Mike Huckabee's strategy: Deadlocked convention

In an interview with a San Antonio radio station this morning, Mike Huckabee essentially confirmed the suspicions of many analysts. He's hanging on in the Republican presidential nomination fight hoping to keep John McCain from winning enough delegates to get the nomination on the first ballot at the Republican National Convention in September.

Huckabee's thinking: With no clear nominee, the conservative wing will move to him, and he might be able to snatch the nomination in a floor fight, he told station WOAI-AM (1200). But it will take an upset win in Texas on March 4 to do that, he said.

"If we win Texas, I think it changes the dynamics of this race," Huckabee said. "It could well go all the way to the convention. If the convention delegates pick the president, chances are they would pick the most conservative. I would be the one they would end up picking, if that’s the criteria."

That's a lot of "ifs." Polls in Texas vary widely, but the Real Clear Politics aggregate gives McCain a 12-point lead, which might be close enough for Huckabee to pull off a surprise. Especially if McCain's base believes that the nomination is all his and doesn't bother to vote.

I too feel you are leaving out the ONLY Candidate with a REAL chance at the CONVENTION for DELEGATES and SUPER DELAGATES is RON PAUL! Huckabee, McCain, Clinton, Obama are all paddling the same canoe to the FALL! Wake up people!

I hope that all three stay in the race to PA. I can tell you that there is a tremendous grass roots support for Ron Paul here in PA. Signs are everywhere. Honestly, I have not seen one Huckabee or McAmnesty sign in my travels throughtout PA, compared to hundreds for Ron Paul.

To support Ron Paul a few of us traveled to NH to assist with his campaign. NH is a very conservative state compared to other states in the union. We went to the huckabee, romney and Ron Paul pep rallies throughout the state. Guess who was able to turn out the largest most enthusiastic crowds?

At the huckabee pep rally it only filled a elementary cafateria. More people were excited to see Chuck Norris than Huckabee.
The romney pep rally was even worse.

You want to talk about a cult of personality. Ron Paul supporters are very energetic and enthusiastic, NOT so much about him, but rather the message.

No other candidate in the Repug party has that level of enthusiasm for their candidate...

Get REAL America, Arkansas has created a long string of criminals in the past 20 years. Huckabee probably had to have the Governors mansion fumagated prior to moving in...

Huckabee is a great man with a proven track record. Look at how much his magin of victory was over both Romney and McCain in each of their own states. He did great things in his home state and whoever wants to bash him by quoting stats out of the overall context is doing himself and everyone else a disservice. As far as Ron Paul goes, if anybody beats my choice Huckabee for president, I pray it is Ron Paul. Besides a few issues I have with his foreign policy, besides Huckabee, he does make the most sense. I would like to see Huckabee when he wins in the brokered convention ask Dr. Paul to be in his administration somehow. They have both been treated like dirt in this whole election sham and yet have made the most sense the whole time. Go Mike!!!!

It's interesting that you say Huck would have no chance at the general election, and McCain might, since pollsters have neglected to provide us with current polls matching Huckabee up with Obama, and he is in a statistical tie with Clinton in any general election polling data. Oh, and McCain is losing to Obama in all the newer polls. Much the the data is influenced by how much those polled believe Huckabee has a chance to be the nominee. Most don't think it would happen, so they don't consider him, THOUGH THEY MAY LIKE HIM BEST. What if Huck did become the nominee, and all those people realized Huckabee was the nominee? He'd beat the Democrats--both of them-- by a landslide. Why? Because independents would take a look at him and see his refreshing honesty, hard-line Republicans would vote his way (even if for nothing else than that they would rather a Republican in office than a Dem--partisan, I know, but it's still a factor), and even many Obama dems would be rankled by the politics of their party and switch to an outsider with more exec. experience than anyone else running. The polls don't show how winnable Huck is because the pollsters haven't explored that line of thought.

I am a Republican left without a candidate. John McCain will allow every illegal alien to stay in this country while every time they are deported the first thing they do is steal money from banks by taking out a second home mortgage and then letting their home foreclose. I can't vote for him.

I am not able to vote for Huckabee because he will take dollars from my pocket and pay illegal aliens to go to college while hundreds of thousands of hard working legal immigrants and citizens need more help completing higher levels of education.

I'm a Republican who's party has disappeared.

Huckabee ya think??????

Mike Huckabee is sixth on the list naming... 'The Most Corrupt Politicians in 2007" according to Judicial Watch.

6. Governor Mike Huckabee (R-AR): Governor Huckabee enjoyed a meteoric rise in the polls in December 2007, which prompted a more thorough review of his ethics record. According to The Associated Press: “[Huckabee’s] career has also been colored by 14 ethics complaints and a volley of questions about his integrity, ranging from his management of campaign cash to his use of a nonprofit organization to subsidize his income to his destruction of state computer files on his way out of the governor’s office.” And what was Governor Huckabee’s response to these ethics allegations? Rather than cooperating with investigators, Huckabee sued the state ethics commission twice and attempted to shut the ethics process down.
So don't vote for Huck then leave it in God's hands……. DO YOUR HOMEWORK!! Vote for the only true Conservative and Christian Presidential Candidate.....Dr. Ron Paul

Out of ALL the Gop candidates Dr. RON PAUL IS the MOST and TRUE CONSERVATIVE

"If Huckabee wins the nomination, the Republicans have no chance in November. With McCain they might."

You got it wrong! McCain couldn't go against Obama to save his life. Like every noun and verb for Gulliani is 911, every noun and verb for McCain is POW and post 911. We would have four years of a hot head who will demand things from Washington where everyone moves in two speeds slow and stop. Reform for the sake of Reform is bad. Just like change, it needs accountability and real solutions. McCain keeps saying he can do it (reform), doesn't mean he can or will. Very disappointing he is. The media continues to show pictures of Obama, Hilary, and John. No Mike Huckabee or Ron Paul.

Mike Huckabee is a man of conviction, clarity and is a great debater. McCain will not dare to debate Mike at all, so what makes you think he will have a better chance against the Dems? Mike has beaten the Clinton machine twice. If anyone could take Obama on it would be Mike Huckabee. Mike has boldness and fervor, it's just the media preventing him from being heard or recognized. Many republicans are stupid to think that John McCain could beat the democrats after the post anti-Bush era. If Texans live up to their name that they would do things in a BIG way like showing America that the land of the free is not going in the way of "Poop in a hand bag". Come on.. Make it go to convention!!!!
If Mike loses, its because of the media and wimpy republicans not the Dems.

What is wrong with people?! THE FAIR TAX is the way to go. We don't want the same old crap that we've been shoveled. We are enslaved by our very tax system. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

CPAC speech:

Here is a video of him explaining the fair tax:

Plano Texas rally

You sheeple supporting Huckabee and/or McCain crack me up! My God, do you really think either will beat Obama or Clinton? You're in denial and just not true conservatives if you don't support Ron Paul. Just look at their records:
Huckabee: Supported college benefits for illegals, approved and signed tax increases, doesn't understand that war and nation-building is bankrupting the nation - over $1 trillion a year and is # 6 ON THE JUDICIAL WATCH LIST OF THE MOST CORRUPT POLITICIANS! WAKE UP SHEEPLE!

McCain: Supports keeping the troops in Iraq for 100 years, authored McCain-Kennedy bill that provides amnesty for 12 million illegals currently in U.S., voted against Bush's 2001 & 2003 tax cuts and recently admitted he doesn't really understand economics!

Paul: Ron Paul has never voted to raise taxes.
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership, never voted to raise congressional pay, has never taken a government-paid junket and never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.

Ron Paul can still win because the delegates are not obligated to that candidate and especially now because McCain is getting ready to implode and Huckabee is unelectable. Besides, he personally makes me sick. Huckabee, that is. Anyone who cares about animal welfare issues should know that his son brutally tortured and killed a stray dog as a boyscout leader and his self-righteous, "Christian" father covered for him so the fat redneck never was punished for such an incredibly sociopathic act.

If God fearing Americans will vote for "TRUTH" and real change, their conciences must point them towards Ron Paul. Truth must take precedence over all. There is no
lesser of two evils, it's either right or wrong.
Americans be brave, be truthful to yourselves, that way you will be truthful in the eyes of God if that is your motivating force in life.
Ron Paul is your best hope for true democracy, take off
your yokes, unburden yourselves of insidious foreign controll, owe nobody anything, own yourselves.
Remember that politicians are your servants, you are not slaves to their vested interests or to those of their puppetmasters. Turn America into a great again nation
with real moral courage and power.
Ron Paul is your only hope.

I wish I had the chance to speak to the christians like Nancy above who says:

I have ALWAYS liked President Bush. I know he is a man of faith and every day for almost 8 years I have prayed for him to have wisdom. I also know that John McCain understands the situation in the world, that we face. So...the bottom line is that the Bible says to pray for those in authority, and I also know that the Bible says in Romans 13 that there is no government that God has not placed there. We need to pray, seek God's direction for this election and then vote.

Nancy, and all other christians who may read this:
I have been where you are and a certain part of me says the very same thing you have said. I have prayed for "all men everywhere in authority" like the scripture commands me. But government only has certain authority. It cannot do certain things. The Constitution was mainly to hold government in check and says mostly what the government CANNOT do.
Let me quote from Pastor John Weaver's book, "The Christian and Romans 13: Civil Government"
begin quote from page 1:
All government is ordained and instituted by God. it does not matter whether it is church, family, self or civil government. Paul gives us clear and concise statements concerning all authority and power. It is God who ordained government! There can be no denial of this plain truth. God is the Author of all government. (page 5) God has instituted and ordained authorities, and therefore by the very nature of delegated authority, every authority that exists is accountable and answerable to God. they are limited. That means they can go only as far as God has ordained. They are responsible. That is, they must answer to God. They are accountable, therefore God will judge them. (page 8) Most people are willing to admit that government is power. Everyone is willing to admit that government is authority. But how many are willing to go as far as God goes, and say that yes, governments have power and have authority, but they only have that power and authority from God? God has ordained.....government to be His deacons, to be His servants, to be His exacters of righteousness and to be His public worship. If government is a servant, then a servant must obey"
(end quote)

Pastor John Weaver then goes on to point out that every body of authority has limited power. It must be subject to it's limitations! he says that it is foolishness of wicked preachers who admonish their audiences to obey governments that are contrary to God and His Word. Can you imagine Jesus Christ on earth today saying, "Now look folks. I know your government said that abortions are legal, so you just go ahead and have them. And I know that I taught that sodomy is wicked and deserves the death penalty, but after all, your government says it is not a sin, it's an 'alternative life style' so just go ahead and support sodomites" I know that Jesus would NEVER SAY THOSE THINGS.
We have a government that is OUT OF CONTROL. It has left it's confines and become something the Founders NEVER intended.
We have a great chance to bring America back to her moorings, if we can just WAKE UP and quit putting the wrong people in office....
Also we have other problems like BLACKBOX VOTING. Computer touch screens and the like. WAY too much chance for vote fraud!!

I have shared this information (posted above) with fellow Christians in our church in the past. You know what they say? They respond:
"Well, Jesus is going to return and we won't have to be bothered with all this anymore".
Well, that's just great! But you know what else? THAT is in the "sweet by and by". What about the nasty here and now?
I'm looking for Jesus to return ANY DAY NOW. In fact, there is nothing else that needs to be accomplished that prevents His glorious return for the Church.
But on the off chance He delays His returning for four more years, or say, 10 or God forbid 20 or more years? What are you going to do then? What are you going to do NOW to prevent that?
Are you going to sit on your blessed assurance and let things go to hell in a handbasket while you and your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren are rounded up for being believers? Faith without works is dead, Nancy. Maybe you haven't read that scripture in a while. Have any of you thought about that? Or what about having the jackbooted thugs show up on your doorstep for your guns? Want a visit from them? Or what about the illegal aliens FLOODING into our nation? Nancy, do you want your local hospital to shut down because they can't continue to do business because they have to give FREE MEDICAL CARE to illegals??? Some hospitals in places across the nation have had to do just that. I work in a hospital. Word gets around!
What about merging our nations together and having a ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT? Anybody want that one?
I'll tell you right now, I'm going to do everything I can to see to it that my four grown children and my two grandchildren have a FREE AMERICA to live in.
Nancy, I'm just a tad older than you, 54 to be exact. My dad who is 82 introduced me to Ron Paul 11 years ago. And I always said, I really like this guy! If he ever runs for President, I'll do whatever I can to get him in the White House.

Look. You can pray and that's great. In fact we need all the pray-ers we can get to praying right now. America's dead and dying hand is on the threshold of the church (to quote a song by a popular christian music artist) and what have the milquetoast, gutless preachers and pastors been telling their parishionners for literally years? "Well, politics is a dirty business and christians shouldn't be involved with that".
THAT'S EXACTLY WHY WE ARE WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW! When will the church arise? When we will come alive? When will we STOP letting the media TELL US WHAT THEY WANT US TO KNOW??????
TURN OFF THE TV! No wonder preachers used to preach against watching tv! It used to be called "hell-avision"... and it is.
And the only thing the internet is good for according to some people is passing cute little jokes back and forth among themselves.

Ron Paul is a Christian. But he has not made an issue of it. If you'll notice he has never slung mud like McCain or Romney or even Huck.

Huckabee is BAD news. Check out this story.
and then this one:

Now this on McCain:

NOW look at the issues at Dr. Ron Pau's website:

The issues buttons are at the top of the page.

Ron Paul will not protect you. He's anti-war.Is he a Jehovah Witness?

IsRon Paul a Christian? He should tell the whole nation that he's
a Christian. Is he ashamed to tell everybody?

name me any Presdential candidate in the history of the United States that could write something like this:

folks wise up: humans live in a world of goods. In fact captialism was misnamed. It should be called 'goodsism'

If you have paper money, you have paper banks, and paper Bilderbergs. The root cause of 100 million humans that died because of paper money since the 1600's.

"The obscure you willl eventually see - but the obvious takes a lot longer" Edward R Morrow

Ron Paul is the only hope!

Ron Paul will win a brokered convention because folks will finally hear his message? Are you serious? Plenty of folks have heard him and have NOT voted for him! It's over for you Ron Paulites!

Ron Paul is a decent man but he has his head in the sand when it comes to the determination of our enemies to wipe us out. Speaking of heads, we will all be wearing turbans if Ron Paul HAD his way ...

Talk about electile dysfunction... a vote for any one other than Ron Paul is a vote for failure and staying the course. McCain is Bush's third term. Clinton means more scandals and mysterious deaths. Obama, the snake oil salesman, along with Huckabee whose advisor (Richard Haas) is the president of the CFR and the rest of the field of CFR ponies have been bought and paid for by 'big business.' Only Ron Paul is NOT a sell-out to the US and the constitution. His supporters are the true patriots. With the exception of Dr. Paul the rest are frauds, cheats and losers.

The powerful McCain Lobbyist media moguls have already eliminated him. He is hardly given any time. I am not an evangelical but I will vote for anyone with a fair tax plan. It is interesting that the mega wealthy want to keep the same tax code that is killing the middle class. Mc Cain is in bed with the media Lobbyist I do not see him losing. He will be the next President do to his position on the FCC commitee.

What bothers me is that most people that I've talked to who favor Huckabee favor him ONLY because he said he is a Christian. I recall, Bush made that same claim. I am not voting for a priest I am voting for the best person to get this country back on track.

I've done REAL research on McCain for the last six years. I get sick of people who go to a website and read junk written by idiots and claim it's fact. McCain is a good man! Bush is a puppet who couldn't run a gas station let alone a country. He is a complete idiot! Those who still support him cannot possibly have a working cell in their brain! They obviously don't put any effort into research, they simply believe what they see on their tv screen. Sheesh!

Ron Paul will be our next president, he's the only man fit to vote for.

This only candidate in the race who will talk about the real issues such as fiat currency, illegal federal reserve system, honest weights and measures, gold and silver backing our currency, elimination of the IRS and illegal income tax.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, please open your eyes and quit being one of the stupid sheeple.

If the convention delegates pick the president, chances are they would pick the most conservative. I would be the one they would end up picking, if that’s the criteria."

Huckabee is no where near being a conservative except socially. Ron Paul is the most conservative Republican candidate running, and HE is the one the delegates should pick, if they want a true conservative. He's the only one in the entire race that has brought up the question of sound money. The other candidates won't even touch it!

I hold an elected position within the GOP and was present during the Texas Straw Poll. Despite a vastly overwhelming presence of supporters Ron Paul ended up in third in Texas. Only GOP insiders, delegates, were allowed to vote. But how did these GOP insiders treat McCain? Did he fair much better? We'll John McCain ended up in eighth place. He had like 3 votes and the crowd laughed when his result was announced. Texas is still conservative, we will NOT support McCain. In fact, I've never once met a McCain supporter in Texas. Where do these polls come from, thin air? If...and I do mean "if" McCain gets more than 15% of the vote in the Texas primary you might as well not vote anymore because the election is entirely rigged and the system is a sham. Let the Texas primary be the test....

I TRULY want Huckabee to stay in the race as long as he can because I TRULY want Ron Paul to win, and that IS a possibility in a brokered convention, which won't likely happen if one more Republican drops from the race.

Those of us in Utah are still working to do everything we can to make sure Romney's wishes of "giving" his delegates to McCain does NOT happen - it's contrary to the Republican Party bylaws of Utah. We are working hard to make sure the rules are followed to give Ron Paul the best chance to succeed.

I live in Colorado, one of the many states that have not assigned delegates. In my precinct, 3 of the 4 delegates that could be elected to the RNC are Huckabee supporters. I am one of them. The fact is that most of the RNC delegates are NOT COMMITED to any candidate, and if they are, it is only for the first round. Huckabee wants to keep McCain from 1191 so we move past the first round, where most delegates are again free to choose. Go to the attached website and see where the delegates really are. As far as the general, it has to concern McCain that he hasn't won anymore RED states than Gov. Huckabee. These are states that have to come up for the Republican nominee, or a Democrat will get in. I see clear differences between Huskabee and the Dem's. McCain........................not so much.........

It has been reported on Fox news, and CNN that the diebold voting machines are easily hacked into. So, whoever is behind the machines elects the president. not voters. the party insiders pick their candidates. Anyone who actually think their vote counts hasn't been paying attention. I just can't help myself, i will vote, and i will probably have to write Ron Paul on my ballot.

"IsRon Paul a Christian? He should tell the whole nation that he's a Christian. Is he ashamed to tell everybody?"

He did tell everyone, but he doesn't like wearing his faith on his sleeve like Huckabee. The bible has harsh words about people who do that: check out Matthew 6:5-6. Ron Paul is very humble but if you do your research you will find that he is a Christian, but he respects the constitution, is not a theocrat, and respects other's religious views.

watch this video of Ron Paul at the Liberty University:
the other parts (2-4) should be in the related videos.
