Antonio Villaraigosa gets with the Obama program

June 6, 2008 |  7:18 pm

Much like the losing candidate he backed in the Democratic presidential race, L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa appears to be coming to grips with the contest's outcome.

We noted Thursday that Villaraigosa, asked to comment on Barack Obama's ascension as the party's presumptive nominee, still had Hillary Clinton on his mind.

But just as Clinton seems ready to move on, based on comments she made today to her leading money people, so too Villaraigosa. He appeared on CNN today, singing Obama's praises.

“His clarion call for change touched a cord all across the nation, and I’m going to work as hard for him as I did for Hillary Clinton,’’ he told Wolf Blitzer.

One of our companion blogs, L.A. Now, has more on what the mayor said here.

Antonio Villaraigosa chose not to back Obama until everybody else in the country had already done so. Los Angeles need not ask the Obama administration for any favors.

Way to go Villaraigosa.

On the plus side, you are in tight with Bill now, the two of you can go out picking up chicks.

Glad to see that L.A.'s mayor is getting with the program. But perhaps he is unaware of a unique connection that Hollywood has to Obama. But I can't fault him. I only recently discovered it.

Why thank you mayor. When Obama comes to visit L.A., why don't you show a little "Angelino hospitality" and show him around our city with the diversity of cultures, famous landmarks and beautiful women. On second thought, Obama's a married man. So why don't you call up your ex-wife and her cook a dinner for four. Mr. and Mrs. Obama, you and Mirthala.

Great, just what the Obama camp needs. Tony Villar is nothing but a chronic liar, a first-rate womanizer and political opportunist supreme. My advice to the Obama camp? See clear of this liability.
