Rudy Giuliani out of the VP picture

July 22, 2008 |  8:53 am

Even if John McCain really is thinking about announcing his vice presidential choice this week to grab some of the spotlight from the globe-trotting Barack Obama, you can pretty much count out Rudy Giuliani as a candidate. If anyone ever counted him in.

"I am not on the short list. I don't want to be on the short list,'' Giuliani replied, when asked by NBC's David Gregory on the "Today" show if he would make a suitable running mate. "Sen. McCain has some excellent choices.''

As our colleagues at The Swamp point out, the former New York mayor’s pro-choice and pro-gun control views (not to mention his marriage history or "sanctuary city" stance) made him a problematic Republican prospect for a running mate.

And after banking heavily on Florida during the Republican primaries -- only to finish third there before quitting the race -- Giuliani is by no means a proven GOP presidential vote-getter.

Rudu must be afraid of having to ask questions about his questionable business dealings with the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks. Another question to be avoided is exactly when did Rudy start taking Cipro? Did he benefit in any way from the attacks? Why hasn't he been asked these questions...oh, but he has. remember his interview with Tim Russert on Meet the Press? or have we forgotten so soon. too bad Tim died so young; it doesnt seem right.

McCain should pick Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska, which would emphasize his break with the politics of Bush and Cheney.

I think Rob Portman works best for Johnny Mac. He's the right age from the right zip code in the right state. He may not win him the election but Rob won't embarrass him either.

Did you know he was Mayor on 9/11?
