Boys' basketball: Riverside King gets No. 1 seeding

March 8, 2009 |  3:44 pm

Bolstered by its upset victory over unbeaten Santa Ana Mater Dei on Saturday night, Riverside King has been seeded No. 1 for the 16-team Division I Southern California Regional playoffs that begin on Monday. Westchester is seeded No. 2, Mater Dei No. 3 and Woodland Hills Taft No. 4.

The second round could produce games that look like they should be for a championship. If all goes as expected in the first round, Tuesday's quarterfinals could match Mater Dei and Fairfax, Taft and Dominguez, Westchester and Etiwanda.

Thursday's semifinals could be Taft at King and Mater Dei at Westchester.

King opens at home against Reseda Cleveland. Taft is home against Ventura. Mater Dei is home against Chino Hills. Westchester is home against Fresno Central. Fairfax is on the road against Fresno Edison.
