Alyssa Blanco from Garfield has been named the Eastern League MVP in softball. The pitcher of the year is Courtney Granados of Garfield.
First-team all-league: Karla Bernal, Garfield; Melissa Carillo, Garfield; Brittany Orozco, Garfield; Griselda Vasquez, Bell; Adelyn Garcia, Bell; Sujey Zamudio, Bell; Cassandra Sarabia, Roosevelt; Samanatha Contreras, Roosevelt; Stephanie Perales, South Gate; Angelica Musick, South Gate; Sonia Vasquez, South East; Gaby Arizaga, Huntington Park.

Sophomore pitcher Rachel Garcia from Palmdale Highland has been selected the Gatorade state player of the year in high school softball.
Garcia, who has a 3.8 grade-point average and is committed to UCLA, was 22-2 with an 0.50 ERA. She had four no-hitters and 14 shutouts.
She struck out 302 batters in 139 innings.

Jim Maier, who guided St. Paul to a Southern Section Division 1 softball championship in 1988, is returning for a second stint as coach. He has been head coach at Cal State Dominguez Hills for 13 years.
At St. Paul, he led the Swordsmen to 14 consecutive playoff appearances and a 300-78 record.

Carson is back on top in City Section Division I softball after a 7-1 victory over Granada Hills Kennedy in the championship game on Saturday at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Ramie Barajas pitched the Colts to victory. Viri Ramos had a two-run single.
In the Division II final, Venice defeated Arleta, 9-1.
In the small schools final, Port of Los Angeles defeated Northridge, 16-3.
