Charlton Heston dies! Hollywood's GOP population plummets 25%
According to the homepage on this website, someone named Charlton Heston died Saturday at the age of 84. Daily Kos reports the "great actor and gun nut" died. TopNews of India reports "Hollywood star and gun lobbyist" dies.
Obviously, this is another one of those Internet frauds because the Charlton Hesto
n that many of us knew is indestructible, which is what made his famous "from my cold, dead hands" line so chilling.
He was, in life, larger than life. So it follows that he is also larger than death.
It was simply inconceivable, him having survived the flight from Egypt and those power-crazed simians and those wars. Not to mention the chariot race while sweating that much and never once looking into the camera. Which was, by the way, mounted exactly where on the chariot?
Heston is was an actor. So, technically, he's not supposed to be in a political blog. But we've had Magic and we've had the Cheers guy and his latest wife and we've had the supreme leader of the Oprah cult. We even had wrote about Bo Derek once.
But when 25% of Hollywood's conservative Republicans die in one night, that's real political blog news. (Let us know below who you think the other three are.)
You can read that alleged obituary if you want and even believe it and click through the photo gallery, too, for old time's sake. He sure looks a lot larger than 6-2, doesn't he?
But now we've discovered proof that he's not really gone.
You can still listen to him say some of his most famous lines right here. Anytime you want. But be careful. Sometimes Moses doth sweareth.
What other proof do you need that He lives on?

i used to see mr heston at the ahmanson theatre in downtown los angeles. he had season tickets on the same nites we attended. we had some small talk with him during intermission and he was most friendly but this was before his guntoting days! but what i remember most about mr heston is the awfull hairpiece and im certain that at times he wore it backwards! well i guess now he is part of the dying gop party which never was more than 4 persons in hollywood anyway!

In 1950's I produced a radio interview show on NBC WMAQ, from the "Chez Paree," night club. Heston made several appearances. He was the ultimate gentleman and most considerate of the many celebrities we interviewed. Will not forget him!

How very, very sad that Mr. Heston receives such little respect from you upon his death. And why? Because he committed the only "sin" in Hollywood worthy of ridicule and scorn - being a Republican. Shame on you. A man who contributed so much to film history has died and the best you can muster is cheap jokes. This man has a family who loved him, you know. Grow up.

Let us remember Mr. Heston without resorting to mean-spirited political blows -- unless you're willing to do it about everyone else in Hollywood and especially those who enjoy government-paid residences in totalitarian Cuba. How tacky can you get?

god save us from every rightwinger who will now come forth like they did after john wayne & saint ronnie croaked, and probably insist they rename LAX after their gun-gripping icon.

Now can we pry the gun from his cold dead hands?
Posted by: J & B | April 06, 2008 at 09:31 AM
I guess we can finally pry the gun away.

I wonder if it was difficult prying the gun from his cold, dead hands.

Take down that stupid reader's quote under your headline about Charlton. It is degrading!!!

In S. Cal. where your word is only as good as the length of time of a news story or pop fad to wane...Charlton Heston stuck by his beliefs, his wife and his country for over half a century. No wavering, no wining, just a belief is what was common sense. I never met him but I will miss him and long live the 2nd ammendment.

I too saw Mr. Heston at the Ahmanson Theater more than 25 years ago. He was a complete class act who played to the audience, not to himself. That I could remember his performances 25+ years later speaks volumes about Mr. Heston. May God bless your family and friends.

While Mr. Heston was a Conservative in his later years, you forgot to mention that he was quite a Liberal back in the day. He was one of the rare Hollywood star's who actually marched with Dr. Martin Luther King in the South and was quite active in the Civil Rights movement.
Many idealistic young men and woman are Liberal, but switch to Conservative when they finally realize that Liberalism is a dead end street if you believe in Free Speech and the rights of man. Just as Mr. Heston did.

I always thought he was a comedian.

Did they pry the gun from his hands.

I have never meant Mr. Heston personally, but his life has had a profound effect on mine. I will surely miss this man who new what family meant. He seemed to live life with zest and never looked back.To me he was more than an actor.
My condolences to his family.

He will be missed. As a larger than life figure before actors and actresses became the type of folks you are glad don't live nearby. An actor from a bygone age, reflecting bygone values. A tireless defender of rights - civil and constitutional. And a good guy. And I don't even own a gun! Most, I should say, on the left have shown respectful disagreements in light of his death (a far cry from the frenzied 90s when Heston was treated like so many on the right, as barely better than Hitler). Though I will never get over Clooney mocking Heston's ailment (probably because my family has suffered from it as well). Goodbye Charlton, you and the era you represented will be missed.

As a lifelong fan of Mr. Heston, who had the great privilege and joy of SEEING HIM IN PERSON many times, he was so kind and gracious to fans besides being such a marvelous actor and family man. My sympathy to his family on whom he doted. He was so devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren. He was my favorite actor. Mr. Heston is a national treasure.

CHARLTON HESTON WAS A GREAT MAN!!!! ANY ONE WHO KNEW HIM WOULD SAY THE SAME!!! I LOVE HIM AND HIS FAMILY. ANY ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE NEGATIVE THINGS TO SAY ABOUT HIM SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEM SELVES!!!

Its a shame that someone as great as Heston is trashed as much as he is here. Charlton Heston was a supporter of rights...for everyone. He marched with Dr. Martin Luther King in DC, and was a defender of Civil Rights long before it was politically correct to do so. While a great American, he was very much against the Viet Nam War. I'm not sure that he was that much Conservative in his later years, as he was just a defender of the Constitution....and that, we should all be. Yes, you can now "pry that gun from his cold dead hands..." but you better hold on to it. The next round of politicians are waiting in the wings to take it from YOU!! R.I.P Chuck...we will carry on your legacy.

The degree to which the left easily and happily stoops upon the death of a truly good and decent man illustrates the inherent lack of ordinary common decency typical of the left.
The ironic thing is Mr. Heston would - and did - actively help and sincerely pray for anyone needing it, no matter their political beliefs, which makes the left's behavior even more pathetic.
He also understood the Judeo-Christian principals on which this great nation was founded, believed deeply in them and worked to keep them first and foremost in his life and in his work, despite - and probably because of - Hollywood's apparent determination to do anything and all things counter to them.
As for supporting the right to bear arms, Mr. Heston knew full well the 2nd Amendment is more about the right of the people to defend themselves against an oppressive government than it is about engaging in hunting or "shooting sports," a distinction Hollywood can barely understand, let alone cope with (while yet using every type of firearm imaginable and in large numbers to portray as many murders and killings as possible on film and in television, all in the name of the Almighty dollar).
If the Hollywoood left doesn't want people killed by guns, all they'd have to do is stop depicting unmitigated violence in their so-called works of art (God forbid!) and stop throwing the gates open to the millions of illegals, who - along with their American-born children - seem to take the film industry at face value by accounting for about 85+% of the gun-related murders taking place every day in this country. One careful look at Los Angeles Times' own "Homocide Blog" will reveal exactly who is doing the killing - and they definitely are n-o-t "Americans," despite liberal stataticians who love calling them that.
I think this is why liberals are so frequently referred to as hypocrites, because they actively contribute to overwhelming problems with their own behavior and policies (violence and back-stabbing as a central theme to most all entertainment, weak national defense, "sanctuary" cities, high taxes, revolving-door justice, social programs designed to perpetuate problems instead of solving them), then seek to blame others for the results. Its been going on since before the Civil War. Let's not forget it was the Democrats who wanted to keep slavery legal, and the Republicans who wanted it outlawed. Just read (real) history books, not the liberal crackpot versions being issued to California schools these days.
May God Bless Charlton Heston, and may the liberals who scorn and mock him today be made to see the error of their morally vacant ways tomorrow.
