With Thompson out, Tom McClintock leans to Ron Paul

With Fred Thompson out of the presidential race, who's a self-respecting conservative to go for? Could it be, maybe, perhaps, a certain Republican-libertarian from Texas?

That's one question perplexing California state Sen. Tom McClintock, possibly the second-most-famous California Republican currently in office after Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

McClintock created a stir two months when he endorsed Thompson’s presidential candidacy. Having run for governor, lieutenant governor and state controller, McClintock has shown that while he has not won a statewide contest, he can win GOP primaries, which conservatives tend to dominate. So heading into the Feb. 5 primary, McClintock’s endorsement is seen as important in California.

Now McClintock is mulling his choices. And it comes down to the basics: "Who will respect our Constitution, defend our borders, and reduce the burdens of government on our people?" McClintock said Thursday in Sacramento as the Senate wrapped up its week. "If I were to vote today, I probably would be casting a vote for Ron Paul. I’m not voting today."

Why Paul?

"I do believe he will respect our Constitu-" McClintock said, then stopped midthought. "I don’t want to go too far. I am still looking."

Why not former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney? "I want somebody with a consistent record," McClintock said. "I want someone who didn’t have to go through a political epiphany the day before he announced his candidacy."

The political calculus has simplified immensely:

McCain: Pro-amnesty, anti-first amendment, anger issues.
Romney: Flip-flopper, gun-grabber, pro national health care.
Huckabee: big-government conservative, tax hiker, pro smoking ban.
Giuliani: pro-public funding for abortions, gun grabber.

Wish he would. A few choice endorsments and the MSM might stop ignoring Dr. Paul.

I hope so, at this point all the real conservatives such as my self are about to abandon ship - from the Republican Party. Why? Because - they have become democrats with an (R) next to their name.

Look at the state of things -and ask yourself why has the FOX news executives (The so called conservative Elite) given almost $200,000 to Hillary?

Don’t believe me - look up Rupert Murdock and Clinton in any search engine.

He doesn't want to "go too far" in endorsing Ron Paul?

Probably McClintock just doesn't want to bite the hand that's fed him, the GOP party machine that so hates Paul that they'll defeat themselves first rather than see him win.

It certainly is true, though, that Paul is the most consistent and authentic candidate of either party. The pandering and swerving views of the others just nauseate independents.

Welcome aboard one and all! We have a very large umbrella! Please visit www.ronpaul2008.com - dig deeply into this honest mans record, consider reading some of his books - he has the knowledge and conviction to turn our country around
TE

Coincidentally, Thompson was my #2 choice and Paul is my #1.

Thank you for this article. The Republican primary race is a game of last man standing. Dr Ron Paul is the presidential candidate who will stop the economic collapse which is upon us, and keep the poor and middle income people afloat. You can see the synopsis of Ron Paul at the Florida debate and see for yourself why he won it at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPij7fyIiUQ
The $1 trillion dollars a year spent on empire building across the globe, which Dr Paul wants to stop, is an immoral tax that is bankrupting the country which is more and more being owned by Chinese bankers.

McClintock is huge to us Conservatives in California. I had already thrown in with the RP camp six months ago, but it is good to hear that like-minded Conservatives in office who I admire are starting to sound off.

Hey Californian's for Ron Paul....download a free professional TV/Radio ad to air on your local stations at www.highlandmediaworks.com/ronpaulad

or go to youtue and rate/fav it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXg7mhVXBIk

This is a donation to the supporters of Dr. Paul and who have already given the limit...keep on campaigning!!!!

Interesting...

Makes me wonder who Tom McClintock is worried about. Almost seems like he's looking over his shoulder for a bully to suckerpunch him. If you supported Thompson for his fiscal conservatism, Ron Paul is really your only alternative in that regard. I don't know whats wrong about saying publicly that you support the constitution. Heck, shout it from the rooftops if you want, its a free country.

I'm not trying to persuade anyone but maybe he could check out 'Ron Paul economics' / constitution on You Tube. That's where I found out about Ron Paul and John Mc Cain too.

Great article. Bestselling author, syndicated columnist, and renowned conservative commentator Cal Thomas praised Ron Paul on his website. Here's some of what he had to say:

"Where are we after the Michigan primary and just before South Carolina this weekend?

"Mike Huckabee... sounds like a big government Republican. The only one behaving like a real Republican is Ron Paul, who actually wants to cut spending and get government out of our lives. He won't win the nomination because too many Republican are into handouts and redistribution, just like Democrats."

"It's a sad political season if you are a conservative... Maybe a miracle will happen and Republicans will start behaving like Republicans again."

Now is the time for truth and MSM defeat...

This is great news for us Ron Paul supporters! I truly hope that he does follow through on his endorsement, as California is a very important state for Dr. Paul. Dr. Paul's record (www.ronpaul2008.com -- check it out!) shows that he has always voted in accordance with Constitutional principles, has never voted for a tax raise, voted against the Iraq War, and wishes to end birthright citizenship for illegal immigrants, secure our borders with troops that are brought back from around the world, and repeal the patriot act and restore habeas corpus to protect our individual liberties. Couple this with his incredible economic plan, and we have one heluva President on our hands to restore America back to its roots!

Tom, just SAY IT! There is no other "logical," Constitutional choice or voice in the current GOP line-up...and obviously you know it, so just SAY IT!

Thank you for the article, Dan. This will probably be the election we look back on as the one that truly made us consider, "What precisely is a 'wasted vote'?" Is it voting for someone who the pollsters say doesn't have a chance.. so we instead vote for the lesser evil of the two or three poll frontrunners? If this is the case, we have truly sealed our long-term fate. We certainly will eventually collapse into national ruin as did the Soviet Union. Why save and invest money in a system where your savings will be worth pennies on the dollar by the time you retire? Why try to teach your children right from wrong when they see our leaders acting like dishonest, spiteful, and greedy children themselves? Sad.

It is nice to see that others are realizing that the most consistent non-flip flopping Presiential candidate is Ron Paul. And I am including the Dems too!

We each seem to have our own major issue(s) that make their choice for President seem like the best one. My question is: Would someone tell me why we should NOT elect Ron Paul?

The rest, with Richardson and Kucinich out, seem to be talking crazy talk (or did last week!) about our military adventures in the Middle East. Additionally, no one else seems to understand the problems with the economy, inflation, and out of control deficit spending. Inflation is going to eat us alive, as it has already started to do so. Do you really believe that the REAL inflation rate last year, the rate that was used by the government for Social Security check increases this month, was 2.3%? Just look at the price of gold up 30% in 2007, now at an all time high and getting higher!

One can not talk about tax cuts without ALSO talking about cutting spending. We have a $9 trillion debt (nearly double since 2000) that must be paid so we can afford Social Security and Medicare. The interest payments will go sky high when we begin to fight inflation with higher Federal Reserve bank rates.

And we must stop inflation or everyone's life savings will go down the tubes, along with the middle class, like what has happened to the middle class in most countries south of our border. And do not forget Universal Health Care, which is coming down the tracks right at us, unless Republicans begin to understand the seriousness of runaway deficits and inflation. And start educating the country. A Democratic President will surely not fight inflation like Volcker and Reagan did!

Please vote Ron Paul and save the country from bankruptcy abroad and at home!

If McClintock wants someone with a consistent record, he obviously has not "googled" Ron Paul yet. Even McCain himself was caught saying that, "Congressman Paul is the most principled, consistent voice on the hill"

Senator McClintock has made a wise choice. Ron Paul is the only real Republican, and his voting record proves it.

Senator McClintock has made a wise choice. Ron Paul is the only real Republican, and his voting record proves it.

Go for it Tom! Endorse Ron Paul now, to influence the maximum number of voters -- early voting is already in progress. Ron Paul has THOUSANDS of volunteers and donors in California. We were very disappointed when you endorsed Thompson, but I'm sure most of us will forgive you if you come out publicly for Ron Paul before February 5th. Given your criteria as outlined in this article, Ron Paul is the obvious choice. But don't just go with selfless logic and pick Ron Paul because he's the best candidate for America, regardless of his odds of winning -- pick Ron Paul for YOU, because his supporters will help YOU when you run for the US Senate, and after that, the White House.

Today tomorrow or next week, nothing will change, The candidates are what they are and the only dignified and honest constitutionalist is none other than Ron Paul. The economy is collapsing and no interest reate cuts or rebates will make any difference at all.

Brilliant! No other candidate has a clue when it comes to restoring, defending, and upholding the Constitution. We don't need another personality President.
We need someone who understands Constitutional constraints when it comes to foreign and domestic policy.
We need someone who is willing to sacrifice their power as President to restore a healthy balance of power in our government.
We need Ron Paul!
He knows he can't save our nation by himself. He encourages true patriotism and self-sacrifice at a local, practical level. Look at how his run for Presidency has unified his followers. Look at how creative, innovative and passionate they are. Doesn't that tell you something. That's what our country is supposed to be.

Thanks for the report. Looks like even politicians are coming around. This is the time heroes are born by standing behind their values.

I sincerely hope for the health and wealth of America more heroes are born this year than any other.

Ron Paul, 2008. Any other vote and you might as well give your money to billion dollar corporations.

Why the trepidation over endorsing Ron Paul, Sen Tom McClintock? It's seems altogether clear based on the contents of the above article that you are just like everyone else who sees Ron Paul for the decent and honest true conservative presidential candidate that he is. The future of America is too precious and uncertain to be wishy-washy and politically correct about this issue. I say, stick to the guy with the unwaivering constitutional principles and impeccable congressional voting record and support him no matter what. Certainly that's what I'm going to do when I cast my vote for Ron Paul. :)

Just one more piece of evidence that shows Ron Paul is the only TRUE CONSERVATIVE in this race.

Old man McClintock is so funny, on one hand he knows what good but on the other hand " don’t want to go too far. I am still looking", he doesn't want to be ruined by his Neo Con constituency. Ron Paul for president.

"If I were to vote today, I probably would be casting a vote for Ron Paul. I’m not voting today."

Does he believe a better candidate will magically appear at this point? I've been hoping and waiting for a Ron Paul presidency since 1984.

"I do believe he will respect our Constitu-" McClintock said, then stopped midthought. "I don’t want to go too far. I am still looking."

He should have taken that thought and run with it. Too bad he lost his resolve. Seriously, where does he think he's going to find a better candidate?

Ron Paul is the only candidate that has a consistent record of respecting the Constitution.

'Why not former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney? "I want somebody with a consistent record," McClintock said.'

Holy cow, Tom, Ron Paul has been consistent for over two decades. What more do you want? Most of the other candidates can't maintain any consistency for more than two months.

For the record, I'm really glad and relieved that Fred Thompson dropped out. He made a lot of the right-sounding noises, but he's no Ron Paul, not by a long shot.

Nice article, guys.

I don't live in Cali, but McClintock sounds like a smart guy.

It makes perfect sense that McClintock would come around. He's a rare breed in an ultra-liberal practicallly socialist state.

Vote Ron Paul

As Sir William would say, keep it simple.

Almost all of the issues would not exist if we had only followed the Constitution.

It does come down to a simple choice.

I'm a Thompson supporter trying to figure out the same thing. WHY did Fred have to go!!!! I can't do Mitt- he's a flip flopping joke. And I hate Huck's fair tax (imagine trying to buy a new car or house w/taxes like that!) plus his changes lately...he used to want a national smoking ban! That's not small govt. And he's using Paul talking points these days, it sounds weird coming from Huck. And McCain? He's not conservative and I lost faith in him a long time ago. He needs to hang up his hat. Giuliani? Pro-illegal immigrant, pro-choice, anti-gun, pro-war...he's Hillary.

Go Dr. Ron Paul :)

Ron Paul is the only candidate who will abide by the Constitution and truely has the American individual's best interest at heart. He is the candidate that will get this country turned around and headed the right direction and he will do it quickly.

~RON PAUL 2008~

Ron Paul is not a war monger!! Vote for Ron Paul! www.ronpaul2008.com

Well SenatorMcClintock,

Being as how the CA primary is less than two weeks away, I hope you don't sit on the fence too, long. Ron Paul's track record is all the proof one needs to see that he is the only candidate who has consistently supported the Constitution. I've noticed how the other candidates of BOTH parties deal out little sound-bites of Ron Paul's message. It seems that if the other Republican candidates aren't mocking him, they're trying to mimic him, in order to tell people what they want to hear. Your strong endorsement of Congressman, Dr. Ron Paul is what he AND the American people need in order to restore the constitutional foundation of this country, so that we may enjoy a free and prosperous life and a harmonious relationship with the rest of the world.

Ron Paul is not a war monger!! Vote for Ron Paul! www.ronpaul2008.com

Tom McClintock is who I voted for in the recall election based on his principles and stance on the issues. It's great to know he's still the same (just to be able to 'mull over' Ron Paul in public takes guts for politicians now).

McClintock's endorsement of Ron Paul will help McClintock. Because with or without McClintock, the Revolution will go on. I believe Mr. McClintock can become even greater voice in California by aligning himself with this Revolution -- he ought to know that it is better to choose to be aligned with truth and what is right than to enjoy the temporary success and delusions of aligning with what must ultimately fail in the long run.

Go Ron Paul!!

I really don't understand Senator McClintock's reticence in endorsing Ron Paul. "Who will respect our Constitution, defend our borders, and reduce the burdens of government on our people?" McClintock asks. Dr. Paul is the champion of the Constitution, has real plans to address both the physical, economic and legal dimensions to the border problem, and has consistently called for smaller government and sound monetary policy for decades.

"I want somebody with a consistent record," McClintock said. "I want someone who didn’t have to go through a political epiphany the day before he announced his candidacy." How could this requirement fit anybody except for Dr. Paul?

Romney, Huckabee, Giuliani and McCain are deficit-spending Schwarzenegger Republicans - not the kind of leaders we need when we are facing a $9.3+ TRILLION dollar debt and $59 TRILLION in entitlement liabilities.

Ron is making conservatives come out of the closet.

Yep!
He is Smart!
With Fred out-and guiliani almost out...
The choice is CLEAR...
Huckbee is one of the 10 most wanted politicians in Washington due to "fraud" -do your own research... he is also a christian socialist.
I am a strong christian and i wouldn't vote for him despite his "eloquence" and charm.
Ron Paul is also a STRONG Christian-who has a personal relationship with Jesus but he doesn't bring it up unless asked (he thinks politics should stay away from religion-is against constitution :)
I wish the media would take note of that...
Ron Paul is my candidate--he would shred OBAMA OR HILLARY in economy and foreign policy (shred them to pieces).
I wish he would debate them one on one.
Ron P never ducks the questions....
RECONISIDER if voting for someone else and vote for RON PAUL.
Don't believe he doesn't have a shot-VOTE your conscience.
Tanah -Cedar PArk, TX :)

Come on Tom, commit already. McCain can't win. He's crazy. Anybody locked in a dungeon for years has deep psychological scars that obstruct sound judgment. Americans aren't ready for a Mormon. Huckabee and Giuliani are sideshows.

Which issue does Rep. Paul's opinion differ from yours? Immigration? The economy? Guns, gay marriage, healthcare??? He seems to be the perfect choice if it weren't for all the media parrots squawking "but, he can't win... but, he can't win."

The media continually telling us Giuliani was a frontrunner didn't make it so, and neither will constantly telling us Paul can't win. It just diminishes the media credibility.

I've sent Mr. McClintock emails asking to endores Ron Paul. It's an easy choice as both public figures have more in common than differences. Paul and McClintock joining would be a powerful political force. Stop playing politics Mr. McClintock! Get with program and stop the wishy washy bull. You have a job to do, and that is to protect the republic bound by the Constitution from foreign and domestic enemies.

Dear Mr. McClintock, You once spoke with a few of my friends in front of the State Capitol about their supporting Ron Paul. They where very impressed with you and I am delighted to hear you have taken Ron Paul's message to a new level. I encourage you to officially support Ron Paul. He is what this country needs and the others are just more of the same. Thank You!
Sincerely,
Kari Alfaro

Makes sense. Politicians in any party are being seen as fake, and pre-canned. Americans are losing trust in politics, and Ron Paul is the only candidate that could change that. His record and his ideas are rock solid since it's based strictly on the constitution. Our government needs many more people like him.

Wow, this is great news. I have great respect for Mr. McClintock. I've been waffling on Ron Paul mostly because of his newsletters and his seemly close association with racist groups, but I love most of his message. It would definitely help seal the deal of me voting for Mr. Paul if Tom endorsed him.

It's about time McClintock came around towards the Paul camp. Why the hesitation? McClintock interviewed Ron Paul several months ago and seemed to give hima glowing endorsement, although not officially. As a former McClintock supporter, I was very disappointed that he had endorsed Fred Thompson. Yet we must remember that Tom endorsed Schwarzenegger in 06 after opposing him so vehemently in 03.

Matter of fact I wrote this article last week before Fred Dropped out, entitled

Which Big-Government Socialist Will Tom McClintock Endorse Next?
By Martin Hill
LibertyFight.com

http://libertyfight.741.com/mcclintock.html

It may be too late for McClintock, he's shown himself to be an unreliable poser.

Oh please, get off the fence already, Ron Paul is so clearly in a class of his own their can be no ambiguity as to where you stand. You either love freedom and sound policy, or you're comfortable with the government controlling your life. We are suppose to be "the land of free and the home of the brave", so let's stop being the being the pussilanimous sheep being led by a by a disrespecting shepherd.

McClintock is on the right track. Paul's record is steadfast. He is running on the exact same platform and saying the exact same things he said when he ran 20 years ago. And his voting record between the two is as consistent as can be.

For more info go to www.ronpaul2008.com

Also, thank you to the LA Times, one of the few mainstream media outlets that seems to give Dr. Paul a fair shake.

Almost an endorsement...McClintock almost caught the touchdown pass from Ron Paul, but dropped it in the endzone. Maybe McClintock heard, as they say in the NFL, "footsteps"... Let's try again: "Tom, go long!"

Here's an idea regarding the economy and how our Repulbican presidential hopefuls will fare: Let's take how the candidates have handled their campaign financing, how they've spent the money each camapign has raised, how they've raised it, where they spent it, how quickly, who is now bankrupt, who is putting their own money into it (and maybe then feeling entitled to reimbursement themselves down the road...cough, Romney, cough). Only Ron Paul is still going strong, competing in ALL states, making the most of the money he has, making the money last throughout the ENTIRE primary seasons, etc. That's fiscal responsibility I can get behind, feel good passing on to my children.

Considering all of the, I vote Ron Paul, trust him most with my money, my vote.

When I lived in California, I voted for Mr. McClintock, while my husband cast his vote for the "I'll Be Back" dude. I liked where he stood on the issues, and that's why he should strongly consider endorsing Dr. Paul, who stands on similar issues. And of course, he will be showing what an intelligent person he really is if he dare complies with my suggestion!;)

Paul 1, Fred 2 for me too.

I'd more than be pleased to see Fred's support come to Ron Paul. Very similar message. I would too have been pleased to support Fred. (well, not pleased but ok with... that's not true for Romeny, John "Keep the POW's in 'Nam" McCain, Rudy or who's the Jesus boy?

Anyway, good stuff.

Please, Tom. Commit!!

I have never been affiliated with any political party. I have only been familiar with Ron Paul and his position on the presidential issues for just a week now, but it became very clear to me within just a half hour of listening to him during prior debates (thanks Youtube) that this was the person that is most fit to be the leader of our country. He is sincere, genuine and his principles evoke passion in people about where our country is today and where we want to be tomorrow. I don't even agree with everything he stands for but his foreign and economic policies are what will save this country, and this country is in trouble. It is worrisome how many people reject his ideas and are afraid of the very fundamental principles upon which our country is founded. Don't be afraid of freedom. Embrace it.

McClintock, please make an offical endorsement..isn't that obvious? What are you waiting for? We don't have much time left for California election on Feb. 5th. You don't see many people are so passion with Ron Paul.

A beginning to a turning tide of support for the good Doctor. My guess is we will need to fund Ron Paul's campaign to the tune of another $150M to be sure everybody in the nation knows why they should vote and what freedom can mean in their personal futures. They must be aware of the motives of big business and big government to keep the trillions of dollars flowing from our pockets to theirs. People need education on just how much effect they can have when we all focus on a goal. How convenient that Mr Bush will make possible the funding for Ron Paul's effort by trying to bribe us that the economy is OK. If done properly, we might get 10X on our $600 investment which actually cost nothing. Finance will continue to be a deciding factor in this election, this seems to be just a reality.

Come on Tom, get some and announce that you are for RP.

It will be liberating!

I've had McClintock as a guest speaker. Great way to go, endorse Ron Paul!

Ron Paul is the only true Republican left! The other's are not much different from Democrat! I'm voting for Ron Paul! After watching the documentary "No End In Sight," and finding out that the Iraq war is basically a joke, I just can't see why the other candidates would even suggest staying in Iraq. Ron Paul is the only sensible one left...

RP in 08

Fred Thompson is out!
Well then, I guess I'm voting for Paul because of his REAL Economic Stimulus Plan.

1. Tax Reform: Reduce the tax burden and eliminate taxes that punish investment and savings, including job-killing corporate taxes.

2. Spending Reform: Eliminate wasteful spending. Reduce overseas commitments. Freeze all non-defense, non-entitlement spending at current levels.

3. Monetary Policy Reform: Expand openness with the Federal Reserve and require the Fed to televise its meetings. Return value to our money.

4. Regulatory Reform: Repeal Sarbanes/Oxley regulations that push companies to seek capital outside of US markets. Stop restricting community banks from fostering local economic growth.

Congressman Paul has written or co-sponsored numerous bills to enact the policies in his plan. In Congress, he has been a champion of lower taxes and limited government.

Congressman Paul is the ranking member on the House Financial Services Committee's Subcommittee on Domestic and International Monetary Policy, Trade, and Technology. In Congress, Dr. Paul has never voted for a tax increase or for an unbalanced budget.

I'll let the man himself persuade you...

http://www.ronpaul2008.com/issues/privacy-and-personal-liberty/

that's him speaking about the importance of the constitution in American society.

"Still looking?"

...

"STILL LOOKING?"

Gee, I'm sure another presidential candidate "who [will] respect our Constitution, defend our borders, and reduce the burdens of government on our people" will just WALTZ right out of OBLIVION and into your lap McClintock.

Why are people/politicians so hesitant to commit to MORAL INTEGRITY instead of cheap political gain? Just ENDORSE the man already...SHEESH!

We have a two party system ........Vomit and Excrement ...........and we have everyone trying to say their guy doesn't Stink as Bad!!!

At what point are people gonna wake up and Vote For Change not the same Old Stink?

Voting for The Lesser of two evils is One Greater Evil ...............as we have come to see.........

Vote For Truth!

Vote For Freedom!

Dear Friend,

I want to let you know about the candidate I am supporting for
president.

You can also check him out at ronpaul.2008.com

Please consider voting for him in the primary on Feb. 5th.

Let me know if I can answer any questions.

Thanks, Therese

By and large, Ron Paul signs are in the majority here in East Tennessee. An on-line poll in The Tennessean asked which candidate would receive votes that would have gone to Thompson. Unless things have changed, Ron Paul was leading with 41% of the votes.

Make a statement Mr. McClintock. Be bold, like Ron Paul. He is sticking out his neck for this Republic. Can't you do the same? We won't get a second chance at this.

Mr. McClintock,
Ron Paul is the only candiate that can bring peace to America, and those nations that have been bombarded with the Bush's Administration. The American people are asking for help, and it must be from those that have a voice, which indeed you do Mr. McClintock. Our media will not give Ron Paul and the people of the United States of America the voice that is necessary to save our great nation, and that includes our armed forces in battle overseas, and the American People here in the United States of America. We ask you, one with a voice to the public to help us to make the other nations know that we the American people are not in agreement with what our Dictator Bush or his Administration has done. We are good people and want to have free trade, and peace throughout this great world that our God has provided us with. The Bush Administration has done enough to make other countries hate and despise America, what we want is for our United States Soldiers to come home to their families, and that America be solvent, and once again self relient. I am an ex-military Air Force veteran, and I know in my heart and soul something has to change in order for us to stay as a nation and for the America to continue to be ONE NATION UNDER GOD, that is the oath I took over 35 years ago. Help me and those fellow Americans to support Ron Paul and his efforts to save our Country. Make a difference, Endorse the only true Patriot and American that will make a difference, Ron Paul.

http://ronpaul2008.com

Mr. McClintock, as Bo used to say, "Just do it."
Let Freedom Ring

Here's my take:

McClintock may be apprehensive about supporting Ron Paul for fear of political retribution by the party. Ron Paul has a number of good friends in congress, very conservative repubicans who are on the fence and not endorsing him - The word I got is that GOP leadership has told the "rank and file" that Ron Paul is poison - support him and the party will leave you high and dry when you run for re-election.

Don't be surprise if the Repubs finance and run a strong candidate against Paul in the 14th congressional district in Texas. The party hates him and they want him gone .... yesterday!

RELATED:
McClintock has not taken a stand on Prop 93 - CA Term Limits - he's termed out after this year. But if 93 passes, he along with Top Dems Nunez & Perata get the potential of another 12 years in office. MORE:...If 93 fails, McClintock runs for the District 3 seat on the State Board of Equalization - He'll run in a safe GOP district and replace the termed out Michelle Steele.

FINALLY:
McClintock needs GOP money to run a campaign. He's not a rich man. He's always been a good, honest public servant and has not enriched himself at the expense of the taxpayer. However, McClintock needs GOP money, becuz one of his top money raisers (RJ Rushdooney) passed away a few years ago, leaving Tom to have to rely more heavily on the state's party apparatus to raise campaign funds.

Thanks for the article Dan!

Dan is the Man!

-------- Ron Paul 2008 ---------

someone said about mike huckabee: "he's using Paul talking points these days".
actually sir mike has been using those since before they were talking points. he has been at the front of the conservative movement in many areas for years.
many times through my hundreds of hours of research i have come upon websites where ron paul supporters smear huckabee with slightly twisted facts.
i have a high regard for ron paul, but his supporters have made it hard for me to sign on.
also, i have come to the conclusion through hundreds of hours of research that mike huckabee is the man to lead our country.
GO MIKE!!!!!!!

I hate to make this comment but many people will understand it. People who support Dr. Ron Paul, are considered literally crazy, as well as Dr. Paul himself by many Republicans. I don't think he is crazy at all but he does illustrate how crazy and brainwashed many Americans are. They have seen the treachery of the two party systems "establishement" candidates. Americans know nothing is going to change when one of them is elected, except perhaps a democrat. They will sure change things--for the worse! Their open borders policiy alone, will ensure that. I understand why most Democrats would not supporti Dr. Paul, their so utterly clueless. What I can't understand is why Republicans haven't bailed out from the neo--con treachery. Of course the Democrats, under such illustrious people as Nancy Pelosi, Kennedy, and the Clintons, have proven they and the neo-cons are one and the same. Completely in sinc with each other.

I was thinking that I might , just might, vote for Ron Paul... Until I sat down and read the book "A FOREIGN POLICY OF FREEDOM"

Now, living in Florida, I have decided that I would crawl to the voting booth in a Cat 5 Hurricane just to vote for Ron Paul.

This is a MUST READ for anyone considering voting for one of the other candidates, or any undecided voters.

It is a Revolution of ideas. Nothing can stop it.

A great many Ron Paul supporters are starting to abandon his ship and coming over to mainline GOPers like Romney. They're starting to sense the writing on the wall: Continued losses in primary states, dissapointing finish in Nevada and Louisiana.

Even Libertairan Party Presidential candidate Steve Kubby has re-activated his campaign. Kubby had suspended his effort last October to endorse Paul's Republican run.

Romney has been endorsed by Mr. Libertarian Republican himself, fmr. Mass Gov. William Weld. This brings a great deal of credibility to Romney's growing libertarian appeal.

Within weeks now, Paul's effort will be over, or would have morphed into some obscure third party campaign. But Fiscal Conservative Romney will be securing the nomination. A great step forward for the libertarian movement indeed.

Mr. McClintock,
On the (Recall Election) I chose you over the other “long last name” guy. With all due respect, Mr. Thompson is a candidate with “poor platform”.
At these critical states of the US, just showing up at the debates with "very little message" not going to get you far.

Heading into the Feb. 5 primary, I ask of you to endorse Dr. Paul.
I trust, you do share the same value as Dr. Paul which would bring back what it once was for California “The Golden State.”

Dr. Paul will faithfully execute the office of Presidency and will preserve, protect and defend our Constitution which in turns reduce the burdens of government on our people. It is time to refer back to principal of the founders’ true intentions “The Government with Pride for its People” and cast our votes for Dr. Paul.

Mark said: "McClintock needs GOP money to run a campaign. He's not a rich man. He's always been a good, honest public servant and has not enriched himself at the expense of the taxpayer. However, McClintock needs GOP money, becuz one of his top money raisers (RJ Rushdooney) passed away a few years ago, leaving Tom to have to rely more heavily on the state's party apparatus to raise campaign funds."

As others have suggested (and I agree), we take the Ron Paul Revolution to the next level and become a national movement that will transform politics for decades to come. We can do this by building on our massive numbers. We are not rich individually but as a group we are powerful.

We have the power to focus our efforts like a laser on getting good congressmen and senators elected and reelected one by one. This can be the greatest legacy of the Ron Paul Revolution.

What? Who is this guy? You mean he wants to take our money away from us? Well, we stole it fair and square! What will we do if the people of America don't vote Demoblican/Republikrat? We'll be doomed!
How will I go to Harvard/Yale? Muffy will be miffed! Good Heavens, we've got to stop this Ron Pual fellow!!!

Ron Paul has stood his ground on every Issue, He does'nt get involvedin the mindless conformity of the other Canidates, and after all we don't need or want the CFR/world bank running OUR COUNTRY, if we all pull together we can take Care of our own,and maybe the World view of our Nation will return to the MORALITY and DIGNITY thats goes with being a FREE and INDEPENDENT REPUBLIC, We the People must take our Country Back!

COME ON TOM, GO FOR IT? Or are YOU waiting for an epiphany before you make up your mind?
Also, Get the Gubernator to endorse Ron too. Suggest to Ahnold that Ron might consider annexing Austria so Ahnold could run for President in '12.

With 173 delegates at stake in California, this has the potential of being the most explosive development of the Primary to date.

Eric Dondero was fired by Ron Paul several years ago. He desperately needs to get over it and get a life. He constantly trolls for any article on Dr. Paul and makes the most outrageous statements. Give us all a break, Dondero, go crawl back under the rock you came from.

Dear Senator McClintock,
Here is the reality. No matter what the media shows about Ron Paul the facts remain the same. There are those that are voting for congressman Paul because of there loyalty to his stance of loyalty to the people. I am a strong Republican backer but I will not waver away from Paul whatsoever. And I believe with all my heart there many many Conservative Christian Republicans that are fed up with the lack of integrity that has been coming from the political establishment, to the point that we are seeing that there is no more respect or concern for the God given rights to the citizens of America. So I ask you this, "how long do you think we as Americans will sit and just watch as our rights and liberties are eroded away?" It's not a matter of us just accepting all the lies and deceit. But I believe that the criminal activities and wreckless abandonment to our rights are not only going to stirs the citizens to anger, but also I believe were coming close to a future uproar that whether we want to as citizens like it or not, will have no choice but to retaliate. History has shown that the people of the USA will not go into complete surrender. And as one of thousands upon thousands of one of Ron Pauls' loyal backers we will not forget as well who was with us or with those that intentionally hurted the chance to restore our country just so they will mot be looked down by those that could care less about the direction our country is going. Nor for the rights, liberties and freedoms that are suppose to be our unalienable rights. Sir at this point there are many that respect you. For your political and integity stance sake, Please I ask for your endorsement for Ron Paul because I assure you that if you do this WE will never forget this as well. And in closing please do not put this off to even the last minute because we are very aware of all the Political and Media Shenanigans that are going on. When this is all said and done we will all stand and make accout to Him whose has created us.

In Christ Name,
Eddie Rivera

Tom McClintock is solid on California issues, but does not seem clued in to the national and international scene. His waffling non-endorsement of Ron Paul is ironic in the face of his righteous condemnation of wafflers and late-comers. On the other hand, McClintock is a thoughtful and clever politician, so what's up here?

Well, it is clear to me that he is holding out some bait, hoping that the competing Republican campaigns will come to him and make him a player in the presidential nominating race. That would put him squarely back into the Republican driver's seat in California Republican politics in the face of the rapidly evaporating reputation of Arnold Schwarzenegger, whose administration is thrashing about for an organizing principle while sinking further and further under a mountain of debt and deficit. What better way to announce your availability than to threaten to endorse the least qualified
Republican candidate to occupy the presidency of the United States? Mitt Romney and John McCain have been put on notice: come to California and seek an audience with Tom.

As for Ron Paul, much of what he says has the ring of truth, but he is an idealogue and has no idea of prudence. He would be a foolish president, even if he is clear about his own principles. He would be an easy mark for unscrupulous interests in the U.S.A. and would be considered a dunce by the tough leaders of the competing nations of the world. In electing a president, we are not merely endorsing a set of ideas, we are electing a man to run the U.S. government and to preserve our influence and independence in the world. Ron Paul is not a bad fellow, but he is not presidential material.

A Republican Whig

I don't want the Federal Government to be involved in abortion... period. I don't feel that New York should influence how Oregon runs their neck of the woods. Anyhow, do you really want more Lawyers involved in your life? Roe of Roe V Wade supports Republican Ron Paul because his record shows that he does what he says he will do, and that will be to overturn Roe V Wade.

In addition, I listened to the Media when I voted for George Bush. I'm not listening to them anymore. Dare to Compare: www.ronpaul2008.com/issues/ .

Unfortunately it took segregationist Governor Wallace to reveal the truth that "there's not a dime's worth of difference between" Republicans and Democrats. The Democrats willingly went along with the War in Iraq, suspension of Habeas Corpus, detaining protesters, banning books like "America Deceived' from Amazon, stealing private lands (Kelo decision), warrant-less wiretapping and refusing to investigate 9/11 properly. They are both guilty of treason.
Support Dr. Ron Paul and save this great nation.

Change over from Ron Paul? I consider a vote for anyone else a wasted vote.

Vote Ron Paul 2008 or watch your country sink.

Tom McClintock is just like the rest of these wishy washy so & so's. Can't make a decsion. He knows Ron Paul is right on the money. The neocons know it, the federal reserve knows it, the IMF knows it, the world bank knows it. The thing is, if Ron Paul is elected, we are going to ROB THEIR GRAVY TRAIN!!!!! They do not want that to happen.
People, they have stolen our labor and our wealth for too long. Please educate yourself.
The Good Doctor Ron Paul for President of these United States!

Bread111 I couldn't agree with you more!! My husband & I will both be voting for Ron Paul. He is a true conservative that will get America back on track.

Don FrederickDon Frederick has served as an editor helping guide coverage of every presidential election since 1984. He is a third-generation Washingtonian, so watching the political world comes naturally to him.

A graduate of Northwestern University, he was a reporter for newspapers in Colorado, New Mexico and Texas before joining the (now-defunct) Los Angeles Herald Examiner in 1983. Hired by The Times in 1989, he has worked in its Washington bureau since 1996 — a perch providing him a close-up view of the impeachment of President Clinton, the government's response to 9/11 and the day-to-day wrangling of the two major parties.
Andrew MalcolmAndrew Malcolm's immigrant parents repeatedly stressed the importance of active participation in a democracy. Early lessons included learning the alphabetical list of states by watching televised roll calls of national political conventions. That childhood exposure led to a lifelong fascination with politics, including 40-plus years of covering them and a brief stint practicing them as press secretary to Laura Bush in 1999-2000.

A veteran foreign and national correspondent, Malcolm served on the Times Editorial Board and was a Pulitzer finalist in 2004. He is the author of 10 nonfiction books and father of four.
