The first President Bush long has been known for his endearing penchant for penning short notes of appreciation, good wishes or whatever to a seemingly limitless number of friends, aides and acquaintances. Guess who may be adopting a similar habit?

Hillary Clinton sent a letter of congratulations to Elisabeth Hasselbeck after the co-host of daytime television’s ‘The View’ gave birth to her second child earlier this month. The result: a potential political conversion by the show’s resident Republican, as Newsday relates in this blog item.

The battle for the hearts and minds of the ladies who preside over ‘The View’ -- and, more important, their audience -- is far from over, however. Michelle Obama, wife of Clinton’s chief rival in the Democratic presidential race, is set to be a guest host on the program in early December, as reported by the New York Post.

One presumes she’s stocking up on the thank-you cards.
