In his own words: Ron Paul
Top of the Ticket is constantly cruising the Web seeking the most interesting and revealing political items and news. From time to time we've decided to publish the entire text of some presidential candidate's statement from his website.
This way, readers can get a feel for the candidate and form their own impressions free of any blog filter.
We start this series today with a statement from Rep. Ron Paul of Texas that we found on his campaign website. Here it is without intermission:
Sept. 20, 2007
Message from Ron Paul
Dear friend,
Our American way of life is under attack. And it is up to us to save it.
The world's elites are busy forming a North American Union. If they succeed, as they did in forming the European Union, the good ol’ USA will only be a memory. We cannot let that happen.
The UN wants to confiscate our firearms and impose a global tax. The UN elites want to control the oceans with the Law of the Sea Treaty. And they want to use our military to police the world.
Our right to own and use property is fading because bureaucrats and special interests are abusing eminent domain.
Our right to educate our children as we choose is under assault. "No Child Left Behind" is seeing to that. And our right to say "no" to forced mental screening of our school-aged children is nearly gone.
The elites gave us a national ID card. They also gave us the most misnamed legislation in history: The Patriot Act. And these same people are pushing to give amnesty to illegal immigrants and erase our national borders.
Record government debt is putting a burden on our children and grandchildren that is shameful.
Yes. Our American way of life is under attack. And it's understandable that many are concerned, even discouraged, about the kind of country our children and grandchildren will inherit.
But we must never let discouragement become surrender.
One reason I am NOT discouraged is because I know I am not fighting alone. Each day ...
I head out I know that you and thousands of other patriotic, freedom-loving Americans are right beside me, standing brave and true for what is good and right.
I need your help now, more than ever, to save the country we love ... for the people we love.
My wife, Carol, and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary early this year. We are proud parents of five children and 18 grandchildren. We love them very much, as I know you love your family.
As a U.S. congressman, I always think about the well-being of my family and of all the families of our great nation when I cast a vote or introduce legislation. I also remember that I have sworn a solemn oath to uphold and protect the Constitution of the United States.
For me, upholding that oath is the first and best way to preserve and protect the blessed American way of life for our children and grandchildren.
And now you know why I'm running for president of the United States.
I ask for your help. Please send your maximum donation today by going to https://www.ronpaul2008.com/donate/.
Sincerely,

Under attack?
The world's elites?
Fear-mongering and paranoia?
Ron Paul must be a Republican.

Ron Paul is an honorable man. He is a man of great character and principle. His voting record is 100% constitutional. No other politician can make that claim. The mainstream Republicans and Democrats are drinking out of the same glass behind the curtain. Ron Paul is a beacon of light in these precarious times. I switched my party to Republican to vote for him.

I changed my party to Republican (ouch!) too so that I could vote for Dr. Ron Paul in the primaries. He is our last chance. Although I am not rich, I donated the maximum of $2300 to his campaign. I only wish we were allowed to send more. I am simultaneously applying for citizenship in other English-speaking countries, in case he doesn't win. DR. PRESIDENT RON PAUL 2009-2016!!!

Ron Paul has given me hope and made me interested in Politics.
I am still a Democrat, but I am in Oregon, and our state doesn't really matter in the republican primaries or race, really. Oregon always votes blue.
But I think Dr. Paul can upset that

Good on the LA Times, they seem to have the basic principles of "free press" under grasps. Thank you for giving each candidate his fair share. Andrew Malcom seems to be an unbiased writer, and I respect him for that. He is one of the only people showing RP any love, and he does so because he looks at the facts and evidence of his character more than what "the other guys" think about him. I know you come under attack from ardent RP supporters when you criticize him (which you are entitled to do), but I am glad to see that you can differentiate between RP and his supporters, who are sometimes over zealous in their efforts (even they mean well : ). Thanks again to LA Times and Andrew Malcom.

IF U DUMMIIES EXCEPT SECURITY INSTEAD OF FREEDOM U DESERVE NEITHER,AND WECOME IN THE GESTAPO.

I was a life time Democrate, just for how the Democrates have been the last 10+ years should be reason enough to change parties. Here in TN it doesn't matter which party you belong to, you can vote to whom ever you wish, if not I WOULD BE A REPUBLICAN in order to stand along side DR Ron Paul.
RON PAUL FOR PRESIDENT 2008 our last hope.

Imagine that, a presidential candidate with the cojones to speak out about our civil liberties and the constitution. The founding document has governed this country for over 200 freedom-blessed years. He is the most pure libertarian voice in the presidential field, it's a shame we have a 2 party system.

I've made an oath to myself. I will be a Republican until we get conquered by corporations. A Ron Paul Republican to be exact. One who believes in small government and individual responsibility ie: no income tax or federal reserve. This will be the only way we triumph over those who would seek to subvert the constitution and install a form of soft-fascism like what we have today. The neocons will be kicked out of the GOP. America is better off without them.

IF YOUR AS TIRED OF PICKING THE LESSER OF TWO EVIL'S AS I AM, THEN REFUSE TO PICK EVIL.
RESEARCH RON PAUL... ATLEAST HE APPEARS TO ANSWER QUESTIONS WHEN ASK and it doesn't matter which way the WIND IS BLOWING, IS IT CONSTUTIONAL, IS THAT THE JOB OF THE GOVERNMENT? "IF NOT" HE VOTES NO. IT SURE FUNNY HOW FOR MOST OF MY LIFE THE PRESS HAS ACTED LIKE IF YOU CANT RAISE ENOUGH MONEY TO RUN THAN YOUR NOT A REAL CANIDATE BUT WHEN RON PAUL RAISES MORE MONEY IN ONE DAY THAN ANYONE ELSE REP OR DEM HE IS STILL NOT TAKEN SERIOUSLY??? JUST TELL US WHAT HE HAS TO DO TO GET FAIR TREATMENT, NOT SPECIAL TREATMENT JUST FAIR TREATMENT. THANK YOU AND GOOD NIGHT.
example below
DEAR TIMES I THANK YOU FOR POSTING RON PAULS POSITION BUT YOU SHOW ALITTLE BIAS WHEN YOU START THE ARTICLE WITH LINES LIKE:
Well, he's hanging in there. Not only that, but Rep. Ron Paul thumped two reputed Republican heavyweights in the Michigan primary -- former Sen. Fred Thompson of Tennessee and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
It implies he is not electable or you cant believe he is even hanging in there, a true free press would let they public decide with out slipping crud like that in i expect better from the Times, just the facts PLEASE.... get on the Ron Paul Constittutional TRAIN or be LEFT BEHIND.
He raised more money than McCAIN THOMPSON RUDY HUCKABEE ROMNEY HILLARY EDWARDS OBAMA....WHATS A GUY GOTTA DO? TO GET RESPECT

I find that the sheep of the nation are the one's that put Dr.Paul down and can't believe the truth . Do not see both parties the Dem's and gop have wrecked this nation . If you can't see it you are not an America. You are a selfserving blind fool . Fools are what both parties carter to . They do not care bout you nor your children . The writing on the wall couldn't be clearer if it were in neon lights . Ron Paul they hate , for one they can't find any dirt to blackmail him with . He's Honorable to a fault in that he believes in the Constitution of the USA . Ready for a land full of Illegals and low wages ? I bet you fools are . Just keep voting for McAmnesty , Billary or obama . All 3 are puppets for the New World Order .
