Breaking news: Brownback to quit GOP race

October 18, 2007 | 12:51 pm

It looks like Fox News can take away one of those nine podiums for the Republican presidential debate in Orlando on Sunday.

The Times' Mark Z. Barabak has confirmed that Kansas conservative Republican Sen. Sam Brownback will quit the GOP presidential race, probably in an announcement tomorrow.  Brownback has consistently lagged in the polls and in fundraising.  And he already said that he'd drop out of the race if he didn't finish at least fourth in the Iowa caucuses.

Mark has the details here now.
