Baseball: Poly gets No. 1 spot in East Valley League

Sun Valley Poly claimed the co-championship in the East Valley League and the No. 1 spot from the league for the City Section Division I playoffs after a 3-2 victory over Monroe on Friday. Josue Moreno had the game-winning RBI.

Arleta helped its playoff chances by gaining third place in the East Valley with a 1-0 victory over North Hollywood. Chris Garcia drove in the winning run and also threw six scoreless innings. Verdugo Hills will be the No. 2 team.

San Fernando finished 29-3 after a 6-1 win over South Gate. Armando Esparza struck out seven and threw a complete game. Roberto Ramos went three for four with a home run.

Sam Stavang threw his second no-hitter of the season in Bonita’s 1-0 victory over Diamond Bar. He has a consecutive innings streak of 20 1/3 innings without allowing a hit. Jake Blunt drove in the game’s only run in the sixth inning. Bonita is 25-3 and 12-0 in the Hacienda League.

In the South Coast League, Capistrano Valley defeated Tesoro, 7-4. Aldo Koutsyanopulos had a three-run home run.

In the Century League, Esperanza defeated Brea Olinda, 7-4. Griffin Barnes had three hits.

In the Baseline League, Los Osos defeated Glendora, 4-3. Upland defeated Etiwanda, 4-3.

In the Southwestern League, Ryan Lillie had two hits and two RBIs in Vista Murrieta’s 6-0 win over Chaparral. Joven Afenir struck out five and walked one in a complete-game performance.

Ryan Kayoda struck out 10 as El Toro defeated San Clemente, 7-0.

Windward won the Delphic League title with a 6-1 win over Downey Calvary Chapel.

Ross Esse went four for four with three RBIs in Buckley’s 16-2 win over Pacifica Christian.
