Manchester, N.H. -- We weren’t along for John Edwards’ midnight (and beyond) ramble into the far reaches of the Granite State today. But, as advertised, the Democratic presidential candidate and his (no doubt caffeine-fueled) entourage DID sweep into Berlin, N.H., at 2 a.m. (EST) and Littleton, N.H., about two hours later.

The campaign tells The Times’ Seema Mehta that about 50 folks were at the stop in Berlin, and roughly the same number in Littleton -- towns in New Hampshire’s North Country.

Now those are votes we think he can count on in Tuesday’s primary.

Edwards returned this morning to the more populated region of the state as part of his latest 36-hour campaign marathon, and at several stops he was joined by two high-profile backers: actors and longtime couple Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins.

Edwards wraps up his tour shaking hands tonight at a perennial haunt for candidates: the Red Arrow Diner in Manchester.
