Football Long Beach Poly wins 24-7

November 20, 2009 |  9:17 pm

With Long Beach Poly's 24-7 victory over Los Alamitos in its Pac-5 first-round playoff game, the Jackrabbits will face the winner between Servite and San Clemente next Friday.

Football: Long Beach Poly takes 16-7 lead

November 20, 2009 |  8:39 pm

Long Beach Poly's Kaelin Clay has been the story of the night.

His 14-yard touchdown run with 2:23 left in the third quarter gave the Jackrabbits a 16-7 lead following Hayden Hunt's extra point.

Clay currently has 17 carries for 154 yards with two touchdowns.

Football: Long Beach Poly with 9-7 lead at halftime

November 20, 2009 |  8:07 pm

It's fair to say there are a number of plays both Los Alamitos and Long Beach Poly would like to have back in the waning minutes of the first half.

On fourth-and-14 on its 21-yard line, the punt from Los Alamitos kicker Dan Boyer was blocked by Long Beach Poly defensive back Ryan Goforth. The ball rolled deep into the Griffins' backfield, but Goforth had trouble picking up the ball. Instead of the Jackrabbits picking it up for a touchdown, they got a safety after the football rolled into the end zone. Long Beach Poly led 9-7 with 1:23 remaining.

On the ensuing kickoff, Jackrabbits Michael Teo fumbled the ball, but recovered it at Los Alamitos' 43-yard line. One play later, Long Beach Poly quarterback Chris Leachman was intercepted by Los Alamitos defensive back Josh Barut.

Football: Los Alamitos' lost opportunity

November 20, 2009 |  7:47 pm

Los Alamitos was in prime position to score. But the Long Beach Poly defense buckled down.

On second-and-three at the Jackrabbits' nine-yard line, Griffins tailback Nick Richardson fumbled at the seven-yard line and Long Beach Poly lineman Ryan Edwards recovered the football with 4:42 remaining in the second quarter.

The score remains tied at 7-7.

Football: Los Alamitos & Long Beach Poly tied up after first quarter

November 20, 2009 |  7:34 pm

We're in for an exciting game at Long Beach Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Long Beach Poly was able to tie it up at 7-7 after Kaelin Clay ran in for a nine-yard touchdown run and Hayden Hunt kicked the extra point with 1:12 remaining.

Football: Los Alamitos on top late in the first quarter

November 20, 2009 |  7:25 pm

In a game that has featured four three-and-outs and a Long Beach Poly fumble, there's no question that the interception from Los Alamitos defensive back Haven Fielding was game-changing.

With the Jackrabbits facing third-and-six on their own 49-yard line, Fielding intercepted Chris Leachman's pass at the Griffins' 42-yard line and marched down the field before being tackled at the one-yard line.

Three plays later, Los Alamitos quarterback Dylan Lagarde connected with Mike Collins, who made a one-handed touchdown catch. Dan Boyer's extra point gave the Griffins a 7-0 lead with 4:09 remaining in the first quarter.
