There was a time when Newhall Hart set the standard in summer passing tournaments, producing one All-CIF quarterback after another while developing top receivers.

The Indians are well on their way back to promience. Behind junior quarterback Brady White and four returning receivers, Hart could be the team to watch this summer. The Indians have already won two seven-on-seven tournaments, including Saturday at Pierce College. They defeated Thousand Oaks in the final and defeated Alemany in the semifinals.

Junior receiver Trent Irwin is close to unstoppable in seven on seven action. Connor Wingenroth was a standout on defense. Hart should learn more about its ability next Saturday, when the Indians play in the Dana Hills tournament.

Another school off to a productive summer start is Santa Margarita, which defeated Bishop Amat to win the championship of the Claremont tournament on Saturday. The Eagles also knocked off highly regarded Upland. Quarterback K.J. Costello led the way, and junior defensive back Ricky Ellison made a key interception.

Santa Margarita will join Hart in the Dana Hills tournament on Saturday.
