City semifinals: Cleveland is headed to Dodger Stadium [Video]

May 29, 2013 |  5:00 pm

With a little assist from its MVP, Jack Hartman, Reseda Cleveland earned a trip to Saturday's 1 p.m. City Section Division I championship game at Dodger Stadium after defeating Marshall, 3-1, on Wednesday at USC.

Steven Perez pitched the first five innings, enabling Cleveland to take a 2-1 lead. Hartman, who threw a no-hitter in the quarterfinals, was brought in to pitch in the sixth. After a strikeout, Marshall loaded the bases on two hit batters and catcher's interference. Hartman then struck out the next two batters to escape.

In the bottom of the sixth, Hartman hit a home run to right field off the scoreboard for a 3-1 advantage. Marshall's Angel Lerma had retired nine consecutive batters until the home run.

"He comes up big every time," Cleveland Coach Greg Venger said of Hartman, who's 12-1 on the season with one save.

Cleveland (24-10), seeded No. 2 in the tournament, will play the winner of San Fernando-Banning.

"I'm ready to pitch my heart out in my last high school game," Hartman said.
