There was talent throughout the lineup, and Gardena Serra (28-5) celebrated at Dodger Stadium on Friday, winning its first baseball championship with an 8-1 victory over Mira Costa in the Southern Section Division 3 final.

Dominic Smith was dominant on the mound, throwing a three-hitter for 6 1/3 innings with nine strikeouts. Solomon Bates came on in the seventh to get a game-ending double play.

Marcus Wilson hit a home run off the foul pole in left field and added a two-run double. Trent Hammond had an RBI single and a two-run single. Denz'l Chapman stole home.

Austin Henning had two hits for Mira Costa (24-12).

It was the fourth sports title this season for Serra, which also won Southern Section titles in football, boys' track and boys' basketball.
