MLB Draft 2013: Ryan McMahon is second-round pick of the Rockies

Third baseman Ryan McMahon of Santa Ana Mater Dei learned that all of his hard work has paid off, because the Colorado Rockies took him in the second round of Thursday’s draft at No. 42.

He batted .405 with 32 RBIs for a team that was ranked No. 1 in Southern California for much of the 2013 season. He’s a former quarterback who signed with USC.

Former Orange Lutheran pitcher Andrew Thurman was the first pick of the Astros in the second round. He has been a standout at UC Irvine.

Former Fullerton pitcher Michael Lorenzen, a standout at Cal State Fullerton, was chosen No. 38 by the Reds.

Former Harvard-Westlake outfielder Austin Wilson of Stanford went No. 49 to the Mariners. Dana Hills pitcher Blake Taylor was selected No. 51 by the Pirates.

Corona Santiago catcher Chance Sisco was chosen No. 61 by the Orioles. Gahr third baseman Kevin Franklin went No. 67 to the Reds.
