Poll shows Rev. Jeremiah Wright hurting Barack Obama

Who knows how long the Rev. Jeremiah Wright brouhaha will play out, but revelations of Barack Obama's pastor's objectionable sermons have apparently eroded public perceptions of Obama, according to a fresh analysis by the Rasmussen Report tracking poll.

With the Wright episode playing out over the past few days, the poll found Obama's favorable rating nationally had dropped five points to 47% since Thursday, and his unfavorable rating had risen from 44% to 50%. Among white voters, the unfavorable numbers jumped to 54%. The poll also found John McCain leading both Obama and Hillary Clinton in head-to-head national matchups, whereas a week ago they they were essentially tied.

Of course, the Democrats have to pick between Obama and Clinton before the head-to-head matters, which is as unresolved as ever. This is beginning to feel a little bit like Florida 2000, when the nation suddenly learned the meaning of arcane terms like "hanging chad." This time around, we're becoming experts on Democratic superdelegates, while trying shake off images of well-fed Democrats in tights and capes.

The folks at MSNBC's First Read  point out that although Hillary Clinton leads Barack Obama in superdelegates -- something we dissected earlier today day -- she hasn't picked up any fresh superdelegates since Super Tuesday. In fact, First Read's count shows Obama gained 47 superdelegates since then while Clinton lost seven -- including former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer.

So, what does that mean? Uncertainty about Clinton by party insiders while Obama was running up a dozen victories in a row? A desire to wait and see if a wind is blowing in any discernible direction by convention time in August? A look over in the other lane at McCain's taillights?

Hard to say. But what is intriguing is how the narrative of the campaign has inverted itself. Remember when the Republicans were splintered and unhappy with their candidates, and the Democrats united in their confidence of winning the White House? Now the Democrats are split, the tone has become nastier, and with war sputtering on and the economy causing all sorts of indigestion, the political discourse is being dominated by race and gender.

Who says politics is boring?

The truth is we can not really discuss reality! Its not politically correct to do that! So lets just keep pretending that Chimpy has been doing a great job! Are you kidding me, Chimpy old stick is a one man train wreck! We as a nation are almost bankrupt, and of course the average American citizen is clueless. 8 out of 10 people when asked who was the Vice President of the United States had no idea. Many thought it was the guy named Rumsfeld!

Anyone having done research on this story who still supports Obama is a kool aid drinker. It is incredulous to think in nearly 20 years Obama or his wife had not heard or heard of Mr. Wright in hate filled action. Just the fact of his sticking around and still supporting Mr. Wright while trying to disavow narrow statements shows a complete lack of judgement OR Obama's real feelings. Either way he is not fit to be president. To all of you who thought this guy was special, you have been hoodwinked...bamboozled to the nth degree. Time to come back to reality. A political savior maybe out there. We now know for certain (some of us knew a long time ago) that Obama is not it.

the race of and to power has its own code of (mis)behavior ruled by untainted, pragmatic brutality that is not only color blind, but also blindfolded like the goddess of justice herself. in this race 'anything goes' as long as deng xiaoping's rule applies: 'i don't care if it's a white cat or a black cat. it's a good cat so long as it catches mice.'
for the 'owner,' of course. so the cat, like the mouse,
is always on the run. and even when they take turns, and seem to be heading in different directions, they're running the same way, just the same. or so it seems.
to the 'owner,' of course.

Bottom line, it's all over for Obama. The question simply is how it will end.

Amazing.

The Obama is over" talk is nonsense.

It's one thing is Wright advocated the harm of any person,

It's completely another thing to espouse thoughts that advocate a dissatisfaction with your government and the treatment of the people in your congregation.

Mr. Wright never advocated violence or a superiority of one race over another. That's just a plain fact that all these wishful thoughts of the anti-Obama crusade can't seem to get.

For all of their wishful hatred at a man, whose whole sermons none of them as heard, their projections of Mr. Obama's ouster is sad in a simple sense - disturbing as a greater whole.

I simply think Mr. Obama outgrown Mr. Wright's dogma. People do still outgrow their places in life.

Will mr. Obama lose votes as a result? Sure. Some peole were looking for an excuse not to vote from him in fear of being called racist.

And some people we jump on board because - if you actually heard any of mr. Wright's sermons in full measure - he just espouses the tenents of Progressives everywhere.

It's not over by Obama by a long shot. He and his party will be fine. The speech scheduled tomorrow morning is the beginning of adrressing the 800 pound gorilla in this election - race.

This has no effect on me. I'm still going to vote for Obama G** Da** It!

This is an interesting situation for a few different reasons. First, most black americans know the reverend's comments to be the truth--they essentially cataloged the lived experience of most black americans. Second, I find it interesting that white americans dismiss his sermon, the one I have already said truly does represent the "real lived experience of the most black americans today as baseless and unpatriotic. This is absolutely ridiculous. Does a black man have to forget and distance himself from his "real lived" experience to be a viable candidate in this country? As long as white people equate talking about the lived experience of black people as unpatriotic or racist, nothing, i say nothing will ever change in this country because I am here to tell you--those who don't know what black people are still dealing with, trying to get a fair shake, are writing the kinds of responses I see above are the one's making all the decisions in this country. I am ashamed that so many people still dismiss the real lived experiences of other citizens.

It's hard for me to believe EIGHT out of TEN people don't know who the vice prez is. In fact nearly impossible for me to believe.

Are you sure of those facts?

BO sure made a bad judgment call w/ that pastor. WHAT was he thinking? We'll see what he has to say for himself tomorrow.

Funny how white men aren't allowed to say "blllliiinnnkkk" when they sneeze without being called racists, but a half-black man can be a member of a Church of Black, dedicated to the damnation of European White America and only 5% of voters think this is of any relevance...If a white man says the Jews turned their back on a Jew named Jesus, he is labaelled an antisemitic individual to be condemned by society, but a black man can say that a Jew was black man and the helping of the other Jews is why America deserved 9/11 and only 5% of voters think this is of any relevance...

Enough already about race Americans...grow up and get over it. With your economy tanking and Americans being forced out of their homes can't you guys get back to issues that are really hurting your nation. Come on American media you are feeding it...please start to introduce more opportunities to get the issues on your airwaves and in your newspapers. You all are the laughing stock of the world that looking on in disgust!!!

Any white American who votes for B. Hussein O. is an idiot. It's sad to think that the white children in college that are for him haven't had any life experience to be able to see that he's a liar and a racist. Hopefully his flowery words tomorrow will finally be the demise of his campaign, and then we can all sigh with relief.

Wright is a human being who has, in his lifetime, seen staggeringly atrocious examples of blatant and systematic racism and violence. I do not find it particularly shocking that he has certain choice words for America or that he still harbours some bitterness. I have not heard anyone actually claim that Obama was anti white, particularly given his upbringing with his stated affection for his white mother and grandparents. I also think it is the height of hypocrisy to be so damning of Obama for daring to have so much as a connection with Wright when Byrd of West Virginia, who once said, “Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds” is actually still serving in congress.

To whom this may concern. As a gentile also known as a child of god because of my salvation with the lord jesus christ It is written in psalms 53:1 The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God" They are corrupt, and have done abominable iniquity. Theres is none that does good.
Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? but only God. 1 Thessalonians 5:21: "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.Matthew 24:38, 39: "For as in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage up to the day Noah entered the Ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away." We are in our last days. Barack Obamas pastor spewing venom and not the love of christ is this is an Apostasy
Daniel 11:32: "And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.
Social Gospel? Where in the Bible does it say Social Gospel....Jesus said in Mark 16:15 "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature NOT SOCIAL GOSPEL If this pastor is going to preach hatred come judgment day he will be accountable for every action, word or intent to preach a false gospel. Paul writes in galatians 1:6-9 that there will be those who twist the gospel of christ and if they preach any other gospel let them be accursed.
Listen i have a relationship with Jesus Christ and Lord and Savior ...Religion has been twisted by man through out ages this is nothing new thats satans tactic Jesus is coming soon if everyone on this earth has repented of there sins and ask jesus christ as there lord and personal savior they shall see the 7 year tribulation of the anti christ.

Shalom, with gods love

The Clintons are more than happy to stand silent and watch the damage done to Obama. However, if the Clintons were truly fit to run this country-easing racial tension would be a priority. Any one who has studied the Black experience in this country knows that the Wright-sentiment exists, more prominantly among older Blacks. This racial divide threatens us from the inside out. This is a test for Hillary. If she shows that she can allievate this current Wright problem, then I would believe she stands for all people. However, if she is silent and only tries to profit from the issue, she is not fit to run our country.

why does anyone think that this dooms obama? this is all very normal. are white americans so out of touch, so oblivious that they don't realize that 1) nothing that rev. wright is saying is really that bold or new? in fact, surely much, if not all, of it is rehashed; 2) a lot of what he's saying is true; and 3) none of it matters?

wright does not speak for obama. by him not crucifying wright, it only shows loyalty. blacks are still not on a level playing field with whites, no matter how you personally feel on the subject. there's plentyyyyyyyyyyyy of evidence to support this. wright is saying things that empower fairly conservative, religious blacks. obama goes to church, maybe only so that he looks good to the moral majority. bush sends thousands of minorities to die for personal financial gain, and mccain would have them there for ten thousand years. who's racist?

I am white and speaking about white churchs and people. My wife was told by the Bapist sundyschool supertendent if she voted for Bill Clinton she would go to hell. Now I here deacons and members of the Bapist Church say all Muslems should be killed. Bapist do not like Catholets. It goes on and on. We all have baggagein our church and the black churchs are no different. Let it rest. Yes I am a Bapist, WE ARE NOT PERFECT> Who do we want to blame.

What is wrong with people. Obama and Wright are TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE! I don't care if Wright baptised his children or was his spiritual adviser, Obama DOES NOT think the same way Wright does and it is very ignorant to hang someone with this guilt by association crap. If you feel you were hoodwinked by Obama, you weren't very sure of your vote anyway, but to hang the guy because HIS PASTOR said some pretty terrible things, is just as prejudicial as what your claiming Wright/Obama of doing.

There are manu disenfranchised black people in this country ansd to pretend like racial prejudice isn't in America is just being blind. Why aren't other candidates scrutinized like this over what one of their surrogates said?

Does that mean that Hillary will cheat on Bill just because he did it to her? Does that mean that Hillary isjust as slick as Bill because they were married? Hell NO, so why does Obama get blamed for something he clearly is not.

He's half white, so I guess he prejudiced against himself as well. Gimme me a break!

It's just a guess, but I assume all of those bashing Obama for remarks his pastor made to be supporters of Hillary Clinton. I don't see this affecting Obama in a real and long term way. People should be more concerned about Hillary Clinton trying to change the rules of the Democratic Primary. She's quietly trying to cheat. She runs her campaign like she would run the country. Lies to fit her need. What a terrible person! Just remember as much as the Clinton campaign wants you to believe that they ahead in this race, they are not and have not been for weeks.

I know it's hard for some americans to relate to some of the views of some of the African American churches. Unforunately for those who do not understand the culture, it's never intended to ever hurt anyone our language although I feel you are just not trying to understand. Is to impower black people, when you are so separated from so much we feel we need guidance. And it is not for white america to tell us what direvtion were going in that's our destiny.

Rev. Wright, ultimately a pointless side show mostly serving McCain and Hillary in the race, either has an IQ of 37 (which I doubt) or saw a chance to promote himself at the expense of the Obama campaign. Looks like it worked.

So much for Barak crossing a dopey, soon-to-be-forgotten speedbump, but I suspect his momentum will loom large again when he eats McCain alive in this fall's debates, unless those familiar and ugly forces of fascism intervene. Alas, alak, they are legion, well practiced, and far more adept at destroying good men and women with a real vision than Rev. Wright ever dreamed.

Poll: Majority of Democrats prefer Obama
CNN - 3 hours ago
A new poll out Monday shows Democrats prefer Sen. Obama over Sen. Clinton to win the nomination. Fifty-two percent of registered Democrats questioned in a ...
According to the poll by CNN and Opinion Research Corporation, about 52 percent of registered Democrats picked the Illinois senator as their choice for the November national election, while 45 percent supported the New York senator.

Among 1,019 Americans surveyed by telephone from March 14 to 16,45 percent said they are more enthusiastic about Obama's victory in the presidential nominee race, and 38 percent expected Clinton's win.

This country does not deserve a Barrack Obama. Instead, you should get a McCain or Hickory! Go ahead and pay higher gas prices - drink your ethenol - pay higher food prices - lose your homes - both CNN and Fox News could'nt care less. They have their insurance and their big paychecks. I can't believe how stupid people are! The news media rides a dead horse into the ground and isn't smart enough to know the horse is dead and it's time to walk. It's a long, long time until the next election. People - wake up and vote smart. God help this poor nation.

Both Reverend Wright's heated comments and Mrs. Obama's stinging remarks from a couple weeks ago make me wonder where Obama really stands on these issues. How could he remain unaffected by them - if he attended Wright's church service and is married to his wife? Is this all flamed by campaign politics or are these really their true beliefs?

LISTEN PEOPLE...WE ALL KNOW THEIR IS A PROBLEM WITH RACE IN THE GREAT LAND OF AMERICA..However, were do we draw the line for whom is responsible for the race issue. Mr. Obama for certain has heard racial view form both sides of our society. He is not responsible for how every individual views America, he is responsible for making sound decisions. He is only one man, For instance, he received negative and positive information about going to war with Iraq and still made a sound decision contrary to the majority. I believe he doesn't have to agree with a persons views but some how that same person can find common ground in Barrak's views. He is what we need in our current times, sound decisions and the capabilities to combine negative and positive information in a manner to create a platform strong enough for all to stand on. Pastor Wright made his own bed, let him lay in it.

This is a really terrible time for Obama. He has to explain his church and his relationship with the pastor in great detail. I am seeing it on these message boards; the very people who voted for him are starting to lose faith in what he offers the country. In case you didn't know it, this is OBAMA's SWIFTBOAT- this attack came directly from the Republicans and it is a good one with the ability to SINK his campaign. The thing you have to focus on IS because the Republicans have said this does it make it TRUE- does it make Obama a different candidate from the one you knew before. Was John Kerry different in his being after they ran the swiftboat ads? No, he was the SAME patriot he has always been. This country fell for Republican dirty tricks and lost the election in 2004. Are you going to fall for them again? Are you going to think that Obama HATES his WHITE MOTHER who gave him life and his WHITE GRANDPARENTS who raised him? Take out his pastor's inflammatory language and get to the core TRUTHS he is espousing. America has made foreign policy decision that have maimed and killed people living outside of this country (this is FACT). We are doing this right now in IRAQ. His pastor believes us being attacked on 9/11 was retaliation for our foreign policy decisions that have killed and maimed- think about it for a second- IS that assertion really so out of the ball park? Don't we WANT a foreign policy that is JUST for all of humankind? One that WILL ENSURE we are not hated enough to be attacked in the outrageous way we were on 9/11? If you as a white person can truly think for a second and try to join your black brothers and sisters (we are ALL HUMAN BEINGS) in this journey and I KNOW you have the decency in you to understand- BLACK AMERICANS have had to LOVE this country when it DID NOT LOVE US. This is the ULTIMATE ACT of love for your country. THAT is the BLACK EXPERIENCE. WHITE People do not have that UNIQUE experience. In the pastor's words WHITES hear HATRED because that has been your experience- to hate and terrorize black americans from slavery to Jim Crow. If you listen closer, you will find what you ACTUALLY hear is ANGER at being SOUGHT OUT for the bad things in country and being EXCLUDED from the good things in the United States. ANGER comes from injustices. If you dig deep into your souls, you know that we can address these SOCIAL INJUSTICES so we can become the HUMAN FAMILY. Whites seems to think Obama sat there day after day and absorbed HATRED or even ANGER- Have you EVER thought he sat there day after day and said I WILL REPAIR this breach of TRUST that has occured between America and its citizens AND Americans of different races. Obama has said his presidency could bring about racial reconciliation and he is abosolutely RIGHT but do you think it will be easy? Of course not, we as Americans will have to face some UGLY truths about America and then seek to stamp them out. This is our chance to make a MORE PERFECT UNION- one where Pastor Wright can ONLY say GOD BLESS AMERICA for the way she has served her citizens. Are you going to let the REPUGNICANS take this away from you? They WILL you saw it in 2004!!!!!!!!!!! OBAMA 08!!!!!!!

Barack Obama have the strength of character to weather this storm and CREATE A MORE PERECT UNION in the vein of the GREAT AMERICAN Presidents that have come before you- Lincoln, Roosevelt, Kennedy....

Senator Obama's denunciation of Rev. Wright's comments, but not the man himself is a piece of political gymnastics worthy of a gold medal. How is it that one sits in the pews of such a man's church for nearly twenty years and DOESN'T find sympathy with the man's bigotry, never mind hear a good bit of it. Personally, I can't think of one upstanding man or woman who, upon hearing such vile invective spew forth wouldn't have stood up, marched out, and never turned back. You are the company you keep, and I think we're starting to get a pretty good idea of what kind of man Barack Obama is, and frankly, it's not pretty.

It sounds like a good many people posting here are not black, and have never attended a black church. I'm a retired white guy and three times in my adult life I was invited to attend services in an "Afro-Centric" church.

Now, I'm from New England, a protestant, and tend to take my religion somewhat seriously. I was not prepared for nor was I comfortable attending those churches. All three times the preachers railed against people and government policies that tended to keep the black man in his place.

I didn't like listening to what they were saying- but I am white. I have never had to wonder about my place in society or whether or not I was (in the eyes of my white Christian brothers) acting "uppity". Going to college and establishing myself in my career were not questions I had worry about- they were just the next step.

All three times I attended services, I was welcomed, and Christian worship services were genuine and heartfelt.

I do not know Rev. Wright but I do not believe he is un or anti American. I believe he gives voice to concerns black people have about the attitudes of many white people and the direction our country seems to be taking. And he sees those issues through the eyes of a group of our citizens whose life experiences are decicdedly different from our own. I suspect that if Mr. Wright read some of the posts here all it would do is prove that what he has been saying and what his congregation has been experiencing is the true America that they would like to see changed.

I was taught that dissent is the highest form of patriotism. I wonder what the reaction would be if the writers of some of the more vociferous posts here found the same accusations and epithets hurled at them. I really wonder if some of these posts would have been written if the authors had bothered to attend services and maybe get to know a few of "these people".

Barack Obama's biography, The Audacity of Hope, inspired by a sermon written by Reverend Wright, has been lauded with praise, as Reverend Wright has been praised for his vitriolic, afrocentrist sermons. . . Dr. Wright’s religious diatribes have addressed a handful of the same issues of my former professors of African Studies. Long ago, I had studied under a similarly revered professor, Dr. Maulana Karenga, the originator of Kwanzaa and, a pillar of Afrocentrist debate. Afrocentrism, as I was taught, celebrated “spirituality” and “community” while antithetically, Eurocentrists championed “materialism, money and non-spirituality.” In a large west coast university lecture hall, Professor Karenga and I engaged in spirited debate over his support of African female genital mutilation which he heatedly decried as, “hygienic” while his understudy, Dr. Piper, professed that nuclear weapons and AIDS were designed to wipe out black people. Challenged on her assertions, Dr. Piper was also incensed with me . . . Our nation’s democratic frontrunner, as I believe, does not embrace their non-empirically based, inflammatory rhetoric – no more than I do. However, this presidential hopeful, “a devout Christian [who] prays to Jesus every night” has yet to explain how he could tolerate twenty years of divisive speech to over 8,000 men, women and children at the Trinity United Church of Christ. Barack Obama might do so with passion and poise, but will this presidential hopeful do so with painstaking veracity?

What does it say about Obama's judgment that he didn't see this one coming?

Not to mention, if he was so anti-war, why did he endorse and support and raise money for and campaign for JOE LIEBERMAN instead of the democratic candidate the people of CT chose, Ned Lamont? Why won't he allow the Florida delegates to be seated? He's the one who actively ran ads in Florida, not Hillary.

One more phony. I'd rather have a Clinton who has endured and knows how to get things done from day one than a promising but vapid orator full of airy fairy dreams and no track-record of true accomplishment.

He needs 8 years of ground roots work to do what he says he wants to do. And a lot more seasoning.

The biggest revelation is the lazy biased unrepentant press and media.

Well, when MSNBC and FOX run the Wright video every 20 minutes for 5 days straight, it might erode public confidence. This was a story, but the media artifically made it into a bigger story than it was. He has about 5 weeks to bring down those negatives before PA. What bothers me is that Bush visited Bob Jones University and that McCain has an association with Hagee and both did not receive the scrutiny this has.
I really miss the responsible reporting I used to see when I was growing up. This is just media malpractice.

Servants work where the people need to be served. It is darkest before the dawn. That is what a friend told me today. I've read the recent hate speak about Obama. I've thought can this be overcome.Yes! Be encouraged. Obama has lived a life of service. There are extremes in America, that does not mean I or he chose to be extreme. Extremists have seen this as an opportunity to turn off the light for change in America, but if everyone lit just one little candle, what a bright world this would be. I choose hope.

n African American communities, as in all of America, the wheat and the chaff live and grow side by side. We all live with the good, the bad, and the ugly. It is not as easy as it once may have been to separate oneself from all the different kinds of people in the world. In fact, if you want to serve people, you must live, and work where the need exists. Ask any nurse, whose cares for all kinds of people. Nurses serve the desirable and the undesirable person alike. Servants work where workers are needed. That is Barack Obama's history. Living among the peoples, many and several peoples, is the way to learn how to serve people. I can see this. Can't you? Light a candle for hope, where some would choose to create despair.

Sir Winston Churchill said : ¨You can fool some of the people some of the time but not all the people all of the time
Ëliot Spitzer demonstrated as much and that other democrat Obama is also coming apart as his scrutiny shows his ambivalence. If he thinks he can fool us in
believing he never heard hate and quasi racist statements
from this un-reverend Wright fellow.....give us a break!!!!!
Too bad Colin Powell did not step up to the plate!!!!!

I was born in lamesa, texas in 1948, as a kid a remember the signs in the laudrymat and restraunt no spics or greasers or niggers allowed, also we were segregated in the movies mexican american and black americans were seated in the upper balcony, we went to a segregated school and lived in a segregated area, we could only work in the fields pick cotton for 1 cent a pound and hoe cotton for 50 cents an hour.
My father when he voted had to pay money to vote, in those days there was no help from anybody we had no food and would literally starve because because nobdy would hire a non white person.
I always wonder why white christian people would not help end our suffering, when I tell my children and grandchildren who horrible we were treated they can`t believe that happen in our country.
Today at 60 years old, after serving my country honorably in the military and worked all my life, I have a comfortable income and can honestly say I have forgiven but not forgotten how christian white people treated us like animals.

Why is there less controversy when white conservative preachers blame America for things like 9/11 or major natural disasters? Is it ok to attack America if you are a conservative white but not a liberal black? You don't see Republicans being attacked for their relationships with the likes of Falwell. There is a double-standard here.

Having said that I don't think its an issue. A friendship or relationship with someone doesn't indicate agreement with everything they say or believe. Most churchgoers don't agree 100% with everything their churches teach. If we rejected everyone who held views we did not like we wouldn't have any friends or houses of worship to attend.

the preponderance of the evidence clearly shows that Barak Obama is a racist. When Michele Obama's college paper was said to have racist overtures I was shocked but now when I hear that Barak's Pastor cite such hatred it turns my stomach. I am not a racist and was hoping that race would not be an issue, but it is. People are blaming the media for this growing controversy and I think that is unfair. The Obama's opened the race door for us all to walk into not the media. I applaud the media for giving this story the scrutiny it deserves because this goes to the heart of his "Judgment" argument. I will not support Obama because I don't trust him. I would not elect to have a student doctor preform my heart surgery. Obama needs to go back to the Senate and prove himself and put his time in, then come back and run for president.

Anyone who thinks Obama is a racist just because his PASTOR gave racist remarks is obviously on the smear Obama bandwagon.

Barack Obama has made it clear that he is an independent thinker, his PASTOR doesn't speak on Barak's behalf, only Barack speaks on Barack's behalf, and Barack has spoken of how he wants to change America for the better... maybe ending racism in America is one of the things he plans to do...

Anyone who would so quick as jump ship to vote for Hillary Huckabee Rovian Clinton or John 100 Year War In Iraq McBush just because Obama's pastor gave racial remarks deserves Hillbilly or McBush... how would you like paying for mandatory government healthcare, paying $7.00 a gallon or spending YOUR taxpayer dollars to send me and my fellow troops (I'm in the Navy) to die for an unjust and false war in Iraq?

Obama's pastor probably gave me even more reason to vote for Obama: so that Obama could end this stereotypical racism that exists in America.

(State and Church should be divided) But, The most important man in the USA, the president should love and honor all individuals equally. If at any time Obama was in his church while Rev. White was giving a sermon denouncing America or any race or color of an American, Obama should have left the church and not returned. On 03/15/2008 on a nationally broadcasted interview with Barack and CNN. Barack Obama said that he has NEVER heard Rev. White say anything derogatory against the USA or its people, he went on to say that if he did he would have quit the church. If it turns out that he is lying he should not be allowed to run for President. He does not deserve the honor.

THE RECENT ABC NEWS REPORT ON BARACK OBAMA'S PASTOR JEREMIAH WRIGHT AND THE TRINITY UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST WAS NOT THE FIRST NEGATIVE NEWS REPORT OF OBAMA'S RELATIONSHIP WITH HIS CHURCH, ALTHOUGH IT WAS THE MOST SALACIOUS. THE TROUBLING ASPECT OF THE NEWS MEDIA'S ATTENTION TO PASTOR WRIGHT'S INCENDIARY COMMENTS IS THAT THEY MASK FAR GREATER ISSUES REGARDING OBAMA AND HIS CHURCH THAT HAVE GONE UNREPORTED ON OTHER THAN BY AN EDITORIAL IN A BUSINESS DAILY. THOSE ISSUES GO TO THE CORE QUESTIONS OF WHETHER OBAMA EXHIBITS THE NECESSARY JUDGMENT AND PERSONAL INTEGRITY TO HOLD THE HIGHEST OFFICE IN THE LAND. ADMITTEDLY, THOSE ISSUES DO INVOLVE RACE, BUT ONLY BECAUSE MR. OBAMA HAS CREATED THOSE ISSUES BY HIS OWN CONDUCT IN OFFICE. A BRIEF DISCUSSION OF THOSE ISSUES AND THE EDITORIAL THAT BROUGHT THOSE ISSUES TO THE PUBLIC LIGHT FOLLOWS

A EDITORIAL ENTITLED "OBAMA'S CHURCH" THAT INVESTORS BUSINESS DAILY HAS PUBLISHED ON JANUARY 15, 2008 IS THE STARTING POINT OF THE ANALYSIS. THE EDITORIAL CAN BE FOUND AT: http://www.investors.com/editorial/editorialcontent.asp?status=article&id=285292746454291&secid=1501 . THAT EDITORIAL DEALS WITH OBAMA'S CHURCH AND WITH OBAMA'S 2006 "OFFICIAL" SENATE TRIP TO KENYA WHERE THE SMALL ARMY OF MASS NEWS MEDIA FOLLOWED HIM AROUND AND DOCUMENTED OBAMA'S APPARENT DELIBERATE PARTICIPATION IN THE KENYAN PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN OF RAILA ODINGA IN ODINGA'S BID FOR THE KENYAN PRESIDENCY.

OBAMA'S CAMPAIGNING FOR A CANDIDATE OPPOSED TO THE THEN GOVERNMENT OF PRESIDENT KIBAKI WAS, TO SAY THE LEAST, NOT WELL RECEIVED BY THE KENYAN GOVERNMENT, WHICH WAS SURPRISED AND DISTURBED BY OBAMA'S APPARENT DELIBERATE INTERJECTION OF HIS PARTISANSHIP INTO KENYAN DOMESTIC POLITICS WITHOUT FOREWARNING. THE KENYAN GOVERNMENT FELT BETRAYED BECAUSE IT HAD ACCORDED OBAMA THE PRIVILEGES OF A HEAD OF STATE, EVEN GOING SO FAR AS TO ARRANGE A NATIONWIDE TELEVISION BROADCAST OF AN OBAMA SPEECH DELIVERED AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI ON AUGUST 27, 2006. FOR EXAMPLE THE STANDARD, A NAIROBI NEWSPAPER REPORTED ON AUGUST 27, 2006,"Kisumu residents yesterday accorded US Senator Barack Obama the kind of reception normally reserved for rock stars and popular presidents." (http://www.eastandard.net/archives/?mnu=details&id=1143957392&catid=4 ). THE FOLLOWING DAY OBAMA DELIVERED HIS SPEECH THAT WAS OPENLY CRITICAL OF THE KIBAKI GOVERNMENT AND PRAISED SEVERAL OPPOSITION LEADERS BY NAME (THE SPEECH IS ON THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN WEBSITE).

CBS2 OF CHICAGO COVERED THE OBAMA VISIT( http://cbs2chicago.com/topstories/Barack.Obama.Kenya.2.331658.html ), NOTING THE KENYAN GOVERNMENT'S DISPLEASURE WITH OBAMA'S SPEECH AND CAMPAIGNING, "Sen. Obama has to look at critically about where he's receiving his advice from," said government spokesman Dr. Alfred Mutua. "Just because somebody, somewhere wants to run for president and is using Sen. Obama as his stooge, as his puppet to be able to get to where he wants to get to." MOREOVER, THE STANDARD'S SEPTEMBER 2, 2006 EDITION (http://www.eastandard.net/archives/?mnu=details&id=1143957666&catid=4 ) CARRIED A STORY ABOUT THE KENYAN GOVERNMENT'S PROTEST TO OBAMA'S PARTICIPATION IN DOMESTIC KENYAN POLITICS, WHICH INCLUDED THESE QUOTES OF A LETTER TO SENATOR OBAMA :
In a letter to the Illinois Senator, the Kenyan Ambassador (designate) to the US, Mr. Peter Oginga Ogego, termed Obama’s remarks as having been in bad taste and injurious to Kenya-US bilateral relations.
The statement said in part: "I hereby wish to communicate to you the displeasure and disappointment of the Government of Kenya, (Kenyan) Embassy in Washington DC, and majority of Kenyans, with regards to your recent utterances while in Kenya.
"Your unprovoked and uncalled for statements were in bad taste, particularly given that your visit was well arranged in advance, with full briefings given to your office in Washington DC by the Kenya Embassy."
Ogego accused the Senator of deliberately twisting the truth about the Government’s fight against corruption to gain publicity.
"You deliberately, without real cause or reason, other than what appears (to be) to seek cheap publicity and inconsequential populism, chose to publicly attack the democratically elected Government of Kenya, in total disregard for the requisite protocol and acceptable methods to address the issues you raised, what with programmed appointments to meet Cabinet Ministers and even the Head of State, since your visit was official," Ogego said.

IT WAS ONLY RECENTLY DISCLOSED THAT ODINGA IS OBAMA'S FIRST COUSIN(http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7176683.stm). THE PRESS HAS TO AIR OBAMA'S CONNECTIONS WITH HIS UNTIL RECENTLY UNDISCLOSED FIRST COUSIN ODINGA AND WHAT DID OBAMA KNOW OF ODINGA'S PACT TO PROVIDE A SANCTUARY FOR MUSLIM TERRORISTS IN KENYA TO FAIRLY JUDGE OBAMA'S FOREIGN POLICY CREDENTIALS.

THE EDITORIAL OF JANUARY, 25, 2008 ALSO DEALS WITH MUAMMAR GADDAFI'S FUNDING ODINGA'S POLITICAL CAMPAIGN AND OBAMA'S POSSIBLE COMPLICITY THEREIN IN FURTHERANCE OF HIS CHURCH'S AFRICAN THEOLOGY. THE FUNDING OF ODINGA IS BY THE STANDARD OF NAIROBI, WHICH REPORTED THAT ODINGA PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN WAS FUNDED BY MUAMMAR GADDAFI AND THAT ODINGA ENRICHED HIMSELF WHILE HE WAS ENERGY MINISTER OF KENYA BY ENGAGING IN FAVORABLE DEALS WITH GADDIFI( http://www.eastandard.net/archives/?mnu=details&id=1143972118&catid=4).

IT APPARENTLY GETS WORSE; ODINGA SIGNED A PACT WITH RADICAL MUSLIMS,PRIOR TO THE DECEMBER KENYAN ELECTIONS (http://wikileaks.cx/leak/MOU_between_Ralia_Odinga_and_Muslims.pdf) THAT STATES IN PARAGRAPH 5(f) "NO MUSLIM RESIDING IN KENYA WHETHER A CITIZEN, VISITOR OR RELATIVE OF ANY OF THE OF ABOVE SHALL BE SUBJECTED TO ANY PROCESS INVOLVING THE LAWS OF A FOREIGN COUNTRY AND IN PARTICULAR ANY MUSLIM ARRESTED FOR OR SUSPECTED OF TERRORISM OR ANY OTHER INTERNATIONAL CRIME SHALL ONLY BE TRIED WITHIN THE BORDERS OF KENYA AND SHALL BE GRANTED A COMPETENT LAWYER OF HIS/HER CHOICE AT THE EXPENSE OF THE GOVERNMENT." THE STANDARD IN A NOVEMBER 28, 2007, HEADLINE ENTITLED "RAILA'S SECRET MoU WITH MUSLIMS REVEALED" ( http://www.eastandard.net/archives/?mnu=details&id=1143978106&catid=4), REPORTED:

The lid has finally been lifted on the controversial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Muslim leaders and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) presidential candidate, Mr Raila Odinga.
With its secrets unveiled at an international press conference in Nairobi on Tuesday, the ghost of the six-point document — which has been a subject of intense propaganda, cyber wars and a source of concern for sections of the Christian community — was, hopefully, finally exorcised.
Its chief signatories are Sheikh Abdullahi Abdi, the chairman of the National Muslim Leaders Forum (Namlef) and Raila, while Mr Mohammed Farouk Adam, Mr Said Athman Mtwana and Mr Najib Balala have signed as witnesses. The pact was quietly signed on August 29.
THE STANDARD OF NAIROBI REPORTED IN SEPTEMBER 2006(http://www.eastandard.net/archives/?mnu=details&id=1143957753&catid=4)," In June[2006], Raila flew to the US, where he held talks with Senator Barack Obama, who made a triumphant visit to Kenya — his ancestral home — last week."
THESE FACTS CONCERNING OBAMA'S KENYA TRIP RAISE VERY SERIOUS ISSUES THAT DIRECTLY EFFECT THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION . SHOULD OBAMA BE CALLED TO EXPLAIN WHAT WAS THE PURPOSE OF CAMPAIGNING WITH ODINGA IN KENYA AND WHY OBAMA FAILED TO DISCLOSE HIS FAMILY RELATIONSHIP WITH RAILA ODINGA.

THIS INFORMATION PRESENTS THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS FOR THE AMERICAN BODY POLITIC:

DOES OBAMA'S INVOLVEMENT WITH HIS COUSIN RAILA ODINGA MERELY DEMONSTRATE THAT OBAMA WAS NIAVE AND WAS UNWITTINGLY USED BY ODINGA TO PROMOTE ODINGA'S POLITICAL AMBITIONS?

IS THIS EVIDENCE OF POSSIBLE ETHICAL LAPSES BY SENATOR OBAMA?

DID OBAMA'S CONDUCT AMOUNT TO INTERFERENCE IN A FOREIGN ELECTION FOR A FIRST COUSIN WHILE ON OFFICIAL SENATE BUSINESS?

DID OBAMA HAVE HIS TRAVEL AND SECURITY EXPENSES INCURRED IN CAMPAIGNING FOR HIS COUSIN ODINGA PAID FOR BY AMERICAN TAXPAYERS?

DID OBAMA'S CONDUCT IN KENYA AS A SENATOR CONSTITUTE MISUSE OF FEDERAL FUNDS?

DID OBAMA'S CONDUCT IN KENYA IN AUGUST 2006 DEMONSTRATE GOOD OR BAD FOREIGN POLICY JUDGMENT IN DEALING WITH AN ALLY GOVERNMENT?

WHAT WAS OBAMA THINKING AS A SENATOR ON A FACT FINDING TOUR OF KENYA TO DELIBERATELY INTERJECT HIMSELF AS A PARTISAN IN DOMESTIC KENYAN POLITICS?

According to the pastor, Mr. Obama then told him, "You can get kind of rough in the sermons, so what we've decided is that it's best for you not to be out there in public."

Obama knew how radical his reverend is. The thing is, he didn’t want us to know about this "God D--- America" thing.

"Obama's minister committed reason but when my father said the same thing, he was a Republican hero."

By Frank Schaeffer

"When Senator Obama's preacher thundered about racism and injustice Obama suffered smear-by-association. But when my late father -- Religious Right leader Francis Schaeffer -- denounced America and even called for the violent overthrow of the US government, he was invited to lunch with presidents Ford, Reagan and Bush, Sr.

Every Sunday thousands of right wing white preachers (following in my father's footsteps) rail against America's sins from tens of thousands of pulpits. They tell us that America is complicit in the "murder of the unborn," has become "Sodom" by coddling gays, and that our public schools are sinful places full of evolutionists and sex educators hell-bent on corrupting children. They say, as my dad often did, that we are, "under the judgment of God." They call America evil and warn of immanent destruction. By comparison Obama's minister's shouted "controversial" comments were mild. All he said was that God should damn America for our racism and violence and that no one had ever used the N-word about Hillary Clinton."

Skin color is irrelevant. The big issue for me is that Mr. Obama didn't condemn Powers or Wright until they got caught. He kept them close until their true beliefs became public. What am I to think of this? Are there two Obama's? The public facade of unity and the private divisive politician? What else is in Mr. Obama's closet? Who else is he hiding in the background?

As far as we KNOW, Obama didn't say the same words as Wright, but you cannot befriend someone and be influenced by them and not know what they are about. Give us a break. The church praised Farrakhan too! I won't associate with or claim someone as my long-time friend and mentor (20 years) that was as racist and hatefilled as Wright. Obama denies attending services during one of Wright's rants. I don't believe him. I think we should all pitch in an offer a reward for anyone that has a picture of Obama sitting in his church during one of Wright's hateful "sermons." Don't forget about Obama association with Rezko too. At first he tried to minimize that relationship and its the damage. He realized he better come clean before it comes out during Rezko's trial. Get real. Obama loves to throw out the words CHANGE and HOPE but he's the same old, same old and maybe even more corrupt considering Rezko.

Let me guess! It's OK for a Black (So called Minister) to spout Anti American Garbage, but when we question those statements, we are "Putting down the Black Church).
BULLSHIT! Sound's like Raciest Garbarge to me.

When you are talking about the Clinton's being racist the press uses the terms "code" words and "when you look at everything added together" it adds up to racism. When this out right outrageous racist rhetoric is used by someone connected to Obama, a simple comment denouncing the words that he "did not hear" when he "was in the pews" seems to be totally out of place after the stink they made about Ferrara. What I find outrageour is the double standard. Hillary was being crucified by the press over Ferrara until this broke and there is no comparison.

Surprisingly this does not offend me about Obama (his wife offends me with her "proud" comment). I believe he is not racist and wants to do good. However the press has made sure this nomination is about race when they can shovel it on the Clinton's, but are finding it hard to control when it backfires on Obama. Too bad, so sad. CNN, FOX, MSNBC and Ted Kennedy played the race card and I am willing to bet Obama will pay for it.

The comments about white, old, blue collar, under $30,000 a year, (and sometimes female), voters being prejudiced is ridiculous. No one can win the presidency without those votes. Caucus' are as unfair as poll taxes. It takes the right to vote away from a large percentage of the population. Trust me, those comments are just as insulting as racial comments to the people they are directed at. I am one of those.

"Obama's pastor probably gave me even more reason to vote for Obama: so that Obama could end this stereotypical racism that exists in America."
can he do it first in his church before he does it for America????please..

Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s rabid anti-American, anti-white rhetoric and Mr. Obama’s ill-considered association with the Wright’s church for 20 years are turning the Democratic contest (and the presidential election if Obama is the Democratic nominee) into an unspoken referendum on race, which is unfortunate.

But I am not concerned about Mr. Obama's so-called "race" (he has none). He is bi-racial; his "blackness" is the result of his conscious attempt to find a racial identity with a race. Whether that attempt had come about as a result of genuine personal need to belong to a community or political calculation to further his personal ambition remains to be seen (or to be debated by future historians).

Unlike most "mono-racial" people who are tossed into a racial basket from the day one, bi-racial people have to consciously decide (or not decide) on their racial identity, yet never being completely comfortable about their decisions. Mr. Obama is no different (in fact some black accuse him of his "fake blackness," which undoubtedly angers him, but deep down in his heart he knows his identity will always be an attempt). Thus, people who talk about Mr. Obama being black or people who see his bi-racial background as a symbol of racial unity are both mistaken. Mr. Obama, in spite of his political posturing and formal identity with black community, is really his own man, his own "race," wherein lies the hope and danger of Barack Obama.

The hope, of course, is that he genuinely believes (his association with Rev Wright notwithstanding) that he can help bring about greater racial harmony to this country (the altruistic vision quest thing); the danger is that he is using all this racial wishful thinking to further his own personal ambition that has more to do with his search for fulfilling his self needs (the ego trip thing, with Rev Wright and his congregation being just a means to his ambition, although now having outlived their usefulness a bit too long).

My concern is Mr. Obama the man, not his race, and on this account, as I watch him closely, particularly his body language and manner of speech (which reveal more about a person's psychological makeup than what one says in public), unfortunately I am convinced that he is on the trip rather than on the quest. Undoubtedly he is a man of great intelligence, full of moral indignation and idealistic utterances, not unlike the now disgraced Eliot Spitzer, but also of great cunning with compulsive need for personal power. He belongs to a rare breed of men who can look into your eyes with not the slightest flutter of his eyelids while telling you lies quoting the Holy Scriptures (no, there is no point in talking about his being a Muslim, Christian, etc; he is his own religion)

Mr. Obama publicly confessed last Friday night. He confessed in front of a TV audience that he had never seen his spiritual mentor, Rev Wright, going into his rabid anti-American tirade in 20 years of his association with the Reverend until he saw him on TV a few days ago. Realistically, one cannot credibly argue, even if he is a top-notch lawyer like Mr. Obama, to be a member of a church, located a short driving distance away from where he lived for most of the 20 years he had been a member, actively assisting its proselytizing efforts with large financial contributions (to the tune of $22,500 in 2006 alone), by professing not to know what the church’s pastor had been saying much of the time.

Unless Mr. Obama can prove that Rev Wright customized his sermons on the days Mr. Obama was in attendance ("Oh, Barack is in the pews, I'd better tone down today"), this is outright fraud, or to be more charitable, an attempt at such; an attempt no less phony than a man who lived next to an active railroad track for 20 years claiming to have heard no trains passing by. The guilt by association? Absolutely; the trains went by him every day.

Last Friday night Mr. Obama confessed: He is a liar. As he spoke to millions of Americans, his eyes were looking straight into the camera, with not a flutter on his eyelids. This man is not a visionary, not a uniter as he claims, but another overambitious public figure in search of personal power at people’s expense, undoubtedly more intelligent, more convincing; thus, more dangerous.

Of course this is not the first instance of politicians lying in front of American audience, and I am sure that examples can be found for Mrs. Clinton and Mr. McCain lying, but they, unlike Mr. Obama, do not project themselves as the emancipator who would restore integrity to American politics. That puts Mr. Obama in a different class of liars: moralizing liars, the most consummate of the lying politicians, like Eliot Spitzer.

Hopefully what Abraham Lincoln once said will become the parting epitaph for Mr. Obama's candidacy: "You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time."

Stop the Drama Vote Obama. Obama 08, Change we can believe in.

The Fact that a potential POTUSA remained a member of this church for 20 yrs has done it for me. No matter if he distances himself from him now or not. He has listened to that type of rhetoric for all that time and had no problems with it and he apparently feels we are stupid enough to believe such a lie, that in all that time, he never heard any of this. When in one of his books, he quotes a Wright sermon, "where white folks greed runs a world in need"--an excerpt from the sermon Obama quotes in his book. He may or may not have been at the exact sermons that has been airing on tv. But he has in fact, listened to these hateful diatribes. And it goes beyond just the "God Damn America" and "US of KKK", look at the comments Wright made about Natalee Holloway(who is missing and presumed murdered) "some 18 year old white girl from Alabama" "who 'gave it up' in some foreign country" someone with this type of attitude Obama has for a mentor and spiritual advisor?. Then of course we have the well known racist commenter, Louis Farrakhan, who was referred to by Wright/TUCC as "a man who epitomizes greatness" and awarded their Lifetime Achievement Award, for his "commitment to Truth, Education and Leadership". This is who Obama, candidate for President of "All" of the US, has for spiritual adviser, mentor and inspiration for all this time? He can try to lie or spin it now as much as he wants, I say no Thank you! Wake up America!

Pastors use extreme examples and colorful rhetoric to make their points all of the time. If after twenty years this was the worst someone could find from this well respected preacher, his commentary is pretty light. He said that Barack Obama knows what it's like to be a Black man in a country run by rich White people, and that Hillary doesn't. Is that untrue? He said that Hillary has never been called the N word, but Barack has. Well, I can't speak for Hillary, but I've seen Barack called the N word at least twenty times since I've been online today.

The main concern seems to be the statement, "God Damn America". They went back to 2003 to find this one. The point made in the sermon was that America is suffering (AIDS, 9/11, etc.) because of the sins of it's citizens. I can't count how many times I've heard a similar sermon from an evangelist. In fact, the same popular evangelists who support McCain with his blessing have not only made the exact same suggestions, but they have a much longer and deeper, documented history of bigotry than Wright could ever have.
