When it comes to clutch putting, sophomore Jisup Hwang of Van Nuys put on a clinic on how to handle pressure on Monday at the City Section golf championships at Wilson Golf Course in Griffith Park.

He made birdie putts on the last three holes, including putts of 25 feet on No. 16 and 22 feet on No. 17, to win the individual championship with a one-under 71. His three-foot birdie putt on No. 18 proved to be the winning stroke.

‘It’s pretty exciting,’ he said.

Palisades, under Coach James Paleno, won the team title with a score of 388. Granada Hills was second at 410.

One shot behind Hwang at 72 were Marc Reyes of Venice and Justin Chong of VAAS. Kornelijus Baliukonis helped Palisades win the team title shooting a 73.

What a day it was for golf. There were four deer hanging out next to the 18th fairway. Wilson is the home course for Hwang, who qualifies for next Thursday’s SGA regional championships at Brookside Golf Course.
