It always causes people to look twice when San Fernando’s Roberto Ramos steps to the plate. He’s one of the few players who uses a wood bat.

Ramos, a transfer from Birmingham, has hit 11 home runs this season for the Tigers, who play Banning in Wednesday’s 6 p.m. City Section Division I semifinal at USC.

He’s 6 feet 3, 230 pounds and is expected to be taken in next month’s amateur draft. Scouts love that he uses a wood bat.
