Ariana Washington broke fast and led from start to finish to post the fastest qualifying time in the girls 200 meters at the state prelims in Clovis. Washington clocked 23.39 after running in the 4 x 100 relay and 100 meters earlier in the day.

Defending state champion Khalfani Muhammad of Notre Dame was the fastest male qualifier in the 200 in 20.94. He, too, ran in the 4 x 100 relay and 100 meters earlier and is the heavy favorite to repeat as 100 and 200 champion.
