Questioner calls Bush 'the bastard,' Hillary Clinton smiles
Over the weekend there was an as yet little-noticed incident in Bridgeton, Mo., just outside St. Louis. Sen. Hillary Clinton addressed a town hall meeting there and was taking questions from the audience.
One elderly woman rose and was asking the Democratic candidate about a rumored economic union among the United States, Canada and Mexico that is widely discussed, feared and abhorred among conspiracy fanciers. The woman said the president planned to implement the secret agreement in 2010.
Then the woman called the president "Bush the bastard."
The Democratic crowd immediately roared its approval.
Sen. Clinton nodded her head slightly and smiled.
Then, she proceeded to ...
answer the question, saying "there's not a lot of truth to it." Our colleagues over at the Swamp have posted Glenn Thrush's detailed account of the incident, which you can read here.
It'll be interesting to see if Clinton's silent assent to that crude comment arouses as much criticism and controversy as last year when a Republican woman in South Carolina asked Sen. John McCain about Clinton, calling her "the bitch."
At the time, CNN showed a video clip of the incident and strongly criticized McCain for not admonishing the woman, although the candidate did say belatedly that he respected the New York senator.
-- Andrew Malcolm

Difference is that Clinton is not a murderer and never sent the country into a 9 trillion dollar deficit while pitting brother against brother after 9/11. I would say that qualifies him as a bastard. She, however, is just a strong liberal woman that scares sad little racist, sexist and classist republicans like half the people on this board. Get a life and look at the facts people!!!!

It is nice to know that Senator Clinton approves someone calling the President of the United States "The Bastard". He is the President and deserves due respect. I do not like Hillary, but if she wins, I would refer to her publicly as Madam President. It is the respect that is due to the office and position. When the old lady that referred to President Bush as "The Bastard" wins office, she is welcome to call herself whatever she wants. The fact that Senator Clinton did not have the decency to defend the honor of the office that she desperately seeks to hold speaks volumes to me.

Get used to it! Hillary will be our next President! We lived through 8 years of hell with Bush so now you can bear 8 years with Hillary.

I do not agree that one is worse than the other. I think they are both classless remarks, indicative of someone who does not deserve to hold the presidency of my country. Regardless of her feelings about President Bush, it would be who of her to move to the next question rather than condone name-calling. I do not believe that John McCain is a Republican, nor do I believe he has any business in the presidency. I am a Libertarian that typically votes Conservatively and I deeply resent both of these candidates giving any attention to childish people. The fact that either crowds cheered when this was said is sad.

to this post by El gato "Hillary IS a bitch and Bush, while dumb, has the birth certificate to prove he's not a bastard. Democrats are the dumbest, meanest, and most uninformed voters in the history of Democracy. The blacks are too stupid to know that it was the Republicans who fought against slavery, and the Democrats who fought to maintain segregation until the last few decades. Wake up monkeys!" Posted by: El gato I would like to add that the so called minorities have been voting for Democrats for the last 100 years or so and still have the same complaints now as they did 100 years ago! that is their idea of progress I guess. Oh well...all dims make me sick!

The article sure speaks to what a lot of liberal supporters show themselves to be: ignorant, lying, needy, pariah. The think they are ENTITLED to happiness, instead of being endowed with teh unalienable right to PURSUE it. THey want to take, take, take. They go up i flames aout their rights, without having a clue as to what they are. They want handouts, and undeserved breaks. When someone near them succeeds, they cry "FOUL!"
We had eight years of Billary, which used up our surpluses, drained our economy, placed greater burdens on the porr and middle class, and attempted to plunge us back to plantation democracy. In Billary's stint, we sold out to China, opened the doors to illegal immigration, desecrated the office of President with a global scandal, and ruined the military. All that, and the public would dain to do it AGAIN? That speaks to the truth in the liberal mindset, give it to me, no matter the cost - the mantra of the Socialist Democrats (Their founded name)..
In history, the only execution for seditious acts came around 1913, to my memory. The defendant was a socialist democrat espousing the assassination of the President from a perch during a convention. It became a landmark Supreme Court case. How easily we forget teh [Socialist] Democrat agenda: lull the public into a dreamy sleep, thinking they are getting something for nothing, and them imprison them with taxes to the point of subsistence only, while they get fat. During high periods of taxation, the Dems have historically voted pay raises for themselves.
As for the old woman's comment, I bet she makes her grandkids real proud, considering she probably wwashed their mouths with soap for the same type of talk.Maybe not, though. Lineage can play a strange role in chronic stupidity, when the same bloodlines intermingle. Look what happened to Ted Kennedy...
Historically, this all started with FDR, and has become more contentious ever since. Th eNew Deal was the same old saw that ENgland sang to us when we go ttired of it and revolted.
Hillary smiling, Hillary's tears, Hillary's grandiose speeches, painiting a rose-colored workld where life is wonderful all teh time; ha ha ho ho hee hee (dr. demento gets the cred for this). Gove me a break. It is only by rolling up one's sleeves, and digging in, doing something better than your copetitor, or being braver than the people watching the fire to save a life that we can be proud of our achievements. We NEED conservatism in government to stimulate the creativity and drive of the American people. We have rights, but we need the responsibility incumbent wiht them. We need no more new laws; we need to use the ones we have better. I believe thta it was justice White or Brennan in another landmark case who said, "One person's freedom extends onlyt o the point where it infringes upon another's freedom."
Quit screaming fire in the theater. There is no fire. Incidentally, Mr. Bush's parents are lovely, kind, and good people to meet. That means their son cannot be a bastard. On the other hand Hillary can be a bitch on more than one account: She is femal... one look at that face says a lot for the other part o fthe qualifications under the first definition in Webster's; As for her mean-spirited attitude, that satidifes another of Webster's definitions.
Finally, when Bill was in the Ovary Office, we called the couple Billary. We cannot elect Hillary, becuase that would mean Hillbilly would be in office.NOw I like buddy Ebsen as much as the next sitcom fan, but the sight of that truck trundling up to 1600 Penn... that would just be too much. God knows what rooms they'd rent out.

Hey did you notice on the cbs questioning on 2/4/08 how smooth her skin looked not a wrinkle that must of put cbs back a couple of million just in make up.

Will the media catch and broadcast a Clinton mistake? Not very likely at all. It will be up to the much maligned Rush Limbaugh and others to pick up on this.
Our media is despicable! They've aired footage of our troops getting killed by terrorists - a direct violation of anything decent and right. They've taken shot after shot of our president - often times had to retract their story because it was a lie.
The WWII generation would never have tolerated such a one-sided and biased media.
And as for any chance that Clinton will ever be held to task the way Bush has been in the last 7 years - YEAH, RIGHT!
Charles Manson could run as the Democratic presidential candidate and the press would probably not bring up his past. But if he ran as a republican...

This series of comments is certainly proof to me of how ugly and divisive politics in our great nation have become. How very sad. And freedom of speech (or ANY freedom, for that matter) requires responsibility behind it.
Posted by: Michael | February 05, 2008 at 06:40 AM
It is ok not to approve of our President, but to call our President "the Bastard" shows fundamental disrespect for the leader of our country. It also reflects on the person who said that in a very negative light. Democrats and Republicans have become so volitale and vicious toward one another, that it's creating a new political civil war in this country. Hillary should have denounced that woman.
Posted by: Tom | February 05, 2008 at 06:54 AM
The smile truly does say it all. We should respect those in authority and Hillary doesn't understand the meaning of this word. Has the American public forgotten what the Clinton's did to the White House when they left office? Do a search on "Clinton's trash White House" and see what's there! They and their staff desecrated it
Posted by: Trina Wiater | February 05, 2008 at 06:58 AM
As a candidate for the Presidency, Hillary Clinton should have admonished the crude questioner and pointed out that whether she likes Bush or not - he IS our President - and the use of such language is disrespectful and unnecessary. Our society has become increasingly rude, crude and vitriolic. God help the next generation when the parents and grandparents set this kind of example.

How can all of you who support Hillary Clinton, regardless of her husbands misdeeds, support her at all? She says she has 35 years of experience. What is it that she has experience in, other than being married to a lousy ex-president and husband and her loathing of our GREAT MILITARY. She has no experience in running a government, a business or foreign affairs other than the visits to a couple of countries, not for the U.S, but to make herself look like she actually accomplished something as First Lady and lied about the things she said she did. Take the blinders off, especially you young women who are voting for her because she is a woman, experience or not.

The difference between what the two ladies said is a matter of truth. The second lady definately did not speak the truth and the first most likely did.
Posted by: billyb | February 05, 2008 at 07:27 AM
The difference is that people have high expectations of Republican behavior, but have come to expect this sort of thing from Democrats. The left has been so shrill, so crude, and so negative for so long that people don't get worked up when they hear it anymore. What a sad commentary on the state of the party. The Clintons have kept the nation on the low road too long, and people are starting to see through it. One big reason Obama's so popular is because he's positive and uplifting. While I disagree with the content of that message, I can at least appreciate the tone. The age of Clintonian negativity, manipulation, attack, and advancement through destruction has got to stop.

I applaud this woman for her remark! Hillary is lying when she says she has no knowledge of the countries uniting, unless she is not up on current events which says she is not a viable candidate. I hope Hillary does sit up and take notice that if she continues in Bush's path everyone will be calling her a "bitch" provided she becomes the next president. I also hope she is not saying anything and everything just to win and doesn't follow through on what she says like most politicians do. I also don't think our vote will mean a thing because politicians will put in whoever they want. I'm so glad the "Bush" regime will soon be over!! This man is so far out in left field he can't even find the ball. When he comes on TV I change the channel imediately, the sight of him and how he has destroyed our great country makes me ill. We need our factories brought back to America so people can work and survive to raise their families. America has a lot of hard working people that need work. Sending everything out of the country has not helped us to be the great country it once was. I'm all for cuts for factories so they will return for people to work in. Bush is the reason other countries hate us, he has caused the turmoil with other countries and they hate him. We need to mind our own business and take care of ourselves and let the other countries take care of themselves. I also believe Bush's daddy had a hand in this war, so I hope he is proud that so many people hate his son. This war has nothing to do with 9/11, it's all about OIL!!!! My heart breaks for all the soldiers that have died for a war that wasn't even about WMD!!! When this election is over I hope we never have to look at this man's face again, he can go to Texas and chase cows around.

SUBJ: Controversial Hillary Campaign Poster Plastered Across Ground Zero
During a trip to Ground Zero on January 31, 2008, I captured this video of a startling campaign poster for Hillary Clinton plastered throughout the area.
The sign shows a picture of Osama bin Laden holding President Bush as his puppet. Hillary raises a pair of scissors to cut the strings by which Osama wields control of the American president. Next to this image appears the text: "Stop the hijacking of America. Vote to end crusader baiting. VOTE HILLARY. Paid for by hillary4usa.com" (a website that connects to Hillary Clinton's official website.)
(View an image of the sign here: http://wtchillary.blogspot.com)
I first saw it as a 2' by 4' sign on the city bus that stops at the front of the World Trade Center site (near the corner of Church and Vesey.)
As I toured the perimeter of Ground Zero, I saw smaller letter-sized versions of this sign posted in at least a dozen different places, including on: the World Trade Center Memorial Museum, statues in Liberty Plaza (adjacent to the World Trade Center site), various walls and structures surrounding Ground Zero, and later at Grand Central Station.
I have posted video of seven of these sightings. View the main website for this story here: http://www.youtube.com/dtsullivan2006

To Linda who posted on February 4th at 10:45 PM...are you really that naive to think that Hillary stayed with Bill out of LOVE? I feel quite certain that her main objective had nothing to do with LOVE (insiders have reported how hateful she is not only to him but also to scores of people who have worked for her)...but everything to do with her hunger for power. She is one truly calculating person and I'd be willing to bet that if she DOESN'T become either the next President or Vice-President, that they will be divorced within a year or two.

This just reflects the "I got a right to say or do anything I want" attitude of so many today. Both were mean spirited, pointed and meant to be punishing. We are so feed up with "politics" that it is becoming a expiring clock leading to mass chaos. May the candidate who stands for "just doing the right thing" win; could someone please show me that Knight!!

I have avoided public association with either major political party.
However, Mrs. Bill Clinton's reaction to this disrespect for the office of the president is the final straw in a long line of disgusting actions by her.
If Mrs Clinton is chosen by the Democrats, I will work actively for the election of anyone who opposes her ... even if the person "considered to be the most likely to do anything to win" choses Mr Obama as her running mate.

Obama's scandal with Rezko, the slum lord and the endorsement From Ted Kennedy made me realize that we really don't know the REAL Obama! I think Americans better be careful and not fall for the Obama charm but finally demand answers that he can't charm his way through. He has been on that "free ride" for way to long now!

It is a sorry state of affairs when those seeking to ATTAIN the office of the President of the United States of America have so little RESPECT for that office that they will allow a sitting President (WHOEVER he is!) to be so disrespected in their presence that BY THEIR SILENCE they diminish the very office they aspire to. May Hillary Clinton and her ilk glean the same "respect" if the sad, sad day comes when she is sworn into that coveted office.

If someone called Mother Theresa a bitch, then there is outrage of course because the world knows this is simply NOT true.
Someone called Bush a bastard, and half of America is crying foul, because some believe its true and some don't.
However, when Hillary is called a bitch, well...people just "smile" and continue on with their daily lives.

It's amazing how the left coast loons come out in support of candidates that have no experiencce or credentials. It also should be noted that the Democrats refuse to get outside of large cities because they know that the conservatives would take them to the woodshed. This womans language and Hillary's and the crowd's response show how much moral decay there is in the large cities. The responses on this web page also prove the the liberal regressonists cannot hold up their end of a debate, only tell lies and name call. Just because the mainstream media tells lies over and over does not mean they become the truth. Turn off your TVs and do your own research and find out the truth, that the Democrat leadership are socialist except for enriching their own pockets. They are the choice of the terrorists worldwide.

I have NO respect for anyone who thinks they must have a trash mouth to say how they feel about any issue!!!!! Some of you want a man for President that won't even salute our flag. How very Sad!!!! I don't know what anyone else could say that would be moderated after reading the scurrilous and dastardly stuff I just read on this blog. Not uncommon are the comments coming from the right and from the Clinton haters. I've become accustomed to men being cruel and rude and nasty about women, but from reading all these comments - it behooves me to wonder what kind of upbringing and education and family values the women in this country use as a guide to decency. The comments used by women toward everybody involved here are absolutely ruthless.
I've come to the conclusion that all of you who were in love with Bill Clinton during his presidency, who were living high on the hog, were able to travel free around the world without worry of being killed; owned your home; a new car; were making a good salary with no talk of increasing your taxes, or foreclosing on your property - no war, are simply joining those whose brain cells only remember his personal shortcoming. Did that affect your freedom, your pocketbook, your job, your safety? Not one iota. What happened to your brains and your common sense. If you're looking for a celebrity - endorse Obama, if you're looking for a drone, choose McCain. If you're looking for someone with backbone, perseverence and the fortitude to get something done - the women of this country need to stand up for our own gender and give Hilary a chance. You're kidding yourself if you think this country is going to be turned around in the first 60 days like some are promising. You can't even begin to know what the implications are for whoever gets this job. You're all looking for a quick fix and its absolutely a fallacy.
Talk about flip/floppers - listen to your friends - they must have a bug up - to think the way they do about Hilary. You reap what you sow - and if you think you're going to get everything good in life by voting for someone other than Hilary - I'll be the one to say - hate won over common sense"
The truth in your observations that say the media only supports Hilary - what rock have you been watching tv under? it doesn't take a rocket scientist to recognize that all of the channels are trying to do to Hilary and Romney what they did to Edwards and Ron Paul. The media in this country can make or break you, and its quite apparent the celebrity is Obama - and Hilary is only the most qualified. Standing by your man doesn't mean that you don't have a mind of your own - if you would put aside the hate, and see beyond appearance - there's only one candidate worthy of leading this country, and that is Hilary. Grow up people - hate only begets hate, and we're almost at capacity in that area.

You Hillary supporters are so morally and pathethically bankrupt, it's unbelievable! So you think it's a travesty to call Hillary "bitch", but "Bush is a bastard" gets a free pass. I especially found Jon's "scale of badness" interesting. Jon, on the scale of stupidness, you're off the chart there, buddy. Oh sorry, did I offend you? Another cry-baby liberal who can spew all the venom he wants at Republicans, but can't take it when someone insults his liberal buddy. Here's the real test: how would you respond if someone called Laura the "bitch" and refered to Bill as "Clinton the Bastard"? Oh, so now "bitch doesn't sound so bad, does it, Jon - and now "Bastard" is the real mean and nasty one. If you're going to apply your standard Democratic double standard, at least try not to make it so ridiculously obvious.

Hillary should have taken the high road and told the crowd the cheering was uncalled for when the woman called President Bush a bastard. How would she feel if at an Obama event, someone called her a bitch?
Hillary should not have smiled and left the uncivilized comment go unchallenged.
I hope Obama wins against Hillary. I cannot respect this woman who doesn't know what is appropriate and what is not.

Linda - how gullible you are! Hillary 'stayed'with Bill so they could both realize their political ambitions. They had an agreement - he becomes president first, then her. She carpetbagged and became the Senator from NY not because of wanting do do anything for New York (which she hasn't), but because she needed a platform to run for president ala Robert Kennedy. They don't even live together! She and Bill are 2 of a kind - a vote for Hillary is a vote for Bill. Thanks - but no thanks

This was another case of poor judgment on Hillary's part. She would have appeared more presidential if she had stopped the woman in mid-sentence and said something to the effect of "Mam, I understand your frustration with the policies of the Bush administration, and I share your concerns, but the office of the Presidency demands to be treated with respect regardless of whether or not we agree with the current occupant." If Hillary is elected does she want people who disagree with her to call her names and disrespect her. I think not.

If Hillary gets elected and Bill gets back in the White House maybe, the name will be changed to the Washington Playboy Mansion. I would consider Hillary more if her husband wouldn't be back in charge of the United States. This should be illegal.

I never cared for her or her husband, however when Bill was president I still had to be mindful that he was president and be respectful of that position. I do believe in Freedom of Speech however, as with many things, feel it is abused from the original intent. With any luck at all she will not become president of this country and I will not have to respect that.

Hillary is a Bitch. with a capital B.. CNN will not demand that she do something. are you kidding. it is not the Clinton News Network for no reason. CBS nor NBC or ABC will demand one either. But let somoene say that about Obama the Muslim or Hillary and they will demand that the politician apoligize.. It is assinine that people in America are that sutpid like this old lady that they cannot check facts and see that such a policy is assinine. But then she probably believes all she see and hears on the Nightly News. Typical American Voter.

Boy you Clinton haters need to get a life. People have the right to say anything they want about the president without being smacked down by anyone. The woman was entitled to her opinion and she expressed it. I sometime wonder whether you Bush lap dogs even believe in the First Amendment. You feel like you have the right to say anything you want about Bill and Hillary, but if someone criticizes your candidate you are ready to beg God for a lighting bolt. Maybe God will someday cure this Republican Conservative schizophrenia soon. What a bunch of hypocrites.
Posted by: Tom Berry | February 05, 2008 at 09:28 AM
This would not be mentioned at all. If you haven't figured out yet, the Media (printed and TV) are completely biased towards liberals. Not even one liberal politician respect or would stop a person from calling our Commander In Chief names. I mean, maybe with the exception of Leiberman.
The US is doomed this coming elections. Safety wise, we would be better off with McCain, on the Economy the best candidate is Romney. On the Democratic side, Hillary is more centered and moderate than Obama, which I think would be the worse candidate possible. His speeches about changes, cooperation between partys, and all those nice words would be meaningless once he's elected. There's a hidden agenda that most people don't see, or don't want to see. He will immediately be biased towards blacks, and knowing that he will only have 4 years, will do everything in his power to make white people pay for everything that, "according to black people", "the white race have done to us". He will bankcrupt the country, he will do everything to advance his agenda...and then we will pay a terrible price for been naive and politically correct. America is not ready for an African American president yet.

Hillary Clinton is a much better "actor" than presidential candidate. When will the american people wake up and realize that her Husband didnt do much that turned out good while president, and she didnt have anything to do with anything except the almost disasterous health care plan which she plans on cursing all of us with if shes elected.
There is nothing good about electing this woman to the most impoertant job in the world! Anyone especially the women out there that plan to vote for her just to get a woman in chair are deceived and blind. Change is only good if its better. Hillary is great at looking back and criticizing what has happened. She has no record whatsoever of implementing something new and having it be a sucess, for her its an act...its just so many words to say and believe me she will say anything, she will even say she loves the military (she hates it) she will say she wants you to have choices (she want full control) she will say shes ready to lead...how does she know, what has she ever led??? tell me one thing............her husband will be yet another joke, and she will be an ambarrasement and the ones that vote for her will be sorry.

Shame, shame on Hillary. She shows no class at all. I would never vote for her as president.
