Baseball: Ryan Alsworth throws one-hitter for Servite

It was the battle of standout junior pitchers on Tuesday in the Trinity League, with UCLA-bound Griffin Canning of Santa Margarita taking on underrated Ryan Alsworth of Servite. Alsworth threw a one-hitter and allowed just a single baserunner in Servite’s 1-0 victory that pulled the Friars into a tie for third place with the Eagles.

Mater Dei rallied for two runs in the seventh to defeat JSerra, 6-5. Freshman Josh Stephen drove in the go-ahead run. Travis Blue had two hits in Orange Lutheran’s 3-2 win over St. John Bosco.

In another pitcher’s duel in the Sea View League, Kenji Teshima threw six shutout innings and Anthony Sommer got the save as Aliso Niguel defeated San Clemente, 1-0. Cody Maples suffered the loss. Both schools are now tied for first place with 8-3 records.

Sophomore Joey Chapman of Yucaipa retired all 21 batters in a 7-0 victory over Fontana Miller. Here’s the report from the Riverside Press-Enterprise.

In the Channel League, Dos Pueblos clinched the championship with an 8-2 win over Santa Barbara. Gabe Speier struck out seven in six innings. James Savage had three hits.

In the Mission League, Kevin Lewallyn put on hold any championship celebration by Loyola with a complete game in Chaminade’s 3-1 win over the Cubs. Loyola needs a win on Thursday at home to clinch the title outright. Nick Suniga threw the shutout in Alemany’s 1-0 win over Notre Dame. Suniga and Ryan Alvarez each had two hits.

In the Foothill League, JD Busfield threw a two-hitter in Valencia’s 4-0 victory over Canyon. Kyle Sanchez had three RBIs. Chris McCready had a home run. West Ranch defeated Saugus, 11-4. Tyler Woldanski had three RBIs. Hart defeated Golden Valley, 3-1. Chad Haslock threw a two-hitter and Baggie Saldivar had three hits, including a home run.

San Dimas won the Valle Vista League championship with a 3-2 win over Northview.

Tyler Carvalho extended his scoreless innings streak to 34 innings by throwing his second no-hitter of the season in Paraclete’s 2-0 Alpha League win over Viewpoint. He struck out 11.

In the Empire League, William Van Dam had the game-winning RBI single in the seventh to give Valencia a 4-3 win over Cypress.

In the Southwestern League, Tyler Russell struck out 11 in Vista Murrieta’s 2-1 win over Chaparral.

In the Pacific League, Crescenta Valley defeated Glendale, 8-0. Nolan Rea had three hits and three RBIs. Burbank defeated Muir, 12-0. Burroughs defeated Hoover, 13-0. In the Frontier, Malibu (23-3, 13-1) defeated Carpinteria, 7-5. Austin George had two RBIs.

In the Tri-Valley League, Oaks Christian defeated Grace Brethren, 7-0. Chris Davis had a triple and home run. Brandon Evans added two hits and three RBIs.

Anthony Seminaris had three hits and nine RBIs, including a grand slam, in Ayla’s 16-2 win over Claremont.

Ian Bernstein and Jarret Weiss each hit home runs and Kevin DeCorso threw the shutout in Buckley’s 5-0 win over New Community Jewish. Sierra Canyon defeated Milken, 10-0, in five innings. Brian Tucker had three RBIs.
