DENVER -- Word has gone out at the Pepsi Center: Barack Obama will make a ‘surprise’ appearance in the convention hall after his running mate, Joe Biden, finishes speaking to the delegates.

Obama arrived in Denver earlier today, after campaigning in Montana. His nomination was made official earlier today.

(UPDATE: He did, introduced by Biden’s wife, Jill, who after joining him on stage told him to expect a ‘surprise guest.’ Biden, barely, feigned surprise.

Obama praised his running mate, then drew a big cheer from the crowd when he said, ‘If I’m not mistaken, Hillary Clinton rocked the house last night.’

And he gave a nod to Bill Clinton, who had spoken earlier. Clinton, he said, ‘reminded us what it’s like when you’ve got a president who actually puts people first.’
