Boys’ basketball: Max Hoetzel makes German national team

Max Hoetzel, a 6-foot-8 senior at Calabasas, spent more than two weeks in Germany trying to make the 18U national basketball team. He returned on Monday and said he made the team that will play next month in the European championships.

But he has decided not to return because he believes playing travel ball will be more important to landing a college scholarship this summer.
