it. What's his achievement in Congress? Empty promises and failed to deliver goodies to his home state of Illinois.

Andrew MalcolmAndrew Malcolm's immigrant parents repeatedly stressed the importance of active participation in a democracy. Early lessons included learning the alphabetical list of states by watching televised roll calls of national political conventions. That childhood exposure led to a lifelong fascination with politics, including 40-plus years of covering them and a brief stint practicing them as press secretary to Laura Bush in 1999-2000. A veteran foreign and national correspondent, Malcolm served on the Times Editorial Board and was a Pulitzer finalist in 2004. He is the author of 10 nonfiction books and father of four.
