BREAKING NEWS: Hillary Clinton 'open' to veep spot

June 3, 2008 | 12:43 pm

The Associated Press, continuing to lead the way in reporting the breaking developments in the wrap-up to the Democratic presidential race, writes that Hillary Clinton has told unspecified lawmakers from her home state of New York that she is "open" to joining the party's national ticket as Barack Obama's running mate.

Lacking an unequivocal, no-way, no-how denial from the Clinton camp, the news should significantly increase public calls from her supporters for Obama to offer her the post. And, conversely, it should spark a full-throated debate among Obama backers as to whether that would be a good or bad thing.

Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, a staunch Clinton ally, helped get the ball rolling earlier today on what some Democrats view as the "dream ticket" scenario.

In an interview with CNN in which she said the "moment of truth" had arrived for Clinton to end her presidential quest, Feinstein added, "I’m a very strong supporter of Hillary being placed on the ticket as a vice presidential candidate.”

Obama, if Hillary becomes your selected Vice President running mate just remember you are getting "two" Clintons. You do not need two Clintons telling you how to run our country.

Maybe the potential of HC being on the ticket would get the Obama supporters to cease the Hillary-bashing that has been going on for so long. The two of them are clearly the best that the Democratic Party can offer, with the deepest support. Joining them together would be a political coup, along the lines of the Kennedy - Johnson ticket in 1960.

No, she is not a person will be cooperated and working together. Look, she fights until she can not win, then back out to be VP. She is not serving our country but just for her ego. Look back when she was first lady, why she would let Bill did adultery without correction. She could not run her family how can she runs a country. That would be a BIG mistake when choosing her as VP. Obama, you will win with anyone as VP but not with Billary. She will betray on your back. Trust me, that lady is worse than a dictator/junta.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO! No one in his right mind would take this woman as VP. The consequences are unthinkable.

Give me a break! If Clinton has to be in the White House, run on an independent ticket like Ross Perot! The Party (and the press) has messed things up beyond repair beginning with the wrist-slapping for voting too early and denying the campaign money to privy states. Republicans, you'll get my vote this year...I've had enough!!!

Please no more Clintons anywhere near the White House.
If Sr, Obama is in fact elected, the last thing he needs is HillaBilly and all their baggage to deal with. A fresh slate is what he needs, not the nonesense HilaBilly bring with them as a distraction. Offer it to Feinstein and see how loyal she is to the Clintons. I for one am sick of the Clintons and want them to just go away.

NO!!! NEVER!!! DON 'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!!

I am sad Hillary is not going to be the Dem nominee. If you want my vote Barack, ask Hillary to be on your ticket. Yes I am willing to cross over to the devil (republicans) if the Dems dont do the right thing. Hillary should be President anyway. She is WAY much better than Rack' or Cain'.

YOU ARE STILL THE BEST AVAILABLE CANDIDATE HILLARY!!!!!

If you are a democrat and turn sides to vote republican you are a greater fool than you know, considering their are at the very least 2 spots on the Supreme Court that will need to be filled. McCain has already used "code" language that indicates he will nominate more of the same (really bad idea) REALLY REALLY BAD.

I would be very, very disappointed in Obama if he takes Clinton as his running mate. That one decision would wipe out much of the reason independents and moderate Republicans would vote for him by instantly reducing his welcome message of "change" to meaninglessness. It would also alienate liberal Democrats who have had it to here with the Clinton approach to governance and politics. Obama's credibility -- both with his most ardent supporters and with so many outsiders who are drawn to him -- would plummet.

I hope he resist the pressure, I really do.

My 79 year old republican voting mother (who may vote for Obama) would rather sit out the election than vote for a ticket that has H. Clinton on it.

Obama will have an opportunity to show what kind of person he is with his selection of a running mate. If he choses Clinton he loses my, and my mother's, vote.

ONLY a president with W's blunders and unpopularity could spark such a wholesale desire for change by US voters, regardless of race, gender, income or geography. After all the talk about an unstoppable dream ticket there will be voter letdown without it.

If McCain can't convince voters that he's leading the change -- distant from Bush/Cheney, distant from Iraq -- he'll go down in an unprecedented landslide, even if Obama chose BIl Clinton as his VP. And how can McCain top it? Pick Clarence Thomas for VP?

Reading all these anti-Hillary comments is frustrating. I don't know if it's Obama or his supporters I'm turned-off by most. It's like they all need doggy downers or something. I hear "baggage" without elaboration. I hear that poor fresh Obama will be sabotaged by 'Brillary' making me wonder what kind of president we'll be getting who can't setup a workable whitehouse that gives definition to roles. If Obama can't negotiate with Bill and Hillary that doesn't give me much hope for his prospects in the international arena. Is he going to wear that pants in his adminstration or does he need mothering and protection from others.

As if Obama would live through a four year term with Clinton as a VP. Why would the Clinton's now decide not to use murder as a way to gain/maintain power, as they have been doing it for years?

Wake up people!

Question the main stream media; always.

As much as it pains me to say it, it's probably a good way to ensure the Presidency. And something I will always remember being told once as a boy and that is if you are walking with snakes keep the most venomous ones close to you, so you can always see what they are doing

Yeah, after the Bobby Kennedy comments he is going to pick her for veep? Right.

I think HRC would be a bad choice for Vice President. She has said too many negative things about Obama that are already being used by the Republicans. Also, she is a polarizing figure who would alienate Republicans and independents. I would be very concerned for Obama's safety if HRC were his VP, especially after HRC's Freudian slip about RFK's assassination. Former Clinton aide David Gergen said it best when he said Obama would need a food taster if HRC were his VP!

Polls from surveyusa.com seem to show John Edwards as a strong pick for Obama's VP. This would be a "dream ticket" as far as I am concerned! Too bad Edwards has said that he doesn't want the job... but people change their minds!

I think HRC has a lot to offer and Obama should appoint her to a cabinet position or the Supreme Court if he wins the election.

Sure, let Bill be the US Ambassador to Thailand -- Patpong is the place he ought to be.

I grew up in St. Louis city. I'm comfortable black or white. I was baptized and confirmed in Trinity UCC... it's a decent liberal branch of Christianity. I watched the Republicans impeach Bill Clinton. I have voted STRAIGHT Democratic ever since. I watched America elect George Bush, TWICE! Now America is nominating Barack Obama? Who is Barack Obama? What has he done to qualify to lead the world's super power? Should a presidential candiate have to quit his church to ensure his election... quit my church? Never mind him being naive and inexperienced... first he defends his brother and THEN he disowns him! I swore I would never vote for another Republican but I will not follow America down another rabbit hole by voting for Obama no matter how nice a guy he is. I will vote for Hillary Clinton, or I will vote for John McCain. The Democratic party will not win the White House in November if Hillary Clinton is not on the Democratic ticket. It is that simple. You can cheat her in the primaries with Republican state caucuses and by stealing the vote from Michigan and Florida, but you can not cheat her in the general election. John McCain is a far better choice than George Bush and America will trust John McCain long before it trusts Barack Obama.

NO NO NO - Send Hillary way way back to where she came from............. and then some.............. Obama needs to pick Jim Webb of VA or John Edwards or Bill Richardson -- politicians of integrity and who do not go contrary to his call for a new politics and a new day for America. To pick Hillary would be a major mistake and would turn the White House into a 3-ring circus -- literally. Let's face it - Bill is still totally out of control - its quite obvious. Obama should not let the Clinton's pressure him in any way whatsoever.................. He does not need Hillary to win - he will win on his own talents and intelligence and integrity. Obama v. McCain - all will see a world of difference between the two.

Oh, my gosh.

Has Clinton finally gone all the way around the bend?

How could she imagine that Obama would bring her onto the ticket with him after the campaign she, her husband, and surrogates have run?

I don't even want to be in the same party with her.

It would be the one way -- and I say this as a former maverick Republican -- it would be the one certain way to sink the Democratic ticket once and for all in this year when a Democratic victory should be a shoo-in.

Obama may face challenges in the general election (of course, so does my own 2000-election-pick, John McCain), but I firmly believe that the inclusion of Clinton on the ticket would be a deal-killer, particularly after the campaign she and her people ran.

Also, Obama would certainly have to watch his back -- and his flanks -- because, as we all know by now, Bill Clinton would be coming along for the ride.

Whoa... this is really too much for me to wrap my mind around. She's come undone.

Hillary is a fighter with experience - He needs her, and the votes she will bring in!

This is designed to keep the homefires burning. When Obama picks someone else, the Clinton-backers can claim disrespect. There might be no choice but to take her on as VP.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO! Don't do it Obama If you do I won't vote for you because you'll be dead within the year. Listen to me. This is your first test. If you fail by choosing her then you will lose in November. HORRIBLE... WICKED IDEA... SHe said her and McCain were better than you. She said you cannot win. She said Kennedy was killed in JUNE. Words have meaning! Tell her she's needed in the Senate (and Harry Reid gets to keep his job).

I can just see Bill Clinton now, setting up a desk next to the White House entrance. Obama would have to be nuts to allow these two people to cloud his Presidency.
