Hillary Clinton wins West Virginia ... but will anyone care?

May 13, 2008 |  4:40 pm

As expected, Hillary Clinton was instantly declared the winner of the West Virginia Democratic presidential primary by every media outlet in the business of making such calls.

Now, the question becomes how bad of a thumping Barack Obama endured and whether it will make a whit of difference to the presumption among so many party leaders -- and pundits -- that the Illinois senator remains on the path to his party's nomination.

With so few pledged delegates at stake in the Mountain State -- 28 -- even the early projections of a 2-to-1 Clinton victory would only barely chip away at Obama's overall lead in this category. What the political world will be watching, though, is whether the steady -- though hardly torrential -- stream of superdelegates into the Obama camp over the past week dries up for the moment.

Hillary Who wins West Virgin---Where??

I am sorry, but I just don't have any attention span for political side shows perpetuated by those who don't know when to stop wasting their own money and other people's time, now that general election campaigning is underway between Obama and McBush.....

It's all so comical. This is the Clinton's first major setback where there is no "bouncing" back.

It's clear, ding-dong the witch is dead!

The headline:

"Hillary wins WV by a landslide, nets 10 more delegates than Obama!!"

The fact:

"Obama nets 19 superdelegates this past week alone!!"

Why does anyone care about WV so much just because Hillary wants us all to call it "turning of the tide?"

If she is soooo capable of winning the white vote, why did she win IN by less than 2%?

Congratulations to Hillary Clinton. Now onward and forward.

Here’s a summary of some good reasons to consider supporting Obama. Share it widely with friends in Kentucky and Oregon:

So Hillary won West Virginia, The whole state has as less people than the city of San Diego.

Most people in West Virginia are old uneducated whites who throughout the process have supported Clinton.

You cannot put much thought into what people like that think. They are as predictable as it comes.

Nope. No one cares that HRC has won WV.

Just a friendly reminder HRC said, "Screw the public, they don't know anything." She has dissmissed and states and caucuses she has lost as the race progressed. This is what she will do to the public if she ever gets to the White House. No thanks. No Clintons!

Obama '08!!!

I'm sorry, did you say something? Did something actually happen tonight? Oh, Hillary got a first down. Yeah. Barack is ahead by six touchdowns with two minutes to go.

Well, no, I don't care if she wins West Virginia. It's what I would call a harvest of sour grapes, and in my opinion as a politician she has managed to thoroughly mess up a good thing. Who else has ever had the set-up advantage that Hillary Clinton had going into this primary? Nobody else, ever. Mr. Obama, on the other hand, came up through the ranks on his own merits, by virtue of his own skillset. The Queen is dead, long live the King.

I am so glad for Mrs. Clinton, once again proving all the haters wrong...You go Girl!

Ummmm, NO, of course no one cares. West Virginia is home to some of the most backwards, inbred, "Deliverance"-esque, gun-toting, Nascar-loving, racist yahoos in the country - uneducated, ignorant, xenophobic, mongoloids, in the whole country. Did I say they're racist?

the real question is... does the media care?

I dont think it will matter......If she wins by 60-65%, she will only net about 10-13 delegates over Obama......

Obama picked up 30 Superdelegates this week alone, so even if you put Kentucky into the equation (which she is expected to win as well) it doesnt matter, and with her her bein 20 MILLION in Debt.....she is not sounding very convincing to the American people or superdelegates that she should be a good president.....

58 to 38 is not bad for Obama, that's less than 2:1
He'll lose by approx. 10 dels

I would love to like Mr. Obama. But when one looks at his past history, the way he got elected to his first office by doing what he did to Senator Alice Palmer who he eliminated from competition through dirty politics in 1996, his standing as one of the top beneficiaries from the oil companies, his associations with Rezko and Wright which he tried to avoid and downright lied about, only disassociating when he was backed into a corner, and his other underhanded methods while pretending to be taking the high road have totally turned me off. He looks like a phony, pretentious politician to me. And I am TRULY disappointed at his hypocrisy. I want to vote for someone I admire and trust. That is definitely not Obama. Also disheartening is the seemingly uncritical loyalty he has evoked in just over 1/2 of the voting democrats. Isn't anyone paying attention to his history of essentially ruthless ambition and posterior covering tactics? This is definitely NOT what we need in the difficult times ahead. I am truly concerned about the future of America if he wins. He is NOT to be trusted people! Just carefully examine his past practices. With all due respect for young people in college, they haven't ever lived in the real world where politicians affect their daily lives and phony leadership causes them any permanent harm. Where has our sense of survival gone?

The race is over. she needs to get out for the good of the party but because of her and Bill's arrogance she won't. Have personally lost a lot of respect for both of them

I care and am impressed. She doesn't give up easily and go to the back of the bus. She refuses to budge. Good for her.

Care? Hell yeah! Go Hillary!

"Hillary Clinton wins West Virginia ... but will anyone care?"

Every democrat *should* care. This only underscores how poorly Obama does with blue-collar whites, the so-called Reagan Democrats. They'll vote for McCain in November and thus lose the election for Obama. (That's why the LA Times poll showed Clinton has a better chance of beating McCain in the fall than Obama.)

The Obama Zealots are so starry-eyed about delegate counts and their unstoppable momentum yada yada yada that they don't notice the enormous, looming iceberg off the starboard: Obama can't connect with traditional blue-collar, working Democrats. Without them, he'll lose in November.

I really think all of the people that 63% plus all the other states she has won, like CA. do care.

It would be unthinkable if she won the popular vote and they give the nomination to that other guy, Obama who?

Only Hillary, her debt, and Rush care....

....and none of those matter to america.

The only ones who will care are the Hillary people. I love that Obama finally decided this campaign was over, and started to campaign for the fall. Clinton tonight sounded like a delusional homeless person - only she got her irrational rantings broadcast live on national TV rather than the street corner where everyone politely avoids you.

Obama does not represent core Democrats. We are facing challenging issues and we need a President w/ exp and a track record of hard work. Obama's credentials are much too light. If he had Colin Powell's level of exp, it would be a different story.

No.

It has become obvious to all but a few Die Hard Clinton Supporters and their Republican friends trying to Destroy Senator Obama that the nomination process has clearly shown that Senator Obama is the choice of the American people.

Now Bush turned over the vote in Florida in 2004 using his daddies friends on the Supreme court and clinton is hoping for a similar conclusion. But it just ain't going to happen.

Clinton now works for the Republican party. I fail to understand why she cannot just be honest and approach McCain for the VP role with the Republicans a role she would be far far better suited to.

Go away Hillary, just go away, you have become a NATIONAL:L EMBARRASSMENT, just go away and roll around in your Piles and Piles of money.........that should make you very happy being so close to that which is of the utmost importance to you, money.

Clinton - Bush

Same Horse Different Color....

Are you Still Fooled?

Ha Ha...................

The posts by Glen and Jack are right on!!!!!

How any one, in the right mind, can claim to be the stronger candidate, when they have lost, or are loosing in EVERY MEASURABLE metric of the campaign, (one where she and her campaign advisor's had very much to do in setting up, including penalizing Florida and Michigan), is beyond me. Starts campaign with the name legacy, tons of super delegate endorsements, (before anybody had cast the first ballot), hugh campaign war chest and lots of donations, and she is loosing. Hillary supporters, you would deny the first AA from being the nominee, who has WON FAIRLY? If so, then here's a question for you. Suppose the Supers decide to give it to her. First off, it would be one of the most tainted nominations in American history, but that doesn't seem to bother her, or her supporters. Just suppose she gets it. She goes on to win the General Election. Bush then uses a obscure constitutional clause that would allow him to stay in power for another term because the Country is at war. Number 1: Would you be upset, would you scream injustice and demand that the decision be given to her? Number 2: Why would you then insist that the same denial of a rightful win be done to Barack Obama? Look forward to your responses, but my guess it that there will be none forthcoming, as such a mindset is not only deplorable, but unworthy of any American who hold the power of freedom of democracy dear to their heart!
