Long Beach Poly’s girls 4 x 100 relay team got the CIF state meet off to a blazing start by winning in a national-leading 44.93 seconds, breaking its own previous best by one hundredth of a second.

The Jackrabbits’ foursome, consisting of Jade Lewis, Maya Perkins, Diamond Thomas and Ariana Washington, clocked the third fastest time in state meet history despite sweltering conditions. St. Bernard set the state finals record of 44.70 in 1997.
