* Money shocker! Hillary Clinton's campaign debt soars
(*UPDATE: Due to a mathematical error, Hillary Clinton's loans to herself were added twice in the calculation of this item. Her total debts are about $21 million, not $31 million. A corrected item covering the first five paragraphs of this one has been published here.)
No wonder Sen. Hillary Clinton was so late filing her required campaign financial reports Tuesday night. Her political team didn't want the shocking news in it to overshadow her lopsided thumping of Sen. Barack Obama in Kentucky.
But here's the morning after, pay-up time. Clinton's campaign debt has now soared to nearly $31 million, according to numbers crunched early this morning by The Times' campaign finance guru, Dan Morain.
She added another $9.5 million in unpaid bills to vendors this last month alone, pushing her total debt to vendors and herself to the new astronomical figure, about a 50% debt increase in one month.
According to a campaign release put out Tuesday evening as election returns revealed her big win in Kentucky and loss in Oregon, Clinton raised "approximately $22 million" from other people in April. The release also touted that $10 million had poured in within 48 hours of another lopsided Clinton victory over Obama, that one in Pennsylvania, and said it was the second best fund-raising month of her entire campaign.
But the number collected is actually closer to $21 million and the release also neglected to mention that she spent $28.9 million, nearly $8 million more than she took in. She used personal loans to make up part of the difference. She also delayed payments to consultants. Including the $9.5 million in unpaid bills from April, she owes consultants and other vendors $19.5 million. Not to mention the total $11.4 million she has loaned herself.
For other campaign finance figures, including surprising financial success by the Republican Party aided by the president, continue reading below the video.
The likely Democratic nominee Obama continues to vastly out-raise Sen. John McCain, but the presumed Republican nominee is closing the money gap with the significant help of his party, according to new campaign finance reports filed Tuesday.
McCain disclosed he had $21.7 million in the bank at the end of April, compared with ...
... Obama’s $46.5 million. But the Republican National Committee is proving to be a real financial equalizer for the Arizona senator with the notorious distaste for fund-raising.
With significant time and help from President George W. Bush, the RNC ended April with $40.6 million in the bank -- 10 times more than the Democratic National Committee, which had a modest $4.4 million in the bank.
The Democratic Party's fund-raising also was a fraction of the Republicans' in April -- a mere $4.7 million, compared with $19.8 million for the RNC.
The DNC’s cash in the bank actually fell from its March total, which was $5.3 million. Democrats have tapped former Vice President Al Gore in an effort to draw donors to party fund-raisers.
Party money can be used to help the nominees in a variety of direct and indirect ways during the general election campaign. Parties can pay for voter registration, voter turnout efforts and advertising.
McCain’s primary fight has long been over, which allowed him to limit spending to $6.4 million last month. Democratic front-runner Obama raised $31.9 million last month and spent $36.4 million, according to his report filed late Tuesday.
McCain disclosed he received $17.8 million in contributions in April, pushing his total receipts to $100.4 million for the whole campaign, less than half of Obama's total of $266.6 million since January 2007.
The freshman Illinois Democrat scooped up $31.9 million last month, a 20% drop from the $40 million he raised in March. He collected $55 million back in February, which seems millions of dollars ago, doesn't it?

Wow. Has she spent beyond what she can contribute to the campaign?
It's not fair to keep going if you cannot pay the bills. It's wrong to incur debt if you cannot repay the debt. It's dishonest. It's bad planning and leadership.
Imagine what would happen if she were in charge of our economy? She has made so many costly promises. She's like a teenager with a credit card. Only the American public are the ones who will need to pay the bill.
Scary.

clinton's campaign is sucking up a lot of money that could go to the dnc, to other candidates with a better chance of winning or to defeat mccain. that is why it is coming to look more and more like a vanity effort.

If you can't organize, fund and succeed in running your own campaign how- pray tell can you successfully run the country? Running a national campaign demostrates the leadership ability the candidates possess - I don't like what I see here!!!

Being for the working man, doesn't it bother her to not be paying for their services? Don't want this kind of management in a President. Guess when you are suffering for PTSD from sniper fire it affects your judgement.
Posted by: KatyR | May 21, 2008 at 04:11 AM
What is she up to? It is one thing to keep at a losing campaign when you can afford to stay in just for the hell of it. It is another thing to go $30 million in the hole when there appears to be no reasonable chance of recovery. People ribbed Huckabee for staying in so long, but I don't recall him going into debt. Is Clinton's staying in this race really a display of grit and determination, or does she know something we don't?

Maybe Terry McAuliffe can sell some used cars while he's waiting to get paid.
Posted by: ericmiami | May 21, 2008 at 04:19 AM
What good can possibly come from two or three people willing to spend a billion dollars for a job that pays half a million dollars a year?
Surely something is not good here.
When the campaign gets that large there are no public servants left.
50 million in debt, and still not afraid of the end. I can not see how that debt will ever be paid. Nor would I want a president that lived like that.
Thanks for listening,

After reading about how much she has spent in this losing proposition, I cannot believe she has what it takes to be the leader of the US... what a colossal waste of money--- handed over to advertising companies who are making millions over this campaign. Enough already-- does she realize how many people could have been helped with the millions she has spent?? What a greedy lesbian!

I'm not sure how ethical it is for a candidate to kick 11.4 million of personal funding into their War Chest?
Fortunately, she wasn’t able to buy the nomination!
Sounds like she'd make a good Secretary of the Treasury!

This is exactly why I would never vote for HRC.
$31m in debt, while Obama raises $31m?
Not too difficult to see how Obama really does mean change. If Clinton is willing to go into this deep of debt in an attempt to win, do you really think that she won't give a hoot how much further she'll tumble the US into debt to complete her agenda if she were elected?
HRC is a traditional politician, it's a fact, and it's not to hard to imagine how things would remain if this person were to win (status quo) we'd be getting the same thing we've always had... another 4 years of the same thing, lots of debt and more broken promises. Up until the late 60s the US had very little national debt (by comparison) yet by the mid 80s politicians realized that fiscal responsibility was irrelevant (thank you Ronald Raygun) and HRCs willingness to run up massive debts in her own bid to win, is reflective of how she would govern... aren't you sick of this already? We've squandered billions and billions... meanwhile the bare necessities are impossible to fund.
Black or not, who gives a rats a** (thank you Kentucky for proving that racism still is alive in 2008). Let's change the machine this time and see what happens - ake a risk on the real maverick...honestly can't be any worse than 8 years of bush/cheney

All these millions of dollars wasted for a losing effort. Why doesn't she raise money like this for all those poor people she claims to care about?? Sickening.
Posted by: bobbie | May 21, 2008 at 04:34 AM
How can she honestly be considered for the nomination when she is spending money she doesn't have to continue? She is preaching that she is best for the economy; she cannot run the economy in her campaign!
Obviously the voters are not urging her to continue; or they would contribute to her effort.
Any superdelegate that continues to support her in the face of this debt is inhibiting the long term fundraising efforts of the Democratic party. They need to end this today.

Posted by: ericmiami | May 21, 2008 at 04:41 AM
H still running even though she doesn't have a chance - why would she continue to run? At some point, she'll continue the fund raising but stop her spending to help cover some of her debt. That's the only reason why I can think she's still in this race. She's a loser. How can we trust her to run our country when she deliberately tried to hide her finance problems? What else would she hide?

This is so sad! As I listened to HRC last night and heard her ask for more money to go on, I wondered how many venders will never see their money! I also wondered how many folks supporting Hillary are doing without based on false hope. She pushes the gas tax relief this summer, yet will not take office until Jan. 09. She is on the campaign trail for goodness sake. She is not in her office in the Senate! Promises, Promises, Promises!! We must have a change in our direction toward the future and HRC's methods even in running a campaign indicate that all will remain the same if she and Bill move back to the White House.

Time for campaign finance reform to get serious.
Hmm, all those contributions in the milions of dollars. Imagine how much better spent they would be on education and health - not to mention the burgeoning poor in America.
Now, all the people who have donated get to write them off their next IRS declaration - and here we are with an economy in shambles, a war we cannot easily get out of but should never had gotten into in the first place, unemployment on the increase and the mortgage crisis bringing us ever closer to repeat 1929. And George helps the RNC get 40 million! And Hilary gives the "thanks but no thanks" to the invoices for people who did real work - oh, I forgot, so "all the voices can be heard"...

idiots. she's been working on 2012 for months. dick morris has been saying for a week what i've been saying since march. Obama gets MONDALED in the Fall. He has NO CHANCE. And Hill runs unopposed in 2012 after Obama is eliminated as a viable candidate.
she is such a total loser. she can't do anything right, and her 'intelligence' is truly suspect.

How can Hillary continue to solicit cash and then leave unpaid bills? She is leaving a lot of hardworking Americans with unpaid bills. Those not being paid are not just Big Time Ad Agencies, they are Mom and Pop establishments like Restaurant and Banquet Hall owners. These dollars are better suited for the DNC or other Dem candidates.

Notice that altho hilliary complains that media gives preference and more coverage to Obama ...not one word was said last night about her 31 million debt.
What does she plan? To be on the ticket...and then all her debts will vanish.
And yes ...the way she has run her campaign is a clear indication of the way she woudl run the country..into debt and defeat.
Ann Coulter was right. The only way to stop the two Clintons is with a stake thru their hearts ..but can you find one?

Hillary will keep fighting until she can extract every last dollar she can from the Presidential Election Campaign Fund - a not uncommon practice among losing presidential primary contenders and one reason why I will never check off the $3.00 on the income tax return.

Obama fund raising will suffer if there is a perception that that his funds may go to pay off the Clinton campaign debt in future. She is taking funds away the main fight with McCain -- her legacy can only diminish from this point on.

Go home Hillary, This is NOT about you and your greed. Your lust for power is eroding the chances the Democratic Party has to reduce the blight of the Bush administration. IF YOU TRULY LOVE AMERICA, GO HOME NOW, AND STOP ACTING LIKE A STUPID SKANK.

Clinton is so dedicated to "you" that she's willing to loan herself money to get back into the White House - money that others will end up repaying regardless of whether she wins or loses. What dedication. What sacrifice. Classic Clinton: incompetence, arrogance, utter selfishness and lack of principle Just like her last-ditch embrace of the working class whites she used to spit on back in the glory days when she flew over them in Air Force One and let 10 million illegal immigrants come in to take their jobs. Best thing about this election so far is the Democractic Party rejecting the Clintons. We need to follow up by kicking out all members of the worst Congress in history.

Posted by: txasslm | May 21, 2008 at 05:03 AM
Simple cost-benefit analysis. Her hole has already been dug. If she goes home now, she has no choice but to dig out of it. If she wins the nomination, then it was all worth it. If she doesn't win the nomination, then she is not much worse off; after all, what's $50 million contrasted to $30 million?! The answer to that rhetorical question is, "not much".
The benefits [to Ms Clinton] of a potential nomination far outweigh the marginal cost [to her] of continuing this race...

Hillary realizes that the math isn't there for her to get the nomination. However, she will contest this all the way to the convention so as to have a huge bargaining chip that will allow her, in the end, to retire this debt (pay herself back), and secure the VP slot, or a promise of something else she wants. As usual, it's all about the Clinton's, not the party. Who knew? We all did and it didn't matter. We deserve what we got.
Posted by: Bob | May 21, 2008 at 05:13 AM
She'll roll the debt into her Senate campaign and fleece everyone one more time. Than she'll start seeing if she done enough damage so she has a shot at 2012. Nice one Billary.

There ought to be a law about this overspending. However, you have to consider who makes the laws.
How much more debt can she accumulate before she gives up?

Its not about the Democrat party, its all about her and my quest for power. Nothing else matters. The rules don't matter, the party doesn't matter, heck, the country doesn't matter. Hillary has had every advantage in the race, Money, name recognition, and she blew it. Runing record debt. JFK once said being president is like running a campaign. If this is true, then A Hillary presidency would be a 4 year disaster that makes President Bush reign look good. I hope she stays and keeps fighting until 2009 just so she and Bill looks as silly and as desperate as possible. We should never let these two creatures near power again.
Posted by: walterb | May 21, 2008 at 05:17 AM
What I'll want to know is if these vendors and other folks who are owed the money will get it and where will it come from? I'm guessing that report will never see the light of day once Obama has been nomintated and Hillary slithers back into her hole, leaving those who extended her credit holding the debt. I doubt very much she'll use her own funds to make everyone whole. Lets see what happens!

I'm one of those $25 donators, and I am no mobster, but rather a hard working American, as have many people who have donated. I've donated (and others) have donated for the first time for a campaign because I feel he's someone I can trust and believe in, unlike Hillary and McCain who have credibility issues.
Posted by: Jonathan | May 21, 2008 at 05:24 AM
You are looking at it all the wrong way. This is not 31 million wasted, this is 31 million invested. BIll Clinton left the White House and made 100 million "speaking" to big companies. Exxon, GM and other successful companies would pay Bill $150K+ to give them a talk about leadership or his time in the White House. Of course, if GM or Exxon needed something done on the Hill I am sure Bill could put in a nice call... Billary has been done for ages now and the new pathetic low of this contest came for me last week when she tried to claim she has more popular votes. Besides the fact she only had a lead if you counted a place Obama wasn't even on the balot, the "lead" was .02%. Hillary needs to exit stage right. IF I were on the Obama team, after securing a majority of pledged delegates I'd be flying to Michigan tonight and declaring you want "all the votes counted." Take that talking point away from her, show you really are the agent of unity you claim to be, end it as a sore point between Dems and unofficially declare victory by showing you are so confident in securing the nomination you are willing to seat half delegations. It doesn't matter anyway. There is no measure by which Clinton can win other than a sweeping super majority of super delegates.

the money is another diversion and distraction to get people to believe their money had any major influence on who'd be represented in the white house; even those commanding billions will pretend to take sides: but where the money comes from (your sweat, your tears and slavery) there's so much of it that it could buy almost any number of corrupt candidates - which explains why the major picks are all on the same list. when (rarely) someone like candidate for PRESIDENT, RON PAUL comes along to venture to defend liberty, prosperity and peace, the birthright of the people, this is not for profit but for love. if people show discernment and choose their conscience - it's up to them.

Any moron who attempts to correlate campaign finances to the US economy is obviously ignorant of financial management. Although it appears that those who espouse this fallacy are 1st time voters who lack any political knowledge. They know how to post, but are ignorant of history or facts. Doing research is too much like work for them. It's a lot easier to post nonsense.

They file campaign finance reports and you can find all the names of the donors right there. Why don't you actually do some research instead of making idiotic insinuations? (Oh wait, then you'll just see that it's average americans and you can't spread more unbased rumors.)
If there were ANY issues with Obama's contributors, you're telling me that Clinton or the media wouldn't have figured that out and brought it up and had a field day with it?

I mostly vote republican. I'm not the elite. I'm working class and do not have a college degree, but I'm not stupid.
I am white. And I'm voting for Obama and most of my white friends are voting for Obama because he represents a clear alternative to the politics of past, his campaign is not fueled by lobbyist or special interest and because of one of the most important assets of any great leader...
... like Reagan he engenders optimism. That is one of the very most important things our greatest presidents have done. They literally WILL people to a more successful place. Reagan, FDR, Churchill, Lincoln.
They were good at a lot of things, but the one thing they could do was to bring people to their feet around a common cause and foster optimism in the face of real adversity. That's what it takes to transform our current situation and Obama is the only one with the right stuff to do it.

Why is it cool when nearly 100% of blacks canvas and parade to vote for Obama, but blatantly racist when 60% of the whites vote for the first woman contending for the Presidency? Why is it OK to attack and mercilessly mock Bill and Chelsea campaigning for Hillary, but so sinister to question Michelle's loyalties (the potential first lady) in light of her daring admission that "after all these years (listening to Rev. Wright) she is finally proud to be an American” on the eve of Democratic nomination! Is everyone supposed to applaud that inspiring statement - like the moronic loud mouths Mathews and Doberman do?
Why is Obama's condescending, cocky, elitist, intellectual arogance, cloaked in hollow rhetoric, viewed as a virtue by the media, but Hillary’s mannerisms and hyperbole on Bosnian snipers sufficient to totally smear her character and qualifications for a political position that often rewards such attributes (Regan, Bushes)?
Why is it that the Hillary backers showing up on cable –shows so defensive and cautious in attacking Barack while the latter's fervent supporters cannot conceal their glee over Obama or their misogynistic or racist view on Hillary (yes Black racism is very evident in the media!)
Why are cyberspace and cable TV so viciously and overwhelmingly anti-Hillary while the Teflon Obama is being fawned and coddled as a Messiah? Is all this evidence of an underground cult or is it the work egg heads getting paid to skip classes and inundate the blogosphere to demonize Hillary and deify Obama in order to cover their tuition costs?
I am neither white nor black, neither Christian nor Muslim, but a fair minded, neutral, and concerned citizen totally aghast at how the media and the so called 'pundits' are once again shaping this election and crowning a new tool - just as they did eight and four years back with terrible consequences to the country’s image, economy and future well being - not to mention the thousands of innocent lives lost in a premeditated, senseless, war cheer leaded by the same media and the pundits. Now it is the radical left’s turn to unleash its agenda just as the radical neocons did over the past eight years. Guess a middle ground is too boring for the ratings driven media!

I think that this is more indicative of her LEADERSHIP AND DECISION MAKING ABILITY than any 3 AM wake up call advertisement or chest pounding about her "experience". We need a President ( and even a candidate) that has the ability to constantly assess information as it becomes available and respond accordingly. It is nothing more than arrogance and hubris that drives her to stay in the race, burning money that she doesn't have, in the face of overwhelming logic. Thank God we find this out now before it is too late. She talks about how deep her support is but the more telling litmus test is peoples unwillingness to support her where it actually matters. Enough is enough, Hillary. You are proving all your pundits right.

Q. hrc have you finally paid off your debt to the nyc deli owner who had to sue you?
Q. hrc were all of the unpaid "invoices" and non invoiced bills counted to arrive at this -$31m figure?
hell, i would run for president using someone else's dime.
your personal loans to your campaign will be written off as unpaid debts on your 2008 taxes, giving you an even larger tax deduction that you don't deserve.
keep on running to november, if you like. DO IT ON YOUR DIME

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democrat Barack Obama has opened an 8-point national lead on Republican John McCain as the U.S. presidential rivals turn their focus to a general election race, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.
Obama, who was tied with McCain in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup last month, moved to a 48 percent to 40 percent lead over the Arizona senator in May as he took command of his grueling Democratic presidential duel with rival Hillary Clinton."

I'm not even sure what an elite is-- maybe a politician who makes 100 million in five years from corporate greasing? (that would be Clinton) or someone who sits on the board union busting walmart? (Clinton). Or how about McCain? A former veteran who opposes educational benefits for our veterans. Perhaps you mean the well informed and blacks. This is what non-conservative politicians (and I include W. in that camp) do, folks - they spend other people's money to buy your votes today!
So far they've racked up a national debt of over 9 TRILLION dollars, plus an additional $53 TRILLION in unfunded "promises" for social security and medicare. But hey, they're going to take care of you!
Do you hear any of the three candidates talking about how they're going to dig us out of this hole? Of course not. Instead, you hear about how you need "free" health care, college tuition, day care, blah, blah, blah.
Meanwhile, the dollar turns to dust before our very eyes, and we wonder why.

The Posters here sound like mindless cowards. This woman is trying to regain control of the White House -- gee, do you recall who it was who put us trillions of dollars into debt? Clinton years were peace and prosperity. Guess we could hide our heads in the sand and forget all that while another regime takes over the White House and succeeds in making us a third world country. It's too bad this campaign had to cost so much, but you shouldn't criticize someone for giving it her all for what she believes in and wants. Yeah, maybe she should issue $600 checks to every tax payer... idiots...

Even Hillary supporters have to say that if she doesn't pay this money back, at minimum to the vendors she owes money to, she not only shouldnt be president - she shouldnt be a senator either - thats stealing. Anyone who supports this activity should send Hillary a check now and put your money where your mouth is to help her pay this debt.

This woman is delusional and hell bent on getting the nomination or destroying Obama's chances of winning the Presidency. She is in so much debt; how could she possibly make the case that she can help Americans when it comes to the ECONOMY? She likes to hearken back to the Clinton years when we (Americans) saw prosperity but much of that prosperity was due to Silicon Valley and the computer/internet boom. Meanwhile the REAL nominee continues to raise money. Barrack has raised MORE MONEY THAN ANY CANDIDATE IN THE HISTORY OF CAMPAIGNING! The guy has raised over one quarter of a BILLION DOLLARS! And Hillary, well SHE'S $31 MILLION in DEBT! This speaks VOLUMES and it tells me that the people have spoken. If I were John McCain I would be REALLY WORRIED.

Big deal; its not like Hillary or her husband have any shortage of money, and if she wants to spend it this way, its really not an issue of particular concern. Obama, in the meantime, had better start sucking up to Clinton,s supporters, particularly older women, and dems in the rust belt -- the risk is that these people simply won't vote in November, and if they do, they'll effective handing the election to McCain. Ultimately, Obama needs to stop talking and deliver more solid, specific plans on issues like providing universal healthcare for segments of the population besides children -- something his rhetoric has yet to address.

Hello emotionally clouded Obama groupies:
Kentucky racist? Are Blacks who vote for Obama are just as racist?
How do you define racism?
If Condi Rice or Colin Powell were running, I bet a zillion dollars that Kentucky would vote for either of the those conservatives.
Obama is a raging socialist with charisma, albeit arrogant charisma.
And --- a vote for Obama will nudge the further decline of the USA. How many "wonderful and pure" socialists countries are there in this world?
North Korea? Cuba? China?
Obama is the ultimate used car salesman. And I believe Barak is THE self-loathing racist. And many elites and Blacks are self-loathing racists as well.
See you in church.
Posted by: Compton Jueto | May 21, 2008 at 06:23 AM

It's a shame that she continues to hurt the party.

Posted by: Irwan | May 21, 2008 at 06:31 AM
Now do you all understand why she's staying in it? The moment she throws in the towel, the significant money ceases, and the more she and Bill are on the hook for. Yes, she's in debt, but as long as she remains a "candidate", she can pay toward her debts with other people's money (how "progressive").
Despite what the media promotes, Obama won this weeks ago. She cannot catch him in pledged delegates (forget about the Supers, they WON'T split the party), and she knows it. She's staying in for 2 reasons, to keep the sucker money rolling in, and to position for 2012. And don't look for her to give any more than token support to Obama (think Gore in 2000 or Kerry in 2004). Running against him in 2012, whether he's perceived to be a good president or he's Jimmy Carter II, is an almost insurmountable task. Her only chance in 2012 is to run against President McCain, where she can conduct the standard class and race warfare for which her party is known.

Who, in the end, is going to pay for all of this?
Hillary's never-ending quest for whatever it is she is doing is costing a ton of money - money her campaign doesn't have. I am fine with her footing the bill personally, but I am not onboard with fundraisers or other tricks to help her offset her debt.
I feel sorry for the 'hard working Americans' who are being stiffed by her campaign. She's not working for you, she's working you over.

Yesterday morning on CNN, they did a profile on Clay, KY. The people in that town was so poor that it look like something you see in a movie with a coal miner look. Well that town is so poor that they interviewed some of the people in that town and they was talking about the candidates was not going to do anything for them. But one lady stated that the only thing she have is the "Lord Jesus". Whe I heard that it made me think about when Mr. Obama made that statement about people in Pennsylvania cling to "Guns and Religion". But he was called out of touch for that statement.
It funny how people that is struggling real bad, will not put there racism aside and do right for themselves. What is it that make people so ignorate? We've been talking about this racism and sexism for years. The bad do get no where! But if you like not able to live comfortable and like living in bad conditions then continue, but don't stop the dreams of others that want to live comfortable.
But everyone knows who has the last say so in this election. And its not people and it's not Washington, it will only be Jesus.
Last thing I would like to say, We need to stop saying God Bless American and say God Bless the World. Because around the world people of all races are going through horrible times. Little kids and adults being barried alive; children losing there parent from fighting in Wars across the land. People starving, and loosing everything they have.
Like it or not, Barack Obama will become the next President of the United States. And in another 4 years he'll be the greatest person in the World.
CHANGE IS ABOUT TO COME!

Ha....all of you are missing a critical point in all of this. Why is it that no one mentions how much she has decimated the state of New York? Her campaign issues pale in comparison to the financial disaster that has propagated under her rule. When she stumped in western NY to become Senator, she stated "and we'll bring 100,000 jobs to upstate NY!" Everyone bought it. Now WE have experienced her way of doing things, and warn the rest of you that this whole campaign debt issue is just another brick in the wall.

It's funny how Obama supporters and Hillary supporters used to argue fervently over who is a better candidate, with reasons to support each (usually the arguments were mud-slinging, but still...). Now the only people still posting for Hillary sound like conspiracy theorists: "Where does Obama's money come from????" and "The vast media conspiracy has handpicked Obama". The silence is deafening.
Posted by: Matt D | May 21, 2008 at 06:51 AM
In addition to deceit, here is just another one of Hillary's values, don't pay bills. The people who serviced her campaign (perhaps the white working class) need the money owed to them, especially in this economy, therefore she is cheating them by delaying payment. They should charge her interest and late fees. And she pulled the sex card. She will stop at nothing to get what she wants. You don't hear female CEOs whining. Once again no one would even know about Hillary if she wasn't married to Bill and she made it on his merits alone.

Great for the economy, we should do this every so often. Hopefully all of the calls are coming from us destinations and these campaigns aren't using people outside the us for their campaigning.
I have a suggestion, if the Democrats / Republicans don't want the process to drag on and criticize candidates for hanging on to long, why don't they just shorten the process. Encourage all of the states to be done in May or April. Other wise stop crying that someone is hanging on too long.
Something to think about.

The reason why Africa today is riddled with poverty and sickness is because of most of the people are uneducated and they shun change prefering to do things according to their reclusive and crude instincts. I moved to Kentucky from Africa and it didn't seem like I was in the so called United States of America that people rever from outside. I suddenly found myself surrounded by uneducated crude people driven by cultural and racial instincts instead of reason, intelect and education. Unlike in Africa, I found in Kentucky men, women, and children all tobacco smokers, amidist overwhelming education worldwide on the deadly effects of smoking. Just tells you what kind of people you're deading with, third rated, third-world-country kind of people, illiterate, driven by animal instincts, racially bigoted freaks. It is beyond reason it think that a candidate who cannot manage her own affairs and is in 31 million dollar debt can stand for the poor hardworking white Americans and manage the country's economy well. And yet bigoted Kentucky people driven by animal and racial insticts are so blind-folded and don't see anything wrong with that. Such are the people we have to deal with in November: the primitives of the African jungle or Kentucky/W.V jungle. These are the Pavlovian people who are guided by their racial insticts not by reason. We badly need people from developed counties visit Kentucky and orient these people to use of reason and education.

The type of fiscal irresposibility illustrated by the Clinton Campaign is hardly the kind of leadership that America needs right now. She brags that she took donations from children who sold their bicycles and video games. Has she no shame? Is this what American needs, a politician hustling the American people while she sinks further into debt, stiffs small business owners and pays the debt back with donations from working Americans? Hillary ran in the slogan that she was "ready on day 1"....well no offense, HILLARY WAS NOT READY ON DAY 1 NOR IS SHE READY ON DAY 371. It really is time to END THE DRAMA VOTE OBAMA. Clinton's vanity ride has no regard for the Democratic Party and no respect for the candidate who actually BEAT HER with a positive message. What she may gained in votes in APPALACHIA she lost far more alienating progressive voters all over this country by running a campaign that brough back the demons of JESSIE HELMS, GEORGE WALLACE, LEE ATWATER & KARL ROVE. There are some higher callings in life than satisfaction of Hillary's life long ambition. Some day, another woman will run, on her own merits, in an honorable way who will not have to dupe, deceive and defraud working class voters in order to gain a majority. Hillary Clinton is the wrong person at the wrong time.

Try imagining financial situation when Mrs. HRC is President. It would be worse than the current scenario of her campaign as, that time, she won't be lending her own money (or won't be able to because it might be in billions or trillions) also when this kind of financial mess the country would be in. I am able to see the kind of ability and "experience" that she has been talking about her candidacy.

O'Bama is in trouble.
He's a bird with a broken wing flapping around on the marble floor of the vestibule of power. The media
are being encouraging and giving him water...but he's lost his ability to fly.
Say what you want about Hillary. Since the halo has been knocked off O'Bama's head, his numbers are in the tank.
How can the "presumptive nominee" get pasted so badly again and again without
the hagiographic fawning praise to ring obviously hollow?
The question of the delegate math is coming into focus. The idea that the superdelegates should all fall in line to avoid civil war leads to an inescapable narrow pass for Democrats everywhere.
If O'Bama is seen as unelectable, what to do?
November is a hundred years away, but tell me why O'Bama is losing. Hillary and Bill pulled him off his pedestal and down into the dirt. They scuffed him up, and he can no longer pretend to be above politics.
If all those voters from Iowa on had known what they know now, would they have voted for him? No way Jose.
And now that the voters know what they know...and perhaps with more coming...will they vote for him in November?
It's looking really good for McCain.
Is Hillary hiving off a huge swath of voters to have to power to force her way onto the ticket? Or is she fatally injuring O'Bama while preparing to take on McCain in 2012? Or is she positioning herself to be capable, at the convention, of going to all the superdelegates to say, "Look, Obama was a wonderful dream...but he's not cutting it. He's vulnerable to Republican attacks. He's got a glass jaw. Too many constituencies he absolutely needs are not there for him."
Maybe, just maybe the Clintons can pull it off. I wouldn't have thought so two weeks ago...but just look what's happening, kiddies....
O'Bama is not looking like a winner any more. Who cares if Hillary spends another $20 Million? It's chump change. Bill can go
and make a speech or lobby for a foreign government. And she can easily borrow against her future speaking and publishing
opportunities.
This is about the main chance...and I think they see an opening, and they might be right.

Funny, a poster said "(thank you Kentucky for proving that racism still is alive in 2008). "
I am a republican, so I guess anyone that doesn't vote for Obama, is a "racist". That is a strong word to just throw around. I guess that will be the talking point when Obama faces McCain... So, all McCain supporters will be racist or bigots to HUH? I just find it funny that is a tactic used by dems to call republicans but, your calling it on fellow democrats hahahahahahha. Racism is still alive but you can't just assume that since I am not voting for Obama that I am a racist... Got to do better than that libs!!!

Great ROLE MODEL for America.. Get into debt! The real story about Hillary is that she has been in NY State for 8 years and has done squat to create job where she promised, and has allowed Medicare to spiral out of control proving she has no clue how to contain health care costs. Hillary is not a contender - she is a pretender.

According to what I read They made a bookkeeping error of about 30%. ... And you want this group to be in charge of the country's spending?, and our taxes?, and our budget?

A person who can't manage the finances of a campaign should be elected to 'clean up' the federal deficit? Delusional doesn't begin to describe her or the people who support her.

Yeah, HRC is the right person for the job of President, one that dictates being fiscally conservative and able to balance a budget, one that is able to know you cannot over spend money you do not have, one that is able to demonstrate personal ethics strong enough to never screw all over those many vendors who have not and probably will never get paid for all of their hard work.
Right?
WRONG. She is at it again. MORE millions in campaign fraud tossed into the war chest from the last 8 years of her crap.
FYI, she is going to jail soon. She has a date with the coutroom coming SOON this October 2008, and try as hard as she and her scumbag hubby Billy Bob Clitman have done so far, it will NOT be dismissed or swept under the rug.
WHY do they continue to burn all of their previous supporters? Is this REALLY who we want for the highest office in the world, a known criminal who has, up to this point in time, gotten away with massive amounts of general fraud, campaign fraud, stealing from our national archives (something that has never happened before!), dozens of sex scandals, and worst of all, MURDER. Vince Foster was murdered, plain and simple. Period.
The chickens will come home to roost, REAL SOON for the Clitmans, and now we as their prior supporters can offer both of them a lovely parting gift - jewely. Yes, a beautiful his and hers matching set of nickel-plated handcuffs.
NOBODY IS ABOVE THE LAW!
Do a web search using the key words PETER PAUL TRIAL and you will find numerous YouTube videos will real, factual data on one of the Clitman's most passionate former supporters, one who raised MILLIONS of dollars for HRC's campaign war chest, and yet HRC claimed zero, nada, zip on legal documents for her campaign. That is fraud, plain and simple.
BUSTED!
Meanwhile, her pigheaded stubborness has cost O'Bama the election.
Say hello to President John McCain. Hillary, you stupid, stupid fool. You never DID know when to give up, even when you have been beaten very badly, with lots of public humiliation involved. She will NEVER, EVER be president, I can assure you that! Her "career" is over, stillborn, before it really got off the ground.
Wave goodbye to the criminals, America! This will be the last year you see them in public for a very long time.
Buh-BYE, scumbags! CYA in 10-20 years!

Not so fast. What 31 million debt? Care to independently audit, historically document and sign your reputation away on this latest Clintonian 'self disclosure'? Mixing and spinning reality and fiction, the Clintons make do to profit, profit and profit for themselves, this alone and nothing else. West Virginians, Kentuckians and many other good-hearted souls who just don't see through the Clinton's high-stakes political narcissism, lifestyle and snake-oil salesmanship, will continue to be enticed to subsidize it with their non-tax-exempt contributions.

Yea the LA times got the amount wrong, by like 11 Million. I also like the excuse of we added the debt 2 x. Um I'm not Ph. D in math but isn't 20 Million x 2 actually 40 Million.
Her and slick willy had 110 million in taxible income 2007 meaning that she is far from out of money, just can't give herself any more money.
Someone explain the logic. You not allowed to give yourself over X amount of personal cash for your own campaign, but you can fleece it from people that may never get paid. I love clinton-nomics. Don't worry when she gets to office by pulling her supa dupa delegate cards she'll just tax the hell out of us to pay down the 9 Trillion dollar deficit we have that GW ran up just like here hubby did. I love both parties.

Correct me if I'm wrong but these people are spending millions upon millions to win an office that pays, at best, around $400K annual salary. Umm, where's the logic? You see it's not about the politics but the money. You read right, IT'S ABOUT THE MONEY!! Let's face it, all three of the candidates are greedy, GREEDY. Obama Bin Laden, GREEDY. Hillary Rodham Clinton, GREEDY GREEDY GREEDY. John McCain, GREEDY GREEDY GREEDY. The race should be run on a very minimal campaign using Public free time on tv, i'm sure they still do that. Posting free ads in newspapers and magazines. Even the greatest wonder of them all, THE INTERNET. YOUTUBE will let you air a ten minute video for free, FREE. and guess what not a one of these things costs. You book arenas for your supporters, why when you can use a community center to rally your voters. It may take more time to reach the constituency but hey isn't politics about meeting the people one on one? These people squander money of hard working people just so they can travel in luxury and make payoffs to delegates and superdelegates to get a nomination. Why should I care about how much money they spend? WHY? Because as a taxpayer, some of that is my money. They are all SELF SERVING ELITISTS with no respect for the American people.

Spending herself ever deeper into debt while stubbornly pursuing a goal that can't be attained? It reminds me so much of George W. Bush.

she should pay her debts with all the money in her huge bank account. bubba boffs interns

Hey, I've donated over 200 dollars to Obama, but enough of the Hillary Bashing. In the end, we're in this together.
It is completely Okay to loan yourself money for a campaign.

"INVESTIGATE ALL THESE $25 obama donations
ITS ALL SOROS and CHICAGO MOB MONEY"
I gave Obama about 25 bucks. So did a few of my friends, a few of their friends, and a few of their friends. It's amazing what a large number of people can acomplish if they all kick in and all it took was... the Chicago mob holding guns to our heads? Nah, I'm pretty sure it was hope =-)

Yep, I gave $25.00 to Obama too. And I have NEVER donated to a political cause before. Hope and Change.

Hillary calls and ask me for $200 a whop! I can hardly afford gas and heat in my home since BGE deregulated. I used to send her what I could, but they still beg for no less than $200! I have contributed to Obama now, and I send what I can afford. There isn't pressure to send huge sums of money. I know so many regular people that are contributing to his campaign, because they can afford to. The money seems like a relevant investment in a candidate that is more alligned with us "normal" people, not the top 1%.
I agree with someone on here that says Hillary is taking money from the DNC by staying in. Her going into so much debt clearly shows that she is unable to manage money, and will probably not be able to manage the huge Bush/Cheney/Iraq debt that will strangle future generations of our children (born and unborn)...Why is she doing this, when there are other candidates that need this money, and she can work as a party unifier instead of an albatross? This is so typical of politics as usual in DC...I am glad that an unconventional politician is staving off the efforts of upside down money draws, and lobbyist (Black/McCain)...Washington DC shouldn't be up for the highest bidder. It should be for the people, by the people.
For those that think the $25 dollar contributions are by mobsters, how about all those contributions to other politicians, and past presidents that have been contributed by dream stealers like Enron, a
