Breaking News: Ron Paul scoops in $5 million!
The fervent supporters of Ron Paul, who seem to swim the internet 24 hours a day, are always complaining about their candidate being ignored. Sometimes they even do it politely.
They'll get back to that tomorrow. But for today they'll have to shut up and revel in a singular achievement--and its growing notice in the media. They contributed more than $5 million to the Texas representative's insurgent campaign in the third quarter. $5,080,000 to be exact. A 114% increase over the second quarter, while some other prominent candidates had lower numbers.
"As these fundraising numbers show," said Kent Snyder, Paul campaign chairman, "more Americans each day are embracing Dr. Paul's message."
For weeks Paul supporters, who huddle on their own chatsites to organize Comment-writing campaigns on widespread websites, have been claiming that the 72-year-old ob-gyn was gaining strength. But all they could point to as evidence were minor straw polls. Now, they've got a not-insignificant pile of money, which serves as votes in the public mind until the actual balloting begins come January.
True, $5 million pales in comparison to the $27 million Hillary Clinton raised this past quarter or the $100 million she and Barack Obama are each expected to raise this year. But Paul's haul isn't far behind the far-more-established John Edwards' $7 million for the third quarter.
And get this: Ron Paul's $5 million is about five times what former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee raised last quarter, despite all his enhanced publicity springing from a second-place finish in the Ames straw poll.
Despite his good reviews--last weekend former president Bill Clinton, also from Hope, Ark. even called Huckabee the best GOP speaker--Huckabee's long-shot campaign like Edwards' may face increasing money difficulty these next three months as the elections near and financial supporters start inching--or flooding--toward the favorites' camps to protect themselves and their interests. For now, the Newsweek poll has the Arkansan statistically tied with Giuliani for third in Iowa.
Huckabee's name, however, continues to be mentioned as a nice Southern/Heartland conservative flavor to add as a vice presidential partner if the top of the GOP ticket is from the Northeast.
Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani's campaign are playing press release chicken with each other today, each holding back their third-quarter numbers for the best timing for them. They're the consistent poll and fundraising leaders with Paul in the low single digits. His supporters claim the polls are biased and under-report Paul people.
But for this afternoon the attention is focused on Paul. Oh, and by the way, his low-budget campaign reported having $5.3 million cash on hand, which may even enable it to buy a TV ad in Iowa and New Hampshire. If they purchase 9,999 more, they'll equal just Romney's TV buys so far.

Internet users are people to! =) I guess placing in the top three 23 times out of 29 times and 1st place 13 out of 29 times in the straw polls just doesn't mean much! What kind of supporters go to the straw polls? Seems to me he is the top candidate that the people want. Or do the debates not matter? He doesn't have the money the top tiers have, yet!
Why do we keep electing the rich? hmm.
The table is tilted, the game is rigged, and nobody seems to notice. Good honest hard working people are behind those computers, searching the net and they are starting to notice. It's been a long time since we've seen an honest politician running for President. Let him be heard!
Thanks Andrew,
Brian

Try $4million in one day!!!! I questioned whether the money and online support would turn into votes but I no longer question this when thousands of Ron Paul supporters individually donated about $4 million in one day. I have to say that unlike previous years in the primaries, the Republicans are actually paying attention early in the game. The percentage of Republicans who actually vote in the primaries is usually significantly low...so if he has this kind of support now, and the supporters are the people the media describes as "nerdy, intense, etc" then they will be ones to turn out at the primaries. By the way, when will the media focus on the candidate rather than his supporter type? Get real, and stop avoiding the real subject: a man who is honest, willing, and unlike any of his running mates.

Today the RP supporters have to complain about misinformation. The grass roots effort for Ron Paul contributed more than 6 million. After reading several articles from the La Times today and after seeing so many inaccuracies I have to conclude that this site is not a reliable news sources.
Posted by: Stephen | December 17, 2007 at 01:24 PM
Not much research here - it was $6 million yesterday not 5 and $18 million so far for the 4th Qtr - likely the top fund raiser among the GOP contenders this quarter.
(I assume you checked the date and saw you're reading an old item.)

6.04 million 1 day,
18 million so far this quarter.

AM is a Washington D.C.insider similar to a lobbyist, in bed with the Establishment. One can easily understand his ignorance of grassroot Tsunami sweeping for Paul

A little confused on your point about $5M this quarter. The news reports everywhere else are stating that Ron Paul raked in $6M in ONE DAY, and he is over $18M for the quarter! If you look at the run-rate of that amount of cash, Paul is on a 1 year run-rate of $74M, so not that far off from Hillary and Obama, and way way ahead of the Republican field.

Let's try $6 Million and that was just the ONE DAY. The total so far for the quarter is almost $18.3 Million. Since Hillary's money comes from other then individual supporters as well, I would say Paul's hual is much more impressive by far! Let's just keep the facts straight when you print something please. Thanks.

While the other candidates build their campaigns on thinly veiled fear & hate Dr. Paul builds his campaign around the ideals of our nation, the shared ideals that unite us.

The total for Sunday's Tea Party was $6.04 million.
(That's right and we did a big item on that on 12/17. Check the date on this old item before complaining.)

Andrew,
Thank you for your continued objective reporting on the Ron Paul campaign. It's a refreshing change. The actual take according to ronpaul2008.com is $6.04 million. I, personally, don't think that Huckabee is in as good a position as portrayed. The spats between he and Mitt Romney aren't serving either of them well. I guess only the primaries will tell. Again thanks for the good reporting.
(Thanks for reading. As the date on this item reveals, this is an old one. The new item on the new fundraising record was published 12/17.)

Ron Paul has raised over $18 million for the quarter. I don't know where you got your information.

Mr. Malcom
I do apologize if any of our supporters seem sarcastic or rude at times. For many of them this is the first time that they have taken an active interest in politics and that interest has turned into a passion for many. We attempt to maintain a thick skin and remember that it not really "personal", still we do take a lot of heat and it is often hard not to rise to the bait of a cheap shot.
Hopefully our success on the 16th will show the party and the media that we are serious about this and we are far from crazy, only time will tell. The only thing that I would ask of you sir is to stop reporting only on his "long shot" success and a bit more on his issues. Thank you for your interest and honest coverage.

from Ron Paul's email about how much they made.
On just one day, in honor of the 234th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, the new American revolutionaries brought in $6.04 million, another one-day record. The average donation was $102; we had 58,407 individual contributors, of whom an astounding 24,915 were first-time donors. And it was an entirely voluntary, self-organized, decentralized, independent effort on the internet.
GO RON!

Holy moly, talk about biased reporting! Read the following line again people:
"True, $5 million pales in comparison to the $27 million Hillary Clinton raised this past quarter or the $100 million she and Barack Obama are each expected to raise this year. "
Comparing a false sum of $5 million, actually it was $6 million, to a sum the democrats are "expected" to get....wow...I mean just WOW. Whoever wrote this article should be fired immediately. Propaganda has NO place in reporting news facts, note the word FACTS. Aalso maybe you should mention that Ron Paul does NOT take corporate donations from people who expect favors later on. Ron Paul money come from individual Americans. Supposed Hillary or Obama tried doing that one time and see what the results would be. Anyone can take money from special interests, but the very fact that they DO take it tells you all you need to know about where that politicians loyalties are.
Take America back from these criminals and warmongers my brothers and sisters. Vote for who you know will be good for America and not for who media neocons tells you to vote for. This is yours and my country, we cannot be sheep any longer.
(Look at the date on this item. You are reading a very old one.)

as a once liberal, then libertarion, i will vote for ron paul before god forbid hillary, or anyone else the republicans throw at me. if it ends up hillary or one of the other silly republicans i will vote whomever is running on the libertarian ticket. no more dynasties, however flawed they are. i wish we had money to donate, but we're poor and fighting the democratic ecological influence that wants to control wetland usage in a constantly wet environment.

I don't understand why you compare ONE DAY of fundraising for Ron Paul to the WHOLE quarter of Hillary Clinton......good try old man. Ron Paul is coming.

Spontaneous Organization Around An Idea That The Constitution Of The United States Actually Means Something.
Why will the main stream media not recognize this fact?
They are reporting on this race as if it is a beauty contest for the selection of who will drive the car; completely dismissing the credentials of substance as to who knows how to drive. If they are allowed to pick the driver, We will look mighty nice as we go over the cliff.
Ron Paul is the only candidate I would trust with my money and my family's safety.
Only fools make decisions based upon others Opinions. Those who do are easily led.
Ron Paul's positions take more than a sound bite to understand. Don't be fooled by the black and white portrayal in the media. (most of the time they get it wrong anyway)
I Vote For Virtue; I Vote For Ron Paul !!!

One of the reasons that Ron Paul supporters 'seem to swim the internet 24 hours a day' is because Dr. Ron Paul has supporters from nearly every timezone around the world. it's really saying something when, people all around the world are taking a keen interest in one candidate and so early in the campaign as well. Internationally People can see that Dr. Ron Paul is potentially the best thing that could happen to America and his foreign policy is looked upon with admiration.
Posted by: James | December 17, 2007 at 06:19 PM
its 6.3 million a WORLD RECORD, a day for the history books.
but the news media still says:
dark horse, misquotes, lies, quotes rigged polls from rasmussen and zogby (even though ron paul flat out won a zogby poll when policies were used instead of names), and they print stories about losers with no real support like Rudy, Romney, McCain, Huckabee.
Ive seen the signs on the lawns, on the highways, and the people dressed up and out on the streets campaigning. They are 100% RON PAUL. These lies cannot be supressed. Ron Paul not only wins on the internet, he is winning on the streets of America.

I have turned off my TV news. I don't believe anything they tell me. I don't buy newspapers anymore. I know the NSA is tapped into every router on AT&T. As Archie Bunker would say: "Whoopty Doo there Edith". In times like these I ask myself "what would Scooby do?" ...Go Ron Paul Go!!!!
Making the establisment look over it's shoulder at what's coming. Priceless.

I find Ron Paul's detractors typically much more crude and rude that Ron Paul's supporters.
Regardless, Dr. Paul is situated in the "top tier" despite the establishment media blackout...

Yes, the Ron Paul nutjobs are at it again...
Isn't it sort of refreshing to see people so fired up about the election, as opposed to the usual apathy?
The older generations have complained for YEARS about the youth of our nation sitting around, vapid and self absorbed, content to sit back and watch the world pass us by.
No longer. It is fighting time.

Folks... Take a look at the date when this article was published: October 03. I don't know why Google News is showing that it was published on 12/17, but it wasn't.
This article is talking about Q3 fundraising numbers, not Tea Party numbers.
(Don't know why either. But there are numerous items on RP since then.)

Andrew-
As several people have pointed out, you reported numerous facts and figures incorrectly.
It is time to retire, you seem to be getting sloppy in your old age.
Maybe if you start doing crossword puzzles you can try to sharpen that old failing mind of yours.
Congrats on almost winning that Pulitzer Mr. Malcolm, not bad for a hack.
Peace.

(Dan, Dan,Dan, Thanks for your kind words. Why are you only reading all this old stuff? Look at the date! Try the several since then esply the one 12/17 on RP setting the fundraising record.)

I wrote you a nasty comment about getting facts and figures wrong. Google has this article listed as published yesterday. So, my mistake I apologize on behalf of all the other confused (and understandbly so) Paul supporters posting comments.
Dan
(It's a Google mystery, but at least it brought you here so you can go to the top and see the newer items on RP including Sunday's amazing feat. Thanks for reading.)

"...huddle on their own chatsites to organize..."
While I can't profess to speak for all people interested in seeing Ron Paul elected president. No one has cajoled me into making comments on articles, as I expect is the case for the other people you depict as conspirators. That considered it may comfort you to know the world really is out to get you...
Why stoop to sensationalist fabrications, if you disagree with Dr. Paul’s positions provide a counter point, if possible aim for substance rather than misguided vitriol.
I ask what is so horrific about a resurgence of the Constitution and a reigning in of federal power?
(Nothing. Hope you get a chance to also read the many other RP items we've written much more recently than this old one (look at the date), including the one on last weekend's fundraising success. Thanks for reading.)
