John McCain enters Wayne's World and learns a Hollywood lesson

August 12, 2008 |  3:07 pm

When John McCain entered "Wayne's World," he quickly got a dose of Hollywood reality.

As The Ticket noted earlier today, the McCain campaign unveiled a new Web ad -- called "Fan Club" -- that continued its effort to deride Barack Obama as little more than a creation of celebrity culture.

Young women swoon over Obama's aura and "soft eyes" and liken him to Bono. All that is fine, at least legally.

But the ad may have crossed the copyright line at the end by including footage of Mike Myers and Dana Carvey doing their Wayne and Garth "We're not worthy" schtick from years past on "Saturday Night Live."

Hollywood types jumped into the fray, directing the McCain campaign to cease and desist -- and so it did.

“Apparently Mike Myers thought we weren’t worthy,” McCain spokesman Brian Rogers said in an e-mail.

McCain's camp blamed Myers for turning his "people" on the Republican.

However, Myers’ Hollywood attorney, Martin Singer, said he made no such demand and was unaware who did. Rogers said that Myers publicist raised the concern.

The re-cut ad, sans the Wayne and Garth imagery (but with the pair's trademark slogan) can be seen on the McCain website.

Plagiarizing to mislead his troupe of lemmings. John McCain is truly a man of character. A leader who inspires. Well maybe just a wannabe Boy-Scout throwing a temper tantrum because he wouldn't be voted most popular in a solitary confinement cell. Don't you just tingle with excitement at the prospect of this over the hill sad sack running for president? I don't.

I think at minimum we need a Web response to McCain's celebrity silliness....

"Who Does McCain Remind you of? A New Game for Hard Times"
http://msa4.wordpress.com/

Oh, stop it. Obama fans are showing a severe lack of humor here. Look, I'm voting for the guy, but there's no denying that some people definitely take the fascination with him too far, and do seem "touched by Obama" when they speak so reverentially of him.

I thought the McCain ad with the Frankie Valli song was pretty funny. The rest haven't really been humorous, and certainly aren't substantive, but they're nothing to get worked up over.

That said, if there's truth to "hot girls love Obama," that just means I need to spend more time at Obama rallies...

I don't know how this isn't all over the news. Did you guys see the video of that rock star who's supporting Obama?

Check this out: http://tinyurl.com/5oqpmw

John McCain continues to demonstrate he has no record to campaign on. These ads are beyond embarrassing. They are also racist...or is it a coincidence that pretty white women fawn over Obama?

Maybe McCain is upset that he is no longer in the spotlight. We know he is youth obsessed, because that is whjy he cheated on, and left, his first wife. For a younger, prettier, wealthier woman.

And I suppose he is fearful that the Edwards scandal will now shine a spotlight on his own infidelity.

By the way, since it has been shown by other impartial analyzers of ads that the alleged tax increase on those making $42,000 is a blatant lie and, under Obama's plan, people with that income level would get a higher break with Obama than McCain, can you at least do a little political analysis and address it?

If you need links to the data, feel free to ask.

Given that McCain cannot operate a computer, let alone probably grasp what the internet is, this is all somewhat ironic.

Today McCain learned that if you take on Obama you'll have Hollywood to answer to.

Actually this is great for McCain. Everytime Hollywood sends a cease and desist, he gets a few more votes. McCain is trying to define Obama as a celebrity and it seems that Hollywood is way to willing to help him do that.

McCain is right in American does not need another Reagan., Or as McCain puts it "a creation of celebrity culture, Republican Actor, to further ruin this country.

America also does need another Hawk to complete the demise.

America needs JOBS paying a living wage. All else will follow.

POLITICALLY CORRECT AND POLITICALLY HONEST WEB BATTLE SITES
The vast majority of the politically-correct web sites resemble Pravda in their Marxist propaganda subversive to the family, Christianity, nationalism, and the Constitution; and their distortions of American history, and censorship of opposing information. Earlier they supported either Leiberman Neo-Lib Hillary or Podhoretz Neo-Con McCain; now, after Hillary’s shocking defeat by the Kennedy Liberal, Obama, these Crypto-Neo-Marxists are desperately united behind McCain.
Predictably, when Obama is finally elected, they will cunningly strive to make him serve their political and economic interests. They will stop their slandering and hate-baiting, and start slavishly ingratiating themselves; then systematically subject him to intensive psychological conditioning, political coercion, and bribery. Some, in early anticipation of Obama’s imminent victory, have already started deserting McCain, back-stabbing Bush, and dressing themselves up in patriotism.
The politically defeated New York Times, Boston Globe, Washington Post, and USA Today leading these strategic changes are coming up against a powerful new defensive Zeitgeist that is emerging in America. With it, the Age of Politically Correct Speech is ending, and an Age of Politically Honesty Speech is starting. This wonderful patriotic escalation in the Cultural War, a historical turning point, suggests that their change in subversive strategy will provoke increasingly stronger counter-offensives on the many politically-honest web battle sites.

McCain is turning into McTrivial and McJoker. What is his modus operandi about here anyway? It seems to me if he expects to find Osama bin Laden, fight the terrorists and keep America safe, it will not be this way. The more I see of his negative, presumptive (about how stupid Americans really are) tactics, the much less I like him.

I think all this trying to make Obama into a nothing, is rather preposterous. And in the end, it will backfire because it is going to rally Americans to vote Obama. It will also show McCain is the real empty suit in this match.

We're not showing a lack of humor. We're showing that we care about this election and don't think a playground bully is representative of the kind of leadership this country needs right now. We have to make a decision in America. We can choose a team leader who puts his ideas forth. We can choose someone who our children can respect. Or we can choose a looser who makes fun of good ideas, and confuses popularity with celebrity. I don't like jerks who would rather pull punches and tease than participate in an honest debate. And my kid would never be proud of graduating at the bottom of his class or not knowing how to use a computer.

Barack Obama '08

Oh John McCain. Looks like someone is showing the little green monster when it comes to that popular jock. First Paris Hilton, now Mike Myers doesn't want to be part of your sad sad attempts at mockery.

McCain, keep it up with the funny ads because when we get down to seeing a debate between you and Obama, we will see just how boring and lost you are without your campaign lobbyist and former bush advisor friends trying to make you appear alive and fun......

McCain is a sad person who cant even give a speech in front of some drunk_aS$ bikers without reading from his notes........his heart and cancer might be in good shape but his mind is still showing the signs of his age.....

The Mainstream Media NEEDS to back off slamming Senator Obama and giving McSlime a free ride on McSmear's Doubletalk Crooked Express. We citizens all know that the huge unadmitted elephant R in our living rooms stand for the Republican Party and its exploitation of Obama's ethnicity. Obama's visit to Tutu in Honolulu demonstrates where his roots are, with loving grandparents and a single mother who raised him as a struggling middle-class biracial child in the most multiethnic tolerant state of the US. McSame owns NINE expensive homes and wears $600 pairs of shoes. He was a legacy student whose failing grades would never have admitted him to Annapolis if it weren't for his military elite Admiral grandfather and father. He is Bush's third term, but on its doddering last legs. Where is the scrutiny of McShame's lies, deceptions, Keating Five past, adulterous history, failed military record, out-of-control anger tantrums, ignorant statements, sheer stupidity, lobbyists corruption and more?

The following is posted at the bottom of this blog - and for good reason - "If you are under 13 years of age you may read this message board, but you may not participate."

I think it might be a good idea to post the following during this election - "If you act under 13 years of age you may listen, but not participate in this election."

Of course, we know that applies to the McFoolish, the McTrivial and the McJokers out there who are disparaging people in the name of humor. If it was funny before, then I say it is not funny any more - okay? And I have a lot of patience and a great sense of humor like most Americans.

There comes a time when there has been enough playing in the sand box. You know, when you have to say for the "umpteenth time" enough is enough now stop it and behave. I am reaching that point now with McCain and his circus. I mean - is he a McMan, a McClown or a McMuffin?

I think it is getting to rather simple to see where to put your vote this time around. Do you want to vote in the angry comics with the character destruction agenda? Or, do we vote in the professionals and the strong leaders with an agenda for America's future - your future?

A key piece regarding McCain's celebrity spoofs is that they aren't funny and are actually quite stupid. Some humor is clever and witty but the ads are just dumb. It becomes legitimate to ask why they exist.
1) Is this the type of humor McCain enjoys? I don't know him very well. The ads suggest to me he is dumb --- like a kind of social loser.
2) Is this the type of humor McCain thinks some Americans will embrace and attract them to a McCain candidacy? If so, it really disrespects those people as being stupid idiots. Of course, that indicates the McCain campaign is elitist with regard to their view of a chunk of their potential supporters.
In either case, the ads obviously cast McCain in a negative light. It that sense, they are weird. It's hard to understand how something so imbecilic got put together and vetted etc.

Myers and most of Hollywood - you are in the spotlight unfortunately. Opinions will naturally follow so grow up.
McCain campaign is correct in their perception - isn't most of Hollywood and mass media behind a man whose follies are not being exposed! You have proved McCain's point well again - You have created a Rock Star who will be guided as a president by Hollywood and by Dems. This man is just a puppet for the Dems!

I've got to hand it to the old RINO, he really knows how to get under the Libs skin. Plus the ads are truly amusing - a definite highlight in a campaign that gives us a choice between an empty suit Junior Senator and a Tired old RINO.

I hope these ads continue, I really get a kick out of 'em, and they show that the guy does indeed have a sense of humor.

Signed - An Informed Independent

McCain - not born in the USA, somewhere in Panama
McCain - In the bottom 5 of his class (?) Braniac?
McCain - crashed 3 airplanes while learning to fly
McCain - computer illiterate.
McCain - left his first wife for the Beer Queen & $
McCain - Can't even speak to bikers without using notes

McCain - is mentally incompetent- too much time at the Hanoi Hilton has affected his brain.
McCain - sponsered by Rove, & all other NeoCons.

Please, someone. Just "Tailhook" this relic and let's just get on with the future of America.

McCain's crew made a funny foray in the weeds- probably hoped for a Hollywood objection-- but misses the forest. Fighting on the platform of looking past the other candidate's attraction confirms the attraction and does not diminish it. To diminish the attraction, you need to discredit the perceptions of people seemingly successful and confident. Good luck in a sound bite. I don't understand why they're abandoning the strategy that got McCain noticed nationally and the Republican nominee.

I can't believe these two complete losers are what we have to choose from.

Can't we get Joe Liberman and/or Bob Dole or heck, Pee Wee Herman to run?

Anything is better than these losers.

Anyone want to admit that when the 47 year old Obama goes off the cuff and off the teleprompter he sounds just like Bush? Stutter stutter stutter, made up words and what have you? Obama even thinks there are at least 57 states, doesn't even know where he is (Cedar Falls or Cedar Rapids) and every 3rd word out of his mouth is UHHHH or AHHH or UMMM. And some people think McCain is the one with the failing brain?

My guess is that both Bush and Obama went to the same cocaine parties and fried their brains.

Obama should be called Obush because that's who he's sounding like more and more every day.

Let's look at experience. I'm willing to bet that Obama's glad that the pilot of his campaign plane has more experience in the cockpit than Obama has in national politics. Think about it like this, which is a greater responsibility, flying a plane or running a country? Case closed. There's no getting around the lack of experience. Imagine what would have happened if, during the recent in-flight emergency on the Obama campaign plane, the pilot only had less than a year of experience in the cockpit. In fact, I dare say that the Obama campaign demands a certain level of expertise in their pilots. Why? Because experience counts. Imagine what would have happened if the pilot was rife with HOPE but not with experience. Imagine if the pilot was full of wanting CHANGE -- in this case wanting a change from the plane crashing and everyone dying to the pilots recovering and everything ending up ok.

"McCain Is Bush" [sic] should realize that McCain's supporters aren't the ones this ad is targeted to. They're already in the McCain camp. This ad is for the undecideds. I really don't understand "McCain Is Bush's" [sic] vitriol and name-calling. Sometimes I wonder if McCain-haters have the intellectual acumen to compose logical thoughts and to form their comments on the basis of rationality or if their only means of expression is to engage in name-calling and innuendo. They also seem stuck on age bigotry which is just hateful. Bigotry of any sort, whether against age, race, religion or what have you is just hateful and has no place in the discourse of intelligent adults on this forum. Each of us can't control what others say but what we CAN do is raise the level of discourse that we ourselves speak and elevate the discussion to something more than name-calling and bigotry.
