John McCain starting to focus on a veep pick

Republican John McCain is making a list.

A long one. Of potential running mates.

McCain, speaking with reporters aboard his campaign bus today, also spoke by telephone with radio talk show host Don Imus. McCain said his staff has started compiling a list of possible running mates and is having the choices vetted.

The list holds about 20 names, he said –- not in a sharing mood.

“It’s every name imaginable,’’ he said.

Really? Jeb Bush? Condoleezza Rice? Jesse Ventura?

“I'm aware of the enhanced importance of this issue given my age," McCain, 71, quipped. “I’d like to get it done as early as possible.’’

'i'm aware of the enhanced importance of this issue given my age,' mccain, 71, quipped. i'd like to get it done as early as possible.'
does this mean mccain already gave away the plan that schedules his resignment soon after his installation in office, to hand over the white house to whatever neocon 'puppet' otherwise even less conceivable or negotiable than himself, might be selected to be his vp? and he couldn't care less who that might be, it's probably none of his business, and he figures they'd tell him soon enough.

Really dave? its been planned all along for mccain to be nearly out of the campaign in the summer, have things go 'miraculously' his way and win a tough nomination, that was contended until march 22nd, and all that after failing to get the nomination in 2000, is just a plot by 'neo-cons' to 'install' a president? I think the best course of action would be for you to take a step back and get in touch with reality. And then try to understand what the word 'quip' means. After I've written all this, I am convinced you must be joking, good show!

it is often in jest or in anger that people have the laxness or temerity to give away information they might otherwise prefer and/or remember not to. still, i do not 'believe in miracles' and don't exclude the possibility of several, alternative plots. all part of the bigger plot. and my observation is from a position not only geographically, but also emotionally detached enough for me to include some thoughts that might otherwise be deemed 'risky' or even offensive by your common 'thought police.' and it's rather amusing to note that having equipped this blog with all that, you signed not macolam but scott. y- wanna beam me up?

Andrew MalcolmAndrew Malcolm's immigrant parents repeatedly stressed the importance of active participation in a democracy. Early lessons included learning the alphabetical list of states by watching televised roll calls of national political conventions. That childhood exposure led to a lifelong fascination with politics, including 40-plus years of covering them and a brief stint practicing them as press secretary to Laura Bush in 1999-2000. A veteran foreign and national correspondent, Malcolm served on the Times Editorial Board and was a Pulitzer finalist in 2004. He is the author of 10 nonfiction books and father of four.
